My Boys Hiking Adventure In The Petroglyph National Forest

My two youngest boys are Cub Scouts. They get to do all sorts of fun things with the Cub Scouts like hiking and camping. The other day the scouts decided to take a hike in the Petroglyph National Forest. The Petroglyphs are these cool formations that were made from volcanos a long time. About 400 -700 years ago the Native Americans and Spanish Settlers of New Mexico carved pictures into theses volcanic formations. This place is a wonderful place near my house for hiking. When my boys go hiking they go prepared and bring with items to help them be safe.

My boys need something to carry all the items they need for hiking and a multi-functional backpack from the Terra Kids line by Haba was perfect. This durable waterproof backpack has comfy padded adjustable straps which make it easy to carry.  The padded back incorporates an ergonomically shaped ventilation system too. The front of the backpack has a reflective strips for safety.

I love that this company thought of a all kinds of pockets and storage so my boys can pack everything they need. There is a pocket to  store a map in and and ones that can be expanded depending on what items my boys need to bring. This backpack helps my boys to be organized as all the different compartments and pockets make it easy to find what they need.

The main pocket of this backpack has a waterproof drawstring bag in it that is great for wet clothes. While the bottom of the bag makes a great place to stash larger items. The two little pouches on the side are great for snacks and other small items. There is even a carabiner clip on the bag so my boys can clip on a water bottle as water is a must on hikes here in the desert. On the way bottom of the backpack there is a waterproof rain cover that easily covers the entire bag. Then there is many clips and cloth hooks around the bag so my boys can hang other items they need for their hike. My boys had a blast filling the many pockets up, or as my son said "there are million pockets!" This multi-functional backpack will also be great for camping trips, school and vacations. My boys will be taking the bag with them when we travel by plane to San Diego next month. The backpack will be great for stashing items in it to keep them busy on the plane.

Here is the link to the backpack so you can check it out! Check out all the great features of it.

Since my boys might be hiking in the nighttime, I wanted them to be prepared with a lantern in case they did not get back before dark. When my boys left for there hike it was still light out and the plan was to get back before it got dark. Well, because it is almost the end of summer it gets dark earlier. My boys packed this cool lantern in their backpack that is also from the Terra Kids adventure line. The thing that makes this lantern cool is the fact that it is powered by a generator and does not require batteries. The generator is powered by a hank crank that my boys love using. This lantern will shine for a hour with just three minutes of hand cranking. You can turn the lantern on or off with a push of a button so you can crank the lantern ahead of time and it will shine when you need it. This lantern is made from plastic so it is kid safe. My son also discovered that the lantern has a compass and a whistle along with a carabiner clip that makes it easy to clip on the backpack. This lantern will be awesome for my boys next camping trip. They can crank it before going to bed and then have it for nighttime trips to the bathroom. I am loving that I don't have to keep buying batteries for this lantern.

The hand crank tucks into the bottom of the lantern when not in use. There is also a padded carry handle. This cool hand cracked generator lantern will be great for all my boys nighttime adventures.
