The Right and Wrong Ways to Use a Diet Plan

Diet plans are all the rage now among people that want to lose weight or gain muscle. However, they’re used incorrectly most of the time and this is mostly because of the way they are advertised. You’ve probably seen plenty of advertisements on the internet where there’s a before and after comparison, and there’s a huge difference in the size or weight of the subject. Whether these are real or not aren’t the case—it’s what they are advertising to you that should be judged.

Diets don’t always work out because people either follow them too religiously and end up burning themselves out, or they offer no results because they aren’t followed correctly. Weight loss and gain are both about calories. If you consume more calories than you burn, you put on weight. If you burn more calories than you take in, then you lose weight. It’s a simple formula, but unless you’re counting calories (and being honest with it) it’s hard to tell how many calories you’re actually consuming.

Why Use a Diet Plan?

Diet plans have one fantastic advantage: all of the nutritional information is calculated for you. All of your meal plans are written down for you and alternatives are listed in the event you have allergies to certain foods. Diets like HCG Triumph come with their own supplements, but the general idea is that you control your portions using their plans and you try to stick to it as best as you can. The meal plan is arguably the most important part because it helps you to limit your calorie intake.

This is the correct way to use a diet plan. If you are going to follow any kind of diet, then the meal plan has to be followed and you need to understand why you’re following it. Look at the nutritional information and validate it with your own resources. Just use Google to look up the nutritional value of the foods they recommend you eat and if it’s accurate, then you can trust the diet.

The Wrong Way to Use a Diet Plan

Now that you understand why diet plans are made and why you should follow them, let’s examine some of the wrong ways to use a diet plan.

  • Scales aren’t everything - if you keep staring at the scales in disappointment because you aren’t losing weight, then don’t worry—dieting isn’t all about the scales. Of course, it’s nice to see a loss in weight, but if you’re exercising and building muscles then remember that muscles also take up weight. You’re trading fat for muscles, which is why your weight isn’t going to change that drastically.
  • Fads are fads - don’t follow extreme diets that skimp on certain foods. Although it does help you lose weight, it’s ultimately not as sustainable as you think it is. A balanced diet with proper nutrition is always going to be the healthiest way to put on or lose weight, and it’s easier to commit to a balanced lifestyle.
Stay positive - forcing yourself to eat certain foods just because the diet plan says so is stupid. You’re going to end up hating yourself and hating the meals you eat and you’ll just fall back into your old habits. Pick a diet plan that has foods you enjoy, not a diet plan with fancy advertising.
