Spring is here and so are the weeds. I hate weeds in my yard and I hate pulling them. I also have seasonal allergies to all the weeds. I also do not like using chemical weed killer sprays as they have harmful effects on the environment. I have found a natural weed killer that not only kills the weeds but is easy to make. The best part is the 3 ingredients that you need are not expensive.  The total cost to make this weed killer is under $3.00 and it makes a whole gallon. The three items that you need are vinegar, dish soap, and salt.  This weed spray is safe to spray around kids and pets. You also do not have to worry about breathing harmful toxins. It is the best DIY homemade safe weed spray that will not harm the water supply. If you are looking for an eco-friendly weed spray this natural weed spray is the best.

Three-ingredient weed spray!

Homemade Weed Killer
1-gallon vinegar
1/4 cup dish soap
2 cups regular table salt
 any other comparable size container
a spray bottle

Using a funnel pour the salt into the empty container and then add the vinegar, leaving a little room at the top for the dish soap. Place the lid on the container and shake the vinegar and salt together. I recommend letting this mixture sit for an hour to allow the salt to dissolve before adding the dish soap. After you add the dish soap put the lid on the container and shake it. Then pour the mixture into a spray bottle. Then spray the weeds with the mixture. Bigger weeds may need more spray than the smaller ones. It can take 24 hours for the weeds to die. Don't spray plants you want to keep or grass as it will kill both. This spray needs the sun to work so spray on a sunny day.

Tip: For more powerful weed killers, mix 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts Epsom salt with liquid dish soap like Dawn. When applied when the weather is hot and sunny, vinegar Epsom salt weed killer is highly effective.

Spray directly on the weeds in the morning - let them sit all day & overnight!

Works best with the full sun!

Here are the weeds before I sprayed them. I live in New Mexico and we landscape with rocks. I have rocks instead of grass as we live in the desert so not much rain here to grow grass. The spray works best with the sun so spray the weeds on a sunny day. I like to use a big reusable weed sprayer to mix up the weed killer. I really like this garden and lawn sprayer

Needs only a day to see results!

This is what the weeds looked like after 24 hours. I like to use this weed spray on small weeds that are a pain to pull. For the larger ones I just pull them. This weed spray is also great for weeds that grow along the sidewalk as those are so hard to pull out.

Do you have persistent weeds?
The weeds here in the desert can be tough to fight even with this natural weed killer. Some people think that the harsh chemical weed sprays can perform better on their weed problem but in reality, the weeds come back every year no matter which type of weed killer spray you use. I have seen the city spray the weeds along the roads with those toxic chemical sprays and the weeds still grow back because the toxic weed sprays only kill the part of the weed that is showing. This natural weed spray works in the same way but there are no worries of toxic chemicals in your yard or water supply. When you use a natural non-toxic weed killer you don't have to worry about cancer-causing chemicals.

Spray and pull the weeds

The best way to fight the weeds without harsh chemicals is to spray them with this homemade weed killer spray and to pull them. My yearly plan that I do to combat those nasty weeds is to spend one morning spraying the weeds right before summer, usually Memorial Day weekend. I also pull the big weeds. Then my yard looks nice for the summer. I also decided to try something new last year in my yard for a section of weeds that kept coming back year after year. I laid down thick black plastic over the stubborn weeds and left it there for several months. I was surprised that the black plastic killed the weeds permanently. 13. I live in NM. I have binding weed...the killer weed. I just sprayed all of the little weeds I could find. Thanks for the recipe. We have 4 pets...do not like weed killer as they dig around in the yard. I have enough to repeat. Rock yards are the hardest yards to keep clear of weeds. The general population of NM people don't seem to mind mile high weeds. I do. I'm not from here. thanks.
