My boys are so excited to see the new Smurf movie! They love those little blue guys and keep asking me when Smurfs The Lost Village will be in the theaters. This fully animated movie won't be in theaters until April 7th so they have a while to wait. In the mean time, I decided to make some Smurf Blue homemade soft playdough to keep them busy on these cold windy days that we have been having. I love that I had all the ingredients to make this super soft, great smelling playdough, so I did not have to run to the store. It was so easy to make also as it only required three kid-safe ingredients. While the boys and I were mixing up the playdough, we talked about who are favorite blue Smurf character was. My 10-year-old like Brainy the best and the 8-year-old liked Clumsy. I liked SmurfBlossom as she is “spunky” with a candy-sweet, bubbly personality. My boys were surprised to know that Smurfs were on TV when I was a kid.
This playdough kept my boys busy for quite some time. They loved how easy it was to roll and shape. The boys got out cookie cutters and made me some "cookies" too. I too enjoyed playing with the playdough as it smelled so good. I used coconut conditioner but next time I need to make the next batch with vanilla or lavender conditioner. I made my playdough Smurf Blue but you can make yours any color with food dye. I wonder how this playdough would smell if I used an unsweetened drink mix package like Koolaid? Next time I teach the toddlers at church, I think I will make some of this soft playdough for them.
So are you excited to see Smurfs The Lost Village?

Smurf Blue Soft Playdough
21/2 cups cornstarch
1 cup hair conditioner
20- 40 drops blue food dye
Place the cornstarch, conditioner, and food dye in a bowl and stir well. Add more cornstarch as needed to get the dough the texture like playdough. Then put on some plastic gloves so you don't end up with blue hands. Take the playdough and place on a plate. The knead more food dye and cornstarch into the playdough until you get the desired color and texture. Store the dough in a tightly lidded container so it does not dry out. If it does dry out just work some more conditioner into until it is soft again.
