Easy Two Ingredient Soft Pretzel Recipe

These soft-baked pretzels are so easy to make and you only need two ingredients. They bake up so soft in the air fryer or the oven.

Have you ever made soft-baked pretzels before? They can be a pain in the rear to make. With the dough rising and having to soak the pretzels in a soda bath, it can take all day to make those pretzels. So when I discovered an easier way/recipe to make soft-baked pretzels, I just had to make them.

I am so glad that I tried the recipe. My family loved the soft-baked pretzels that I made from only two ingredients! I also made my pretzels in my air fryer but don't worry you can make these in the oven too. This recipe is incredible and the pretzels bake up so soft and taste so delicious.

Two Ingredient Soft Pretzel Are
~ Delicious
~ Easy to Make
~ Fun to make with Kids
~ Soft and Chewy
~ Made with Two Ingredients
~ Can be made in the Air Fryer

You need only two ingredients!

The two ingredients that you need for these soft and chewy pretzels are self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. I always have yogurt in the house as my boys eat tons of it. Did you know that you can make your own yogurt with an electric blanket? That is how I make my yogurt and I also make Greek yogurt. Check out my links for the recipes. You can also buy Greek yogurt at the store. Don't worry if you don't have self-rising flour as you can easily make some with 2 teaspoons baking powder and 3/4 teaspoon salt per one cup of flour.

Ingredients Need For The Pretzels
~ Greek Yogurt
~ Self Rising Flour

Check out this recipe for homemade yogurt made with an electric blanket!

Greek yogurt is loaded with protein so these pretzels have lots of protein!

These pretzels are super easy to make!

You simply combine the flour and Greek yogurt in a bowl. Then you knead it a bit and form them into pretzels. You can also make other shapes if you like. Then you bake for 12 minutes in the air fryer or about 25 minutes in the oven. It is that simple! A warm fresh chewy soft pretzel in about 30 minutes is awesome to me. No need to head to the mall to buy a pretzel. These pretzels are way more flavorful.

If you love pretzels, then you need to make a loaf of soft chewy pretzel bread. This bread is so delicious and tastes just like a soft pretzel. The bread even looks like a pretzel and is great for making sandwiches. You can even make this bread in a bread machine. Get the soft chewy pretzel bread recipe here!

Easy Two Ingredient Soft Pretzel Recipe

 Ingredients
1 cup self-rising purpose flour*
1 cup Greek yogurt (not regular yogurt, it will be too sticky)
1 egg white, beaten ~ optional for a shiny texture
kosher salt

Directions:
Oven temperature ~ see different cooking methods below

   1. In a medium bowl combine the flour and yogurt, mix with a fork or spatula until well combined (it will look like small crumbles).
2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until the dough is no longer sticky. Add more flour if needed.
3. Divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll each into a ball. Then roll the ball into a 3/4 inch rope and form that into a pretzel shape.
4. Lightly brush the egg white onto the dough and sprinkle kosher salt on top of the pretzels.
5. Bake the dough in a preheated air fryer or oven.

Two Cooking Methods:

Air Fryer Method
Preheat the air fryer to 325F degrees for 12 minutes. Spray the air fryer pan with non-stick pan spray. Place 1-2 pretzels at a time in the pan so they are not touching each other. Cook for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting.

Oven Method
Preheat oven to 375F. Place parchment paper or a Silpat on a baking sheet. Place the dough on the baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting.

*If you don't have self-rising flour, just combine 1 cup of flour with 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 3/4 teaspoon salt.

You can also make bagels with this dough!

I made some delicious everything bagels with this dough and they were awesome. They tasted like real bagels. I even topped my bagels with a homemade everything bagel spice that was so tasty. I use this spice on everything from eggs to vegetables. I just love this spice on avocado toast! Click on the below links for the recipes for Easy Two Ingredient Everything Bagel Recipe and Homemade Everything Bagel Seasoning Spice.

I love this Everything Spice on avocado toast!

I am a big fan of avocado toast. A slice of toasted bread with some avocado slices and a soft-baked over-easy egg that had a gooey yellow center. The best part of avocado toast, after the drippy yellow egg yolk, is the seasoning. I love sprinkling homemade everything bagel spice on my avocado toast. Sure you could buy premade everything spice but why as it is so easy to make and way cheaper! I love using the 2 ingredient bagel or pretzels for avocado toast.

1-Ingredient Gluten Free Buckwheat Bread

This gluten-free bread is made from one ingredient and has an amazing texture that is so similar to bread made with wheat flour. The bread is also flourless, vegan, and naturally oil-free. It is perfect for those with food allergies.

When I saw a video of this amazing flourless buckwheat bread, I knew that I had to make this recipe and share it with you. Don't let the word buckwheat fool you into thinking that this bread has wheat in it as buckwheat is naturally gluten-free and safe for those with wheat allergies.

I do not know who first developed the recipe for buckwheat bread made with whole buckwheat and little else, but they were a genius. This one-ingredient bread is amazing and has a nice soft texture that is hard to find in store-bought gluten-free bread. Of course, the best part about this bread is you won't have to shell out an arm and a leg to buy gluten-free bread at the store.

Gluten-Free Bread Made with 1 Ingredient: Buckwheat

This wheat-free bread is made with one simple ingredient, 2 if you count the salt, 100% buckwheat. So you are creating a bread that has ingredients in it that are good for you. Try saying that about most gluten-free bread that you buy. Buckwheat is delicious and nutritious.

Is buckwheat gluten-free and safe for celiacs?

Yes, buckwheat is gluten-free. Buckwheat, also called beech wheat or kasha, does not contain any wheat or gluten.

Despite the name, buckwheat is not closely related to wheat—buckwheat isn’t even a grain. Instead, buckwheat is a flowering plant related to leafy vegetables like rhubarb and sorrel. The name buckwheat comes from the resemblance of its small, triangular seeds to larger beech tree seeds.

Recipe Benefits

+ Vegan (egg-free, dairy-free)

+ Gluten-free

+ Wheat-Free

+ Allergy-Friendly

+ Oil-free

+ Sugar-free

+ High in fiber

+ 1 ingredient (plus water and optional salt)

+ Easy to make

+ Flourless

Ingredients Needed

+ Buckwheat Groats

+ Salt

+ Water

Make sure to use hulled buckwheat or buckwheat groats in this recipe and not buckwheat flour. If you are not familiar with buckwheat groats or have no clue where to find it in the store, keep reading. Buckwheat groats are a gluten-free whole grain that is often used to make hot cereal. So look for buckwheat groats in the cereal section near the oatmeal. Some stores may have this grain in the gluten-free section. You can always purchase buckwheat groats on Amazon.

Plan ahead

While this gluten-free bread recipe is easy to make, you will need to soak the buckwheat for several hours. I like to soak my buckwheat overnight and start making the bread in the morning. Then the bread batter will have to ferment for several hours.

Steps to make the bread

1. Rinse the buckwheat ~ To remove any residue

2. Soak the buckwheat ~ Place in a bowl with water, cover, and place in the fridge for 12 -24 hours

3. Drain ~ Do not rinse ~ the goo in the water is needed for the success of this bread

4. Process the buckwheat ~ Add salt and water to make the bread batter

5. Let the batter sit ~ This will take another 12 -24 hours

6. Bake the bread

7. Slather on the vegan butter and enjoy!

Amazing texture

If you like bread with texture, you will love this bread. This is a dense chewy bread that will remind you of whole-grain bread with nuts and seeds. This bread is great for toasting and avocado toast. If you love seeds in your bread, you are going to love this bread.

Add toppings

To make this bread even more amazing, sprinkle some seeds on top of the bread before baking. Don't go overboard on the seeds, as too many seeds may weigh your batter down and it may not bake properly.

Some seed options include:

- Sunflower Seeds

- Pumpkin Seeds

-Chia Seeds

- Sesame Seeds

- Flax Seeds

- Poppy Seeds

Simple Fresh Baked Sourdough Bread With Wildgrain

Love the taste of fresh-baked sourdough bread but hate the hard work? Check out this unique way to bake sourdough bread without using a sourdough starter.

There is something about the smell of sourdough bread baking in the oven that excites my tastebuds. Of course, the best part of baking bread is being able to enjoy a slice of bread fresh from the oven while it is still warm. Then spreading plenty of butter on the homemade baked bread from the oven is such a delicious treat. Do you love homemade bread with butter?

When was the last time you baked a loaf of homemade bread? Have you ever made sourdough bread from scratch? I am guessing if you have ever done bread baking, that it has been a while as baking bread at home is an all-day project. Maybe you made your first loaf of sourdough bread in 2020 when you had plenty of time on your hands. I admit that it has been a while since I baked bread. I also never attempted to make homemade sourdough bread.

Baked sourdough bread at home is not an easy thing to do. Making sourdough bread is quite complicated. To make sourdough bread, you need a sourdough starter. The problem is how to make a sourdough starter. The process of creating a sourdough starter from scratch to make sourdough bread can take several weeks of fermenting grains. This process of making a starter for sourdough requires daily attention. Sure cooking bloggers will say that making a sourdough starter is easy but don't believe them.

A sourdough starter may just be flour and yeast but it is the daily feeding of the starter that you have to do. Feed the starter the wrong amounts of flour and it can kill the process of making a sourdough starter and the starter will not work. It reminds me of remembering to water plants. If you kill house plants, then don't try making a sourdough starter!

I received a box from Wildgrain to sample. This post may contain affiliate links.

A simple recipe for fresh-baked sourdough bread

I discovered a simple and easy way to make a loaf of fresh-baked sourdough bread without having to first make a sourdough bread starter. This bread-making method takes less than 25 minutes and requires no kneading. The best part is this is a no-mess way to make homemade bread.

You simply open your freezer and take out a loaf of Wildgrain Sourdough Bread and place it in the oven. In less than 25 minutes you will have a fresh-baked loaf of sourdough bread along with the scent of bread baking in the oven. This is the best way to make sourdough bread. No messy flour all over the kitchen and no need to leave the house.

Meet the first baked-from-frozen bread membership for sourdough bread

If you like fresh-baked bread, then you are going to like receiving a Wildgrain sourdough bread box. This box of frozen bread that bakes into fresh bread is the best way to enjoy homemade bread often. Wildgrain is a monthly bread subscription for fresh homemade bread, artisanal pastries, and fresh pasta. It is the easiest way to bake bread and the best way to break a gluten-free elimination diet challenge.

Last month, I did food allergy testing and I tested high for wheat. The doctor suggested that I eliminate wheat from my diet for a month to see if it would help with my asthma symptoms. So that meant no warm slices of bread for me. That was a long month! When the month passed and eliminating wheat from my diet did not make a difference, I was able to eat whole wheat bread again. I celebrated by treating myself to a box of delicious sourdough bread from Wildgrain.

Wildgrain Sourdough Bread Subscription Box gets delivered right to your door

Ordering my first box of delicious sourdough bread from Wildgrain was super easy. I started my fresh-baked bread membership by choosing which box I wanted to receive. My choices were Mixed Box or Bakery Box. Then the hardest part was waiting for my box of frozen bread. I was so excited when my big box of bread was delivered.

My first box came a few days later and everything in the box was frozen. Opening the box up was like opening the freezer door, (the box was packed with plenty of insulation and dry ice). Inside my box, I found three different loaves of sourdough, two hand-cut kinds of pasta, and chocolate pastries. Thankfully, I had plenty of space in my freezer for the bread.

What is inside the Wildgrain Box?

Since Wildgrain is a monthly subscription of bread that you bake in the oven, the types of sourdough bread, fresh pasta, and dessert will be different every month but the box will always have plain sourdough bread.

The smell of bread baking in the oven is awesome

I couldn’t wait to make my first loaf. I started with the basic sourdough. The loaves of bread are all par-baked and flash frozen. So, they go right from the freezer to the oven and nothing takes more than 25 minutes to bake. While the bread bakes, sit back and enjoy the smell of bread baking in the oven.

Once the bread was done baking, my family members all appeared in the kitchen for a taste of the bread. The bread looked and smelled amazing. The crust was crispy and the inside was fluffy. I then put plenty of butter on the bread and took a bite. Oh my! This sourdough bread was amazing and so chewy! The best part was I was eating homemade bread without having done any of the real work!

Fresh pasta and dessert to go with the bread

If you like pasta, then you are in for a treat with the included pasta in the Wildgrain box. The noodles cooked up perfectly al dente. Add some sauce, toss in some cooked veggies and you have a perfect pasta to go with the cooked bread. While you are enjoying dinner, place the Wildgrain dessert in the oven to bake. My family said the chocolate pastries were delicious and so flaky. I will take their word as I could not try the pasties since they had milk in them.

Try a Wildgrain box of fresh-baked sourdough bread

This was simply amazing sourdough bread. If you like fresh-baked bread, you have to order a Wildgrain bread box. This bread is way better than the bread you get from the store. Wildgrain uses clean quality ingredients that are loaded with plenty of healthy nutrients. The sourdough bread even contains prebiotics for gut health. Wildgrain even says that people with gluten sensitivities can enjoy their sourdough bread as their fermentation process digests the majority of the gluten.

If you order Wildgrain and discover that fresh bread delivered to your house is not your thing, then you can cancel your membership ~ no questions asked. The Wildgrain monthly bread subscription is also very flexible, you can skip a month or pause your subscription. So give Wildgrain a try this winter for the best fresh-baked sourdough bread without any work!

60 Minute Homemade White Bread

There is something special about fresh-baked homemade bread. From the kneading of the bread dough to the smell of the bread rising. Then the magic of seeing the bread dough double in size. Maybe it's the aroma of the loaf of bread baking in the oven or the anticipation for a slice of warm bread fresh from the oven. The best part of DIY baking bread at home is eating the chewy slice of tender bread that is slathered with butter. Making homemade bread is something that most people have come to enjoy over the past couple of months as they have been sheltering in place at home while the world was trying to flatten the curve of a respiratory lung virus.

Homemade bread is comfort food

For most people, a loaf of homemade bread is comfort food. The C virus made us feel unsafe and comfort food was a good thing. Maybe it was the act of providing for your family or that the stores were out of bread. Whatever the reason that you discovered the joy of baking bread, it is probably an activity that most will have to give up as they head back to work as baking homemade bread is time-consuming. From start to finish, baking bread can take 3 hours or more. Even if you have a bread machine, baking bread still takes time. The bread machine can help eliminate the process of kneading the dough and you can bake the bread in the bread machine. My favorite way to use my bread machine is to make homemade pizza dough or pretzel bread.

11 Homemade Bread Recipes You Need To Bake

60 minutes from start to end for homemade bread

Sure you could buy freshly baked bread at the store but it is not the same as a hot loaf of homemade bread baked in the oven. Bread from the store does not have that bread aroma that smells so good. So if you still want homemade bread, this 60-minute homemade White Bread recipe is perfect for busy days or for a weekend when you have an hour of time to bake. Baking bread is a perfect way to unwind from a busy day at work. If you have kids baking bread is a great family quality time activity. Did you know that baking is also a great way to teach kids math and science? So you can call baking bread with kids a homeschool lesson. For a super easy homeschool baking activity, check out my recipe for homemade croutons in a bag.

Ingredients for better bread baking

If you want to bake the best bread, then these bread baking tips will help you bake delicious bread. The most important ingredient for baking bread is the flour. Using all-purpose flour is ok for baking bread but if you want a chewier texture and better rise, then I recommend bread flour. Bread flour has more protein and more protein produces more gluten. Gluten is the ingredient that gives the bread dough its stretch and elasticity which gives your baked bread recipe its chewy texture. White flour is always preferred over wheat flour as baking bread with wheat flour can lead to bread that does not rise that well. If you need tips to help your bread rise check out these six ingredients to help your bread rise higher. These ingredients are useful when baking with whole wheat flour.

The next ingredient that is important for baking a perfect loaf of bread is yeast. There are many types of yeast for bread baking. The types of yeast that I prefer for baking are active dry yeast and instant yeast. Both of these types of yeast can be purchased in single packs and in multi-user packages. The major difference between instant yeast and active dry yeast is that instant yeast does not need to be proofed in water. So when making 60-minute homemade bread, you will get the best results with instant yeast. If you do not have any yeast in the house and still want to bake bread, check out how to bake bread without yeast. My favorite bread to bake without yeast is a Quick Caramelized Onion Bread that is so delicious.

How to tell if my yeast is fresh

Since yeast is such an important ingredient, you want to make sure it's fresh and active. To test if your yeast is active, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water-110F. Then add 2 teaspoons of yeast. Let this sit for ten minutes. After 10 minutes, the yeast should start to bubble and expand. After another 10 minutes, it should be frothy. If your water has no bubbles it is time to replace your yeast. To keep yeast fresh, store it in the fridge. For long-term storage, yeast can be stored in the freezer for up to a year.

The best pan for baking bread

There are several ways that you can bake your bread dough. If you prefer your bread to be in a loaf shape, then I recommend using a bread pan. To get the best texture and rise, I like using Aluminized Steel Loaf Pans. These bread pans are also better quality so they will last a long time. If you want to make your loaf of bread in different shapes like artisan bread that is round or oval, then simply shape the bread dough and bake it on a baking sheet or a pizza stone. I have several pizza stones so I can bake two homemade pizzas at the same time. I like baking bread on pizza stones as it gives the bread a nice appearance and a crisper crust.

60-minute bread-baking tips

This quicker method of baking bread is different than baking regular bread. The bread dough will be sticky and you might feel tempted to add more flour but don't as that will affect the texture of the bread. If you have a stand mixer, then use that to mix up the bread dough. If you don't have a stand mixer then a large bowl and spoon will be just fine to use.

This quick homemade white bread recipe also has a different way to knead the dough. Instead of kneading the bread dough on a floured surface, your surface will be sprayed with cooking spray. Then the dough will only need a couple turns to be kneaded.

To make your baked bread look fancy, you can take a sharp knife and spray it with cooking spray. Then make 1/4 inch slashes on the top of the bread before baking.

How To Make Whole Wheat Frog Bread

A fun recipe to make bread in the shape of a frog. This is A kid-friendly recipe.

Now that school is out for the summer and the kids are stuck at home all day, this mom has to be creative with keeping them busy. So I decided to let the boys do some bread baking. Baking bread teaches science, math, and art. That is a win-win during this time of sheltering in place during the C lung virus pandemic. I get delicious bread and the boys have a fun school lesson!

Frog bread for the baking challenge

The boys decided to bake bread in the shape of a frog, and it turned out to be so amazing loaf of bread!

Since the boys have been spending extra time online during the COVID-19 crisis, they discovered frog bread. I have no clue how they stumbled upon a bread that is shaped like a frog. I am sure my boys were not on Pinterest looking for bread recipes or Googling bread recipes looking for a pretzel bread recipe

Maybe I should have asked them how they saw a loaf of bread that is formed into the shape of a frog. However, they found the frog bread recipe does not matter; the boys just asked me if they could make frog bread. So I decided that this froggy bread would be great to write about on my website, so you too can make bread that looks like a frog with your kids.

Short on time but love freshly baked bread? Check out this recipe for 60-minute homemade bread!

Making them learn

I am all about self-learning or independent learning, while the boys are stuck at home. So I printed my honey whole wheat bread recipe and handed it to my younger son. I was not going to have him search for a bread recipe when I know that my bread recipe is the best.

The kitchen was opened for my boys to have fun baking. I gave my son some bread baking tips and gave both boys permission to look up how to make a frog bread. Then I gave up control of the kitchen and stayed out.

I like that my boys are old enough to bake without my help. My boys are always excited to learn new recipes beyond baking cookies. My youngest son loves to bake cookies, and his favorite cookie to bake is one bowl vegan peanut butter cookies. The next oldest son doesn't like cooking but he loves doing art projects. So shaping bread dough into a frog was the perfect project for both of my sons.

Learning about kneading dough

My younger son used the KitchenAid mixer to make the bread dough. This stand mixer was the best small appliance purchase ever! The stand mixer makes it easier for my son to bake, and he makes fewer messes in the kitchen. The Kitchenaid stand mixer is great for mixing bread dough and more. I love my stand mixer for creaming the butter for homemade cookies, as it saves me time.

When my son finished making the bread dough, he asked me how to knead the dough. I decided to make the art of kneading bread dough into a lesson. I taught my son all about wheat gluten and how kneading bread dough improves the elasticity and texture of the dough. Gluten is the reason gluten-free bread is not soft and chewy.

To get more tips for bread baking, check out this bread baking post that includes 11 amazing bread recipes.

Shaping the bread into a frog and a turtle

My boys decided to also make a turtle-shaped bread in addition to the frog-shaped bread. If you want to make more than one animal, make sure to double the bread dough recipe. The recipe below has instructions on how to shape the bread dough so it looks like a frog. The bread dough is like play-dough, so have fun rolling the dough and shaping it. If you want to have more fun with bread dough, you need to make Focaccia Bread Flowers.

The smell of bread baking is the best

I was working upstairs while the boys were being creative in the kitchen, but once I started smelling bread baking in the oven, I knew that the bread was done. So I headed downstairs to take the bread out of the oven for photos. My boys were surprised that I knew the bread had finished baking.

I have a good sense of smell, and I can tell when bread and cookies are done. The smell of bread baking in the oven is the best smell, especially on a cold winter day. Winter is the best time to bake bread as it warms up the house. I was thankful that it was not a hot day, as using the oven in the summer can make your house seem miserable.  So in the summer, I make homemade bagels in the air fryer.

11 Homemade Bread Recipes You Need To Bake

The best part of baking bread

The best part of baking bread is eating a warm slice of bread fresh from the oven. It was fun to dissect a frog, more science learning for a homeschool win. I ate a frog leg piece of bread and it was so delicious. It was the best frog leg that I have ever tasted.

The boys were so proud that they learned how to bake bread and asked if they could bake something else. I can't wait to see what other unique recipes the boys discover when they have their daily computer time. Maybe I should teach the boys about searching for recipes on Pinterest and how to Pin recipes on Pinterest. That way, they can help me with my Pinterest page. Whole Wheat Frog Bread

Whole Wheat Frog Bread

Yield: 1 frog shaped loaf
Author:
A creative way to shape a loaf of bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 raisins or dried cranberries for eyes
  • 1 egg, whisked together for brushing on the dough

Instructions:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl, or in the bowl of a stand mixer.
  2. Knead the dough until it's smooth and just slightly tacky, about 8 to 10 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise until doubled in volume in a warm spot, about 1 hour.
  3. Once your bread is done rising, gently deflate the dough. Then lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray or oil.
  4. Cut the dough into three even pieces.
  5. Take 2 of the pieces of the dough and form into an oval shape-this is the frog's body. Place this on the baking sheet.
  6. Cut the remaining dough into 8 pieces with two of the pieces being slightly bigger for the frogs hind legs. Take the two larger pieces and shape those into a sausage shape. Then place those near the back of the frog's body.
  7. To form the frog's eyes, take two dough pieces, and form them into two balls. Place the eyes on the front of the body. Then place a raisin or dried cranberry in the middle of each eye.
  8. Then take 2 more pieces of the bread dough and form those into feet for the hind legs and place them in the front of the hind legs.
  9. With the remaining 2 dough pieces form them into a sausage shape and cut three toes on the front of those. Tuck those two pieces under the front of the frog.
  10. Lightly cover the dough with plastic wrap and place it in a warm place for an hour to rise. When the dough has risen, take a pastry brush and brush the egg all over the top of the frog before baking.
  11. Bake the bread in a preheated 350°F oven for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.  Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool before slicing.

Notes:

You can shape this bread in other fun animal shapes like a turtle. Just play around with the dough and form it
