Labor of Love

I love pumpkin and decided to cook a pumpkin. That is where the labor came in,as I did not realize what was in store for me. I cut up the pumpkin into pieces and scraped out all the seeds and gunk. Then I cooked the pieces in a pot of boiling water. That took a while as the pumpkin was quite big. After that I peeled away the skin and pureed the pumpkin. I then made some of the pumpkin puree into a wonderful soup in which I put cheese and toasted walnuts on top. I also toasted the walnuts. The rest of the puree went in bags to be frozen for pies. After about 3 hours I had 4 bags of pumpkin puree for pies and 4 bags of soup for one.

I also had a messy kitchen that I had to clean.

Next time I will buy the can pumpkin. Some things are not worth the work.

You know, I found pie pumpkins for 3 cents a pound, and cooked it in my slow cooker. I highly recommend that method. It was VERY easy to puree, and much cheaper than the canned products. If I can find a deal like that, I'd do it again and freeze my puree!
