4 New Hobbies You Can Enjoy During the Coronavirus Quarantine

Since I am spending more time at home this summer, I am looking for ways to pass the time. So I have picked up a new hobby and started an indoor garden. Check out some other hobbies that you may enjoy.

The effects of Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has impacted businesses all over the country, from retail to foodservice, forcing them to close to the public and keeping many at home. The quarantine imposed to limit the spread of the disease is still in effect for many, and you may find yourself bored and lonely as you isolate yourself from friends and loved ones. However, discovering the joys of new hobbies can help you survive this unprecedented situation and uplift your mood until the virus passes.

1. Cooking
If you tend to order out more often than you prepare home-cooked meals because of a lack of time, there may be no better time than to learn how to cook. There are millions of free recipes available online and you can order ingredients right to your door from your local market. If your mother or grandmother enjoys cooking, call and ask what kinds of simple recipes you might begin with or if there are any family favorites that your own kids or spouse may enjoy.

2. Mindful Journaling
If you would like to improve the way you practice self-care, then mindful journaling can be an effective companion to the process. Unlike an everyday diary, this type of journaling may help you unclutter your mind and help you to better understand your own feelings. You can find prompts online or come up with your own system for organizing sections related to mental, physical, and emotional health. Investing in colorful pens and stickers can give your journal a personal and individual appearance.

3. Scrapbooking Photos
While digital media has changed the way most people store their photos, you might have a few drawers full of older photos that require organizing, and scrapbooking can be a fun activity for accomplishing this. Adding dates, borders, and captions to photos can bring fond memories into sharp focus and prompt a family storytelling session that you can share with your kids. You may even have many of the required supplies around your house including scissors, glue, and a few empty photo albums.

4. Exercise
You may not think of daily exercise as a hobby, but many enjoy it as a way to relieve stress and avoid diseases related to obesity. There are many different types of exercise, so you may be able to find one that keeps you motivated. If you want to work out with others to avoid feelings of isolation related to social distancing practices, there are exercise communities online that share videos, tips, and streaming sessions.

COVID-19 has changed the way people interact and gather. Learning a new hobby during this time of isolation can keep you feeling happy and positive with each new day.
