Spring is here, and so are the weeds. They say April showers bring May flowers, but it also brings tons of weeds! I hate weeds in my yard, and I hate pulling them. I also have seasonal allergies to weeds. So pulling them usually results in hives all over my body as well as asthma problems. Leaving the weeds in my yard is not a good thing either, as they can cause allergy problems. So just like you, I want the weeds in my yard gone.

One might think that the best option for killing the weeds is a conventional weed spray that you purchase at the store or paying someone to spray the weeds. These weed-killing options are not good.  Conventional weed killers are loaded with toxic chemical ingredients that are bad for the environment. The store-bought weed sprays may also have chemicals in them that can cause cancer.

I also do not like using chemical weed killer sprays since they have harmful effects on the environment. I use a natural, homemade weed killer that not only kills the weeds but is easy to make. My DIY weed spray contains 3 ingredients that you can easily find in the grocery store at a reasonable price. My homemade weed killer makes a whole gallon of weed spray for less than $5.

This weed spray is safe to spray around kids and pets. You also do not have to worry about breathing harmful toxins. It is the best DIY homemade safe weed spray that will not harm the water supply. If you are looking for an eco-friendly weed spray, this natural weed spray is the best.

Kills weeds quickly

When you apply a weed spray to kill the weeds, you want fast results. This homemade natural weed spray works quickly and the weeds are dead within 24 hours. For best results, spray the weeds on a sunny day. Also, make sure to check the weather forecast to make sure no rain is predicted for the next 24 hours. I like to spray the weeds with the safe weed spray in the morning, as this spray works best with full sun.

By the afternoon, most of the weeds are already drying up. This weed spray is powerful and will kill any plant, even grass. So do not spray the weed killer on your lawn or on plants you want to keep. The spray is perfect for the weeds on the driveway and sidewalks. I use the spray all over my yard as my yard is made up of rocks.

Ingredients needed
~ Vinegar
~ Salt
~ Dish Soap

Super easy to make

This weed spray is super easy to make. You simply pour the ingredients into a weed sprayer container and shake it up to combine. I like to use a big reusable weed sprayer to mix up the weed killer. I really like this 4-gallon backpack garden and lawn sprayer. You can also use a smaller 1-gallon weed sprayer.

Three-Ingredient Weed Spray Recipe!

Homemade Weed Killer
1-gallon vinegar
1/4 cup dish soap
2 cups regular table salt
weed sprayer container

Pour the salt into the empty weed sprayer container and then add the vinegar.  Make sure to leave room in the container for the dish soap. Place the lid on the container and shake the vinegar and salt together. Unscrew the lid of the container and add the dish soap. Place the lid on the container and shake up all the ingredients again.

Spray the weeds with the mixture, making sure to saturate the plant and the roots. Bigger weeds may need more spray than the smaller ones. It can take 24 hours for the weeds to die. Don't spray near plants you want to keep or on grass, as it will kill both. This spray needs the sun to work, so spray on a sunny day.

Spray directly on the weeds in the morning and let the spray stay on all day.

Works best with the full sun!

Here are the weeds before I sprayed them. I live in New Mexico, and we landscape with rocks. I have rocks instead of grass, as we live in the desert, so not much rain here to grow grass. The spray works best with the sun, so spray the weeds on a sunny day. I like to use a big reusable weed sprayer to mix up the weed killer. I really like this backpack garden and lawn sprayer

Needs only a day to see results!

This is what the weeds looked like after 24 hours. I like to use this weed spray on small weeds that are a pain to pull. For the larger ones, I just pull them. This weed spray is also great for weeds that grow along the sidewalk, as those are so hard to pull out.

Do you have persistent weeds?

The weeds here in the desert can be tough to fight, even with this natural weed killer. Some people think harsh chemical weed sprays are more effective at controlling weeds, but in reality, weeds come back every year regardless of the type of spray you use. I have seen the city spray the weeds along the roads with those toxic chemical sprays, and the weeds still grow back because the toxic weed sprays only kill the part of the weed that is showing.

This natural weed spray works in the same way, but there are no worries of toxic chemicals in your yard or water supply. When you use a natural, non-toxic weed killer, you don't have to worry about cancer-causing chemicals.

Spray and pull the weeds

The best way to fight the weeds without harsh chemicals is to spray them with this homemade weed killer spray. I will also pull the weeds. My yearly plan to combat those nasty weeds is to spend one morning spraying the weeds right before summer, usually Memorial Day weekend. I also pull the big weeds. Then my yard looks nice for the summer. I also decided to try something new last year in my yard for a section of weeds that kept coming back year after year. I laid down thick black plastic over the stubborn weeds and left it there for several months. I was surprised that the black plastic killed the weeds permanently.
