 I don't know why men like to fight and have battles with each other. Maybe it is the feeling of winning or showing others how tough they are. Fight competitions are nothing new, they have been around for thousands of years. The movie The Carpenter may showcase professional fighting but it is so much more. 

The Carpenter is a gospel story that takes place in 29 AD. It begins with a young man named Oren competing in a battle with a crowd of wagering spectators. His brother Levi is among the crowd of people. When Oren wins the battle, a Roman sentry suggests he should fight professionally in Nazareth. The two brothers are excited to return home to share the news with their father. 

 Unfortunately, when they get home, they find out their father has accidentally fallen off the roof. Their father's injuries were fatal and on his deathbed, his last words to his sons were to take their mother to Nazareth. to be near their uncle Sharar. Upon learning that their uncle runs the Nazareth Fighting Pit, Oren believes that his relocation will be about becoming a champion. Instead, a benevolent Carpenter from Nazareth teaches Oren that life is more than fighting.

About The Carpenter 

 An adopted Viking orphan becomes a carpenter’s apprentice to Jesus. The orphan, Oren, fights as a side hustle. His experience training as a carpenter with Jesus as his mentor changes his lifestyle.

The film “The Carpenter” expects to turn heads when it releases in select theaters nationwide on Nov. 1, as the story of a champion fighter whose life is impacted when he is befriended by a benevolent Carpenter from Nazareth.

A touching account of how Jesus can change us into the best we can be.

While the film has a focus on fighting, it is what happens outside the fighting arena that changes Oren. The carpenter teaches Oren about carpentry, service, and love. Oren meets a girl and falls in love. He must decide between fighting or settling down with the girl. Oren gets the wisdom he needs through the timeless skills of carpentry.

 I love the part of the movie when Oren is visiting his father's grave. While talking to his dad about his life he realizes why the carpenter took him under his wing and he says to his dad "You knew the carpenter." It is then when Oren realizes who the carpenter is.
