My current beauty routine

 My beauty routine starts early in the morning. I wake up around 6 AM and use my NIRA Facial Laser before I head outside to run. After my 5-mile run, I nourish my body with a plant-based protein shake that I added flaxseed to. I then apply serum and moisturizer to my face.

 It’s time to get up and get moving. Get out and see the great outdoors on a bicycle. It can be a solo activity or make some new friends and go on grand adventures. You can go from couch potato to bicycle extraordinaire in as little as twelve weeks. It’s all about you deciding how much you want to do. How far do you want to push yourself? How good do you want to feel?

The Right Gear

 Choosing the right bike is going to make a huge difference in your success. Ideally, you’ll want it professionally serviced if you don’t know what you’re doing. You’ll also want it fit to your body size. A bike that is too big is dangerous and a bike that is too small is uncomfortable. Splurge a little and make sure you have the right gear before you set out on any long adventures. A sore bum is going to make you less likely to sit on the bike for longer than twenty minutes. Make sure you’ve got a water bottle, proper shoes and reflective riding gear. Familiarize yourself with cycling safety protocols. Use protected bike lanes and designated trails whenever possible and follow all local traffic laws when riding on streets. Many cities, including Spokane, Washington, offer a buffered, separated and shared bike lanes. Take time to plan your route to utilize the safest and most bicycle-friendly streets in your city.

It's preferable to wait until your dog is fully developed before extensive exercise. A dog's bones are fully formed between seven and 20 months, depending on the breed.   •    Always begin with low-impact exercise. If your run is too intense to start, you run the risk of your dog suffering an injury. Start by alternating between walking and jogging. Take your time and let your dog explore the route before you start jogging. Give time for your pup to have a potty break before your run and bring bags for clean-up.

  • Choose a path that suits you. Surfaces that allow for good traction, low-traffic neighborhoods with good lighting are best. Choose a grass or dirt trail that will be easier for your dog to manage and can avoid stiff joints from running on concrete. If you run in wooded areas, check your dog for ticks and fleas after the run. 

  • Be sure to check your local leash ordinances before running with your dog. Some cities, such as Louisville, Kentucky, require dogs to be restrained on a four-foot leash, while others may allow six-feet. You should plan to always leash your dog when running in order to protect those you pass on the path. A leash of that length allows your dog freedom on the run while you maintain control. You should train your dog to stay by your side while you run. The dog's nose should be at the level of your knees, and your arm should be down, not stretched out in front of you with your dog pulling.

  • You should teach your dog the basic voice commands before you start running. The dog should respond to sit, stay, and come on request, especially off-leash. Another helpful command is "leave it." Teaching basic obedience is helpful when encountering other dogs and their owners.
