Dairy-Free & Gluten-Free Products I am Excited To Try

Having multiple food allergies does not mean not enjoying food. It simply means changing your diet and seeking out allergy-friendly foods that are safe to eat. There are plenty of delicious allergy-friendly foods that make great substitutes for foods that have your food allergens in them. Keep reading to discover some amazing gluten-free and dairy-free products.

A little history of my food allergies

Five years ago, I discovered that food allergies were the cause of my severe asthma symptoms. Through an elimination diet and a food allergy blood test, I discovered that what I thought was a milk lactose issue was instead a dairy allergy. My whole life I thought that feeling sick after eating milk and ice cream was due to having lactose problems. After failing a milk lactose test and having allergy food testing done, I discovered that I was allergic to all dairy products.

A dairy allergy is quite different than a dairy lactose issue, as I discovered it 5 years ago. A dairy allergy means that you are allergic to milk proteins ~ whey and casein. While a milk lactose issue means that you can’t digest the lactose or sugar in the milk. Both issues can cause nausea, and vomiting, the symptoms that I had after consuming milk products. I later learned that a lactose issue causes symptoms in the gut like gas and diarrhea and a milk allergy can have symptoms like eczema and breathing issues.

I simply thought that my asthma symptoms were from seasonal allergies until my asthma got so bad that I could not eat, talk, or sleep without having an asthmatic coughing fit. Once I stopped eating all dairy products, my asthma got better. I still have seasonal allergies that trigger my asthma but I am doing an allergy shot treatment to cure my seasonal allergies.

Foods that I avoid

Through food allergy testing and a food allergy elimination diet, I discovered that I am allergic to dairy, mushrooms, and soy protein. I am temporarily avoiding wheat as I receive allergy shots as it has been giving me issues with my asthma symptoms and breathing. Eating wheat has been causing more inflammation in my lungs. The allergy shots are increasing inflammation in my lungs, so I am hoping that I can safely eat wheat again once my allergy shot build-up phase is done in three months.

I discovered so many delicious dairy-free and gluten-free products

I am so glad that there are many choices for dairy-free and gluten-free food items. As I am writing this article, I am on the train heading to California for an event called Expo West. This is a huge event where all the natural product industry people get together to showcase their natural products. Since I write about natural products, I got an invitation to attend the huge expo.

I will be able to see and taste so many products that are made with dairy-free and gluten-free ingredients. Not all the products at the event will be allergy-friendly so I will have to the labels on the products. Since the natural market is all about using healthy ingredients, the brands expect the buyers to want to know what ingredients are in the products. So I can ask them questions about their products and feel safe eating them.

I have connected with some brands before the show and I made a list of products that I am excited to sample at Expo West.

I do think I need to get more serious about testing my daughter for food allergies and start looking into dairy free and gf options. I clicked on your link to read more about the at home testing. Thanks for including that!
