The Best Spicy Salmon Waffles Recipe

Everything tastes better when made in a waffle machine

I received samples from Safe Catch to facilitate this post

I do love waffles and I like to make them every chance that I get. My favorite waffle recipe is one that is made with savory ingredients. My family thinks that I am strange as I like waffles that have roasted sunflower seeds in them. I am just not into sweet waffles covered in sweet sticky syrup. I like my waffles crispy and savory. Sometimes I even like my waffles spicy. How do you like your waffles?

The waffle maker can be so useful beyond making waffles. I have seen recipes for the waffle maker that uses muffin and brownie mix. I have also heard of people cooking mac and cheese in the waffle maker, I am not so sure of the mess with this recipe. I am sure that my boys would love mac and cheese in the waffle iron or maybe a peanut butter creation. I will stick with my savory sunflower seed waffles.

So when I saw this waffle recipe over at Safe Catch salmon waffles, I just knew that I had to make it as it sounded so delicious and it was a savory recipe. This waffle recipe was so me as I love that it was made with salmon. I do love salmon. Salmon is my favorite kind of fish. One of the best ways to enjoy salmon is straight from a can. I am not talking about just any can of salmon. This healthy girl demands sustainably caught salmon. I also want my salmon to be low in mercury.

A box of the most amazing seafood

I had just received the most amazing box of goodies in the mail the other day from Safe Catch. This company sure does know how to make me smile as this amazing box was loaded with so many delicious cans and pouches of seafood. I have never seen so many delicious varieties of tuna and salmon. The box also contained sardines, mmm. Do you love sardines? Again, my family thinks I am crazy but I enjoy eating sardines right out of the can. Sardines are also great on avocado toast.

Seafood is the main reason that I will never follow a 100% vegan diet or a vegetarian diet. I do prefer plant-based food most of the time. My dairy allergy makes it easy to not eat cheese but I will not give up seafood.  I love the taste of seafood. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with seafood, especially when it is sustainable seafood. Seafood is loaded with healthy Omega 3 oils and it is a great source of protein.

Not your average can of tuna

When most people think of tuna in a can, they think of tuna fish sandwiches. When I think of the tuna fish that I ate as a kid, I think of cat food. Safe Catch tuna is not your average can of tuna. This tuna is a cut above and is a safer tuna to eat. Did you know that the can of tuna that you probably had as a kid was loaded with mercury and dolphins were harmed in the process of getting that fish? Safe Catch gets its delicious tuna from well-managed fisheries using sustainable fishing methods. This company also tests each fish for mercury so it is lower than the FDA limits. This is a can of fish that you can feel good about eating.

What is in my can of salmon?

When you open a can of ordinary seafood like salmon or tuna, the first thing that you do is drain the oil or water from the can. With Safe Catch seafood, no draining is needed as they don't add anything to their can of fish. They don’t add oil, water, fillers, preservatives, or GMO-Soy broth to their salmon. So when you open up the can all you will find is pure wild salmon. That liquid that you see is natural fish oils so just stir it back into the salmon. Safe Catch also hand packs the raw wild salmon into the can and then slow cooks it to perfection. This method helps retain all the vital Omega 3 oils and nutrients.

The taste is what I like the best

Sure, I buy Sustainable tuna for earth-friendly reasons and for the fact that it is low in mercury but the number one reason I buy sustainable fish is for the taste. Sustainable fish tastes so good! The texture of Safe Catch fish is way better too. Just look at all those chunks of seafood! Taste and texture are important to me. It has to taste good or I won't eat it. I don't care how nutritious something is, I won't eat something unless it excites my taste buds. Trust me this recipe for Spicy Salmon Waffles will excite your taste buds. If you have ever tried salmon cakes, you will love this recipe! Salmon waffles have replaced my avocado toast.

Waffles that are full of flavor and nutrition

These delicious spicy salmon waffles are so easy to make. It is a one-bowl recipe. The waffle iron gives them an amazing texture and everything tastes better when it looks like a waffle. If you don't like spicy, just use regular mayo. You can also substitute coconut flour for the flour if you need a gluten-free option or a keto-friendy recipe. These waffles could be made with tuna also, depending on your preference. You could eat these like you would regular waffles with a drizzle of chipotle mayo and a sprinkle of everything spice. I was out of avocados but sliced avocados would be amazing on my spicy salmon waffles.  You could also place this delicious salmon waffle patty in a flour tortilla with some coleslaw. The spicy salmon waffle would be amazing in between a toasted everything spice bagel. This recipe makes one generous serving.

BBQ Pineapple Tuna Pizza That Is Dairy & Gluten Free

This pizza is wildly delicious!

I received samples from Wild Planet to facilitate this post

Most days I crave pizza and all it takes is for me to see a recipe for pizza to want one for a meal. The other day I was online and I saw this recipe for BBQ chicken pizza and it looked so delicious. So I knew that I had to make one for lunch. Now if you know me by now, I don't eat chicken and I have a dairy allergy. So that means I have to do pizza differently. I have only been dairy-free for 6 months but eliminating dairy from my diet has made a big difference in my health. My asthma is under control and I have been able to discontinue my allergy medicines. I am also sleeping better as I have not had any sleep apnea issues either. So as hard as it is, I have to avoid all dairy. I would do anything for a slice of gooey cheese pizza but for now, I use dairy-free cheese on my pizza. Since I don't eat chicken, I decided to try Wild SkipJack tuna on my pizza. This sustainably pole and line caught 100% pure tuna has a great texture and I knew that the barbecue sauce would give it great flavor.

230mg EPA & DHA Omega 3 per serving

I also keep my freezer stocked with these amazing gluten-free pizza crusts so I can make a dairy-free pizza anytime I crave a pizza. I don't have to eat gluten-free but I prefer Caulipower crusts as they have an amazing taste and they are so easy to top with my favorite toppings.

Wild Planet makes more than tuna

I always have a pantry stocked with Wild Planet products as they are so delicious and loaded with healthy omegas! I like that their seafood products are sustainable and so fresh. If you are a sardine fan, you have to try their Wild Sardines. The Wild Sardines are packed in extra virgin olive oil for great flavor and I am known to eat the whole can by myself. My husband loves Wild Planet's Organic Roasted Chicken Breast for his work lunches. It may be chicken in a can but he says it has great taste and he likes that he doesn't have to cook it.

I was amazed at the taste of my BBQ Pineapple Tuna Pizza as the flavors blended so well. The barbecue sauce made the tuna taste great and the pizza did not a fishy taste like I expected. So wild tuna makes a great substitute for chicken and I loved that I was getting 230mg EPA & DHA Omega 3 per serving. You have got to make this pizza to understand how delicious it is.

If you’ve tried Wild Planet, you know what I mean.

Dairy-Free & Gluten-Free BBQ Pineapple Tuna Pizza

Prep time: 5 mins Cook time: 20 mins total time: 25 mins

ingredients

Oven 450F

instructions

  1. Place the gluten-free pizza crust on a baking stone or sheet.  Spread the barbecue sauce over the crust and then top with the pineapple slices. Break the wild tuna into pieces and place evenly on the pizza crust.  Sprinkle on the dairy-free cheese. Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is slightly melted.
  2. Note: Dairy-free cheese has a tendency to not melt so I would take the pizza out once your crust starts to brown.
