How To Brew A Perfect Cup Of Tea

I just love using these tea infusers when making a perfect cup of tea.

One would think making a cup of tea is simple, but if you don't follow directions you tea may be too strong or too weak. Most people use tea bags when brewing a cup of tea, but using tea leaves and a premium infuser takes your cup of tea to a whole new level. I find that my cup of tea just tastes so much better when I use my tea infuser. I can add the perfect amount of tea leaves and I avoid the dissolved paper in my tea cup. Those tea bags may make things easier, but I hate when the string falls into my tea up. I just hate fishing out that paper and staple from my cup.

        Did you know that the temperature of the water also affects the taste of your tea?

White and green leaves are delicate and too high of a temperature will ruin the flavor, so brew between 170 and 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Oolong teas should be brewed at temperatures between 180 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Black and Herbal teas brew best at a full boil temperatures 208 and 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

     How long should tea brew?

 A tea bag should brew for two to three minutes while loose tea leaves should brew for up to seven minutes. The larger the leaf, the longer the brewing time. A large leaf tea like Earl Grey may need five minutes while a smaller leaf only needs about four minutes. It is best to read the directions that came with the tea as brewing the tea too long leads to bitter tea.

Tea loves oxygen-it helps the flavor develop, so always use cold water in the tea kettle before heating. Tea also absorbs moisture and smells so keep tea in a sealed jar or tin. One teaspoon of loose tea per cup makes for a nice flavor, add more to make it the strength that you like. Some people say sugar masks the flavor of tea, but I prefer the sweetness in my tea. It is just a personal preference.
