Foster kids long for more than just a family. These kids want simple things and one simple thing that they most want is a bag to carry their items in. As foster kids move from one temporary home to another, their possessions are often carried in a trash bag. Yes, you read that correctly. These kids have to put their clothes and other items into a trash bag.
Kids in the foster system deserve better. These kids are being shuffled around from home to home carrying a trash bag. Learn how you can help these kids get a bag.
My Bag My Story Is On A Mission To Help Foster Kids
Cara Finger, Founder of My Bag My Story was a foster parent and was disappointed by the scarce secondhand luggage donations and limited resources available to foster families. Watching children carry their belongings in a trash bag or grocery sack or nothing made her sad. She knew that she had to do something. So she called on talented designers and manufacturers to create a product anyone would be proud to carry. Together with the overwhelming support and creativity from the foster care community, Cara founded My Bag My Story.
This holiday season you can help this organization by purchasing a colorful backpack, duffle bag, or a pouch for all of your friends and family. For each bag that you purchase, My Bag My Story will donate a bag to a foster child in need.
My Bag My Story has given over 2,600 bags to children in foster care
My Bag My Story has partnered with over 30 Tennessee-based organizations that work directly with children in the foster care system to get them high-quality duffel bags and backpacks. These organizations then hand out the bags to kids, so they can have something to carry their items in. It may be a simple bag to you, but to these foster kids, it is so much more.
These bags are more than just practical; they are symbols of support and recognition, affirming the inherent value and worth of every child in the foster care system. These bags help foster children feel seen and valued.
