Gluten Free Dairy Free Tiramisu Using Trader Joes Madeleine Cookies

This dairy and gluten-free tiramisu is so easy to make. A few simple ingredients and a box of Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Madeleine Cookies are all you need to whip up the best-tasting allergy-friendly tiramisu.

Having to follow a dairy-free and wheat-free diet can be tough, but once you learn how to modify recipes, it gets easier. When you learn how to swap ingredients in your favorite recipes, you will be able to enjoy the best gluten-free desserts that are also dairy-free.

I have food allergies, and I am allergic to both dairy and wheat. Eating something with dairy or wheat in it causes me to have a severe asthma attack, so I avoid these foods. I have been unable to eat wheat or dairy for the past 7 years, and it can be tough when it comes to eating desserts. For the most part, I am able to find good substitutes for my favorite desserts, but for the ones that I can't, I make them at home.

The one dessert that I have yet to find in stores that is both gluten-free and dairy-free is tiramisu. Many times, I have looked up recipes for making gluten-free and dairy-free tiramisu, but was frustrated at how hard it was to make gluten-free Lady Finger Cookies. So I never attempted to make tiramisu.

Then I discovered Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Madeleine Cookies

It was after my son's birthday when I had a craving for tiramisu. My son chose a regular store-bought tiramisu for his birthday cake, and it brought back memories of when I was able to enjoy this delicious dessert. I decided that I was going to finally make a tiramisu that was both dairy-free and gluten-free.

I again looked at recipes and realized that this dessert was basically layers of cream and cake-like cookies. I then had an ah-ha moment and wondered if the gluten-free madeleine cookies from Trader Joe's would work as a gluten-free substitute for the Lady Finger Cookies.

I bought a box of gluten-free madeleine cookies and decided to make a single-serving tiramisu with the cookies. I would have made a bigger tiramisu dessert, but there are only 6 cookies in the box. The frustration of following a gluten-free diet is paying more for gluten-free food.

The Best Birthday Dessert

I decided to make this dessert for my birthday as a special gluten-free treat. I gathered up all the ingredients and made sure to place the coconut cream in the fridge the night before my birthday. While this dessert is super easy to make, you have to chill the can of coconut cream and chill the dessert for several hours before you can enjoy it.

Ingredients Needed

~  Trader Joe's Gluten-Free Madeleine Cookies

~ Canned Coconut Cream, unsweetened

~ Powder Sugar

~ Cold Brew Coffee

~ Cocoa Powder

~ Cumulus Dark Chocolate Syrup

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee In Minutes

Tiramisu has a rich flavor of espresso coffee, and a typical recipe uses cold coffee. So I decided to use my Cumulus At Home Cold Brew Coffee Maker to make a glass of cold brew espresso for this dessert. I knew that cold brew coffee would give my tiramisu an amazing flavor.

So, I placed a decaf coffee capsule into the Cumulus machine and within minutes, I had a glass of the best cold brew coffee. I love how this cold brew coffee maker chills the water to make authentic cold brew coffee, not hot coffee that you make into cold coffee.

The Cumulus cold brew coffee maker makes three distinct brews perfectly chilled, at the touch of a button. From cold brew coffee to nitro cold brew to cold espresso, this is a coffee machine that you need to buy.

A Super-Easy To Assemble Recipe

This dairy-free tiramisu is super easy to make. A few simple steps are all it takes to make this gluten-free dessert. From taking the gluten-free cookies out of the package to making the creamy filling to assembling the dairy-free dessert, it is so easy to make this delicious dessert. Just follow these 6 easy steps.

 1. Make the creamy filling

 2. Dip the cookies into the cold brew coffee

 3. Place cookies in the dish

 4. Spoon the creamy filling over the cookies

 5. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4

 6. Dust with cocoa powder

Tips you need to know

~ Use a small dish as this is a one-serving recipe. Each layer of the dessert will use three cookies, so select your dish that fits the cookies with a little bit of space.

~ Chill the coconut cream for at least 24 hours. Then drain the liquid from the can and just use the hard part.

~ Dip the madeleine cookies one at a time and quickly in the coffee. They will become soggy and fall apart if in the coffee too long.

~ Sift the cocoa powder over the top of the dessert.

~ The dessert must be chilled for at least 4 hours before enjoying.

The best tiramisu for those with food allergies

This tiramisu is perfect for those with food allergies. It contains no wheat, dairy, soy, or nuts. It is a love-at-first-bite dessert. From the espresso-soaked cookies to the creamy filling to the cocoa powder on top, it is so delicious.

This tiramisu is a generous-sized serving for one, so it can be shared. As someone who has food allergies and can not eat traditional desserts made with wheat and dairy, I like to savor this dessert and only eat half of it at a time.

I don't care for coffee/coffee flavor, but I'm betting there are so many other things that could be used in combination with the Trader Joes Madeleine Cookies, that would make a great treat!

I love when desserts can be made dairy free and gluten free, not that I am intolerant, but usually I avoid it. This works as a great option, thanks for sharing

Omg thank you so much for this. My daughter is currently waiting on testing for gluten intolerance, but we know she has it as having a gluten free diet she has been so much better then a slip of having gluten floored her. She loves Tiramasu and I have said i need to look into recipes of her favourite things
