CSB Jesus Daily Bible Is The Better Way To Read The Bible In a Year Giveaway

 Many times in my life I have been challenged to read the whole bible in a year. I think I decided to follow the bible in a year challenge once. The sad reality is I never completed my goal of reading the whole bible in a year as it was a difficult challenge.

 If you have ever done the bible in a year reading challenge, you may understand my frustrations of not being able to accomplish this goal. One of the reasons that I could not complete this challenge was the content that I was reading for the day was boring or hard to comprehend. One example is when a chapter has many pages listing the long lineage of people. While I understand that the bible is filled with important things, not everything is exciting or can be applied to my life.

When it comes to reading the bible, I am not one who reads the book from front to back. I feel like this type of reading is hard for me to apply to my life. I need additional items like stories and interpretations to help me read the bible. I like to do my daily bible reading with a devotional website like Our Daily Bread as their daily devotion helps me to better understand bible scriptures.

I recently decided that I needed to purchase a new bible and the CSB Jesus Daily Bible was one that I liked. This bible had many features like helpful articles and infographics to help me better understand what I was reading. Reasons why I like the CSB Jesus Daily Bible 

 I have owned my bible for many years and it was starting to fall apart. So I decided to treat myself to a new bible. While researching Bibles, I wanted one that would help me do better with my daily bible reading. I wanted a bible with additional resources and the CSB Jesus Daily Bible got my attention. 

 I liked that this bible had additional pages with guides and graphics that gave insight into what I was reading. I also liked this bible was translated with the Christian Standard Bible® (CSB). This translation is easier to understand and makes it easier to engage with the Scripture’s message. The weekly introductions also helped me learn more about what I was reading.

 I have been a believer for many years. I chose to follow Christ when I was attending college. It was then that I accepted the gift of salvation and realized that I needed Him. I needed Jesus to come into my life and heal me from my life of destruction. 

When I gave my life to Christ, it was many years after my brother had been killed. I was going through major depression and felt that I had no reason to live. After many years of medication and therapy that did not work, I was at the point of wanting to die but I also wanted to live. It was the love of Jesus, that I received from Christians, that helped me make a choice to live and realize that I could not be healed of my sickness on my own. From that day, I became a believer!

To move beyond being a believer to becoming His disciple

 As a believer in Christ, I have a relationship with Jesus. I attend church, I pray, I read the bible, and I fellowship with other believers. I look to Jesus to help me live my life. My relationship with Jesus is like that of a child and a father. I look to Jesus for guidance, wisdom, healing, love, joy, and so much more but I never thought of myself as a disciple.

 Then I received a copy of the book I Surrender All by Priscilla Shirer and I was challenged to move beyond being a believer of Jesus to becoming His disciple. I never really thought of myself as a disciple. The Bible teaches us that the 12 disciples of Jesus. These men were selected by Jesus so I felt was not able to have this role. 

Then Priscilla helped me realize that I was qualified to become a disciple but I had to make that choice. I also learned through reading the overview of her book that discipleship comes at a high cost. Just like I accepted Jesus to be my savior, I needed to make a choice to lay down my life and follow His. This sounded like a hard thing to do.

Making the choice to become a disciple was not an easy one

The first step to learning about becoming a disciple of Christ was to make a choice to read I Surrender All and that was not an easy one for me. I don't find joy in reading books, so making the choice to read the book was the first step in my surrender. I had to make the decision to read the book. 

 I picked up the book and read a couple pages of the first chapter. I like the beginning of the chapter as Priscilla uses a life story to help me relate to what the chapter was about. The rest of the chapter discusses some reasons why we might be afraid to surrender everything to Jesus and what discipleship is. Then came the part that was hard for me, looking up bible verses and answering questions.

This made me realize the high cost of following the route of becoming a disciple of Christ and I knew that I was not ready. So I made the choice to start praying about this and let God lead me to where I need to be.
