Give Christmas Cookies From A Mix A Great New Taste

Make cookie mixes exciting with your own special touches

I usually don't like baking cookies from mixes but I had some in the pantry that I bought from Christmas sales last year. When I do bake from mixes, I add my own touch to make them taste and look better. I am going to show you how to make new flavors and looks from a couple of cookie mixes by just adding one ingredient.

Spicy Gingerbread Cookies

The cookie mix that I made into a different taste was a gingerbread cookie mix. The secret ingredient is black pepper. You might be thinking, black pepper in a cookie? Trust me on this one, you have to try it. Just add 1 teaspoon ground black pepper to a gingerbread cookie mix when you mix all the ingredients together. The black pepper brings out the ginger and tastes wonderful.

Rosemary Sugar Cookies

The next cookie mix is a sugar cookie mix. I added 1 tablespoon fresh Rosemary to the sugar cookie mix, if you don't have fresh you can use 1 teaspoon dried. The Rosemary gives a wonderful taste to the sugar cookies. Trust me again, you have to try it.

Chocolate Chip Muffin Trees

This cookie mix was a chocolate chip one. I baked the cookies in mini muffin tins. After making the dough, place 1-inch dough balls into grease mini muffin tins or in papers. Bake the cookies for 12 minutes at the same temperature on the package. Remove the papers after baking. I decorated the cookies with green frosting and Christmas sprinkles.

Sugar Cookie Tree

My older son got into the fun too! He took the sugar cookies that I made from the above mix and made a tree using green frosting and sprinkles.

Now you have no excuse not to bake cookies, as it is simple to make great cookies from a mix.

Do you have any ingredients that you add to cookie mixes that makes them special?

  1. Now that is something I never thought of. Adding to packaged mixes. Though I don't use the packaged mixes either, only rarely.
By the way your cookies look delicious!

  2. I love these ideas, especially the black pepper/gingerbread, I think that makes a great combination!

  3. When I'm in a rush, I'll use the package mixes too but I never thought about adding to them! Great idea. I love the muffin ones. I may try them this weekend.

  4. Great ideas!! These always taste great and now I can make them a bit different when I have extra time!

  5. I never would have thought of adding black pepper. I got to try that! Me either, I don't do cookies from mixes, but when time calls for it yeah know. Thanks for sharing this. I learn something.

  6. Those Rosemary Sugar Cookies sound fantastic! I never would've thought of anything like it. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Wow those are some interesting adds.. I may have to give those a try! Thanks!

  8. Just looking at this makes me hungry.

  9. Some fun ideas to keep it fast but still fun any time of the year including the holidays!

Thanks for the comment.
