Zebra Black And White Hydroxyapatite-FREE, Fluoride-FREE Toothpaste

Natural is a word that can be misleading. Companies like to slap the word natural on their products but they are not really as natural as they seem. The ZEBRA™ Black and White brand was born when a mom wanted the best for her son, after the diagnosis of a brain tumor.

The word natural can be so misleading to consumers. We see the word "natural" on a product and expect it to be a safe product with clean ingredients. The problem is we have a system that is designed to trick consumers and we need to what is in the product that we are buying.

One mother believes that her children were victims of dirty products and it took the diagnosis of a brain tumor in her son, to question the ingredients that were in the products that she was buying. Meet the person behind the brand Zebra, makers of toothpaste, deodorant, and more.

Zebra Black And White Personal Care Products

Jenn Thatcher left a successful career as an international artist to found ZEBRA. Jenn believes her children were victims of dirty products and a system that is designed to trick consumers. Her son Jack’s diagnosis of a brain tumor made her even more vigilant at researching every single ingredient in the products her family was using.

She realized that products are really not always as natural as they seem. She decided if she wanted something truly safe, and high-performance she was going to have to create it herself. This is how ZEBRA was born.

ESTABLISHED IN 2023

ZEBRA was founded on the idea that ingredients should be black and white. Nothing tricky, nothing hidden. Consumers should understand the purpose of every ingredient in every product. Ingredients that are safe, non-toxic, and high-performance, from a brand that seeks to empower consumers, and make the best decisions for themselves and their families all while doing good in the world.

EVERYTHING WE MAKE IS DESIGNED TO BE SAFE & EFFECTIVE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY.

Hydroxyapatite-FREE and Fluoride-FREE Toothpaste

One of the products that Zebra sells is toothpaste and it is one that you need to learn about. Zebra Hydroxyapatite-FREE and Fluoride-FREE toothpaste is a safer, non-toxic alternative to traditional toothpaste.

Most people who use natural oral care products know about the dangers of fluoride in toothpaste but it is a newer ingredient Hydroxyapatite, that we need to learn more about. Hydroxyapatite is often touted as a “miracle” ingredient in oral care but it has not been around long enough to know if it is safe to use.

Is Hydroxyapatite safe to use?

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an article about a new Hydroxyapatite toothpaste that I discovered. I compared this natural toothpaste to fluoride toothpaste. I was excited to learn that the toothpaste with Hydroxyapatite had similar benefits to toothpaste with fluoride in it but was made with natural ingredients.

Since the release of that article, I have discovered that Hydroxyapatite has the potential to disrupt the body’s natural remineralization processes and negatively impact health. Studies have been done with animals on the effects of Hydroxyapatite and since this ingredient is so new, I am questioning whether I should be using this toothpaste.

Zebra offers a Hydroxyapatite-FREE and Fluoride-FREE toothpaste

It was an email from Zebra that had me thinking about my toothpaste. I already knew that fluoride exposure is linked to lower IQ and that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) can irritate gums. I learned about these toothpaste ingredients when my younger son developed painful mouth sores from toothpaste.

ZEBRA helped me realize that I need to use a simple toothpaste with natural ingredients. So I reached out to them to see if I could get a sample of their Hydroxyapatite-FREE, Fluoride-FREE toothpaste. I needed to inform my readers about a brand that offers a clean alternative for families who refuse to compromise their health for a clean smile.

Zebra's toothpaste is powered by natural ingredients like Xylitol and Calcium Carbonate. This natural ingredient toothpaste is available in two flavors ~ mint and coconut. Head here to see the full ingredient list of the Zebra toothpaste.

Zebra sent me other product samples

Zebra also sent me other products from the Black and White line. From their natural deodorant to their silk dental floss, the black and white boxes with a zebra on them caught my attention. The simple boxes spoke to me and made me want to know more about the ingredients that Zebra uses in their products.

As a person who is healing from mold exposure, allergies, and asthma ~ I seek out products with safe non-toxic ingredients. I know the effects of what chemicals can do to your body. I suffer from asthma attacks when I am exposed to chemical fragrances and I break out in a rash on my when exposed to chemicals in skincare products. Even something as simple as a handshake can cause eczema on my hand.

All of Zebra's products are cruelty-free and never tested on animals. However, their deodorant and floss use beeswax, so they are not technically vegan. Their products are even gluten-free. Their whole product line is safe for the whole family. If you want safer products for your family, then head to Zebra and learn more about their products.

GuruNanda Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste Vs Fluoride Toothpaste

Fluoridated toothpaste has long been considered the gold standard in oral health care but new research has many avoiding toothpaste with fluoride. Check out a toothpaste that has similar benefits but is made with natural ingredients.

So many of us have grown up using toothpaste made with fluoride. It was the toothpaste that most dentists recommended for healthy teeth. We were told that fluoride toothpaste would prevent cavities. People loved fluoride so much that it was also added to drinking water. This mineral for decades was promoted as a proven method of preventing tooth decay.

Many years later, after dealing with so many cavities, I ask myself, how did fluoride toothpaste help me? Was it the lack of education about brushing my teeth properly? Could my poor dental health be the effects of a processed food diet on the teeth or was it the fact that I never went to the dentist as a kid?

I was the kid who ate plenty of sweets that were loaded with sugar. I had a rough childhood and I don't remember much about my dental routine. My mom was dealing with plenty and did not have the time to make sure that I was brushing my teeth. I also never went to the dentist.

What I do remember as a kid, was learning in school about how to brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste. I remember the dentists who came to the classroom gave us a toothbrush along with samples of fluoridated toothpaste. I also remember all the toothpaste commercials.

Since I had plenty of cavities as an adult, I made sure that my kids brushed their teeth. I also made regular appointments to the dentist. My kids also had a better diet than I did as a kid. I made sure to teach my kids about the importance of good dental hygiene.

Many years later, my family stopped using fluoride toothpaste after I discovered that my youngest son had a toothpaste allergy.  My son was allergic to several ingredients in regular toothpaste. It was the ingredients in the toothpaste, like SLS, glycerin, and fluoride, that gave my son mouth sores.

Around the same time that I discovered my son's toothpaste allergy, I also learned about the disadvantages of fluoride toothpaste +, so I stopped buying fluoride toothpaste for the rest of the family and instead purchased toothpaste made with natural ingredients. Back then, there were not many options for natural toothpaste.

+ Disadvantages of Flouride Toothpaste

What Is Hydroxyapatite?

Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring form of calcium. The primary function of hydroxyapatite in toothpaste is to help remineralize your tooth enamel. This helps protect your teeth against dental decay.

Check out my recipe for ~ Homemade Natural Lemon Drop Toothpaste

Homemade Natural Lemon Drop Toothpaste

I love it when I can save money with homemade DIY products!

I received a sample of lemon extract which was perfect for this recipe.

Many years ago we discovered that my youngest son was allergic to ingredients that are in many brands of toothpaste. There are only a couple brands of natural toothpaste that my son can use and he only likes one of these brands, the expensive one. So I keep buying this lemon toothpaste as I want my son to brush his teeth. When I realized that I could make a homemade toothpaste that was similar to the one my son likes, I was so happy as that meant I could save money. I like saving money.

So how is one allergic to toothpaste?

It was a free sample of toothpaste that led to my discovery of my son's allergies. My son had painful mouth sores at an early and his doctor prescribed a mouthwash to help it feel better. The mouthwash for mouth sores was called magic mouthwash and it had to be applied frequently to his mouth sores to make them feel better. The cold sore mouthwash did not cure the sores in my sons mouth but just made them feel better. It seemed that my son always had a couple of red sores in his mouth and he was using a lot of the magic mouthwash on a daily basis.

I had no clue that the mouth sores caused by the ingredients in his toothpaste. When I received a sample of an all-natural toothpaste at a conference, I went to their website to check it out. It was there that I discovered that a common ingredient in toothpaste called SLS could be causing his mouth sores. SLS or sodium lauryl sulfate is an ingredient in many common toothpaste brands like Crest and Colgate. So I encourage my son to try the toothpaste for a week and the mouth sores went away. My son continued to brush his teeth with the natural toothpaste and his mouth felt so much better. I was glad that I discovered that my son's mouth sores were caused by an allergy to SLS. So my son no longer needed to use the cold sore mouth wash.

My son was also allergic to an ingredient in natural toothpaste.

When the sample of natural toothpaste ran out, I bought a different brand of natural toothpaste that did not have SLS in it. A week after using this natural toothpaste that did not have SLS, the mouth sores came back. So I did some more research into ingredients in toothpaste that could cause mouth sores and I discovered that the ingredient glycerin could be causing the mouth sores. So my son went back to using the other natural toothpaste that did not have any glycerin in it and the cold sores disappeared. I also later discovered that glycerin can be in chewing gum and candy. So now my son has learned to read ingredients before he has gum or candy.
sodium lauryl sulfate
Even mom loves the taste of this natural toothpaste!

Mom is tired of spending $7.00 on a tube of toothpaste.

When I received a sample of a lemon extract, I decided to make this natural toothpaste in hopes that my son would like the taste. I already had the other ingredients on hand as the bentonite clay is rich in magnesium, which we use for his growing pains. So I mixed up the homemade natural toothpaste in a small batch to see if my son liked it. I also made a small batch so it would stay free of bacteria. Once I discovered my son loved the taste of the lemon toothpaste I doubled the toothpaste recipe and divided it into small containers. I stored the containers that my son was not using in the fridge. This toothpaste did a great job of cleaning my teeth. My son says that I should use chocolate extract next time for chocolate toothpaste.

This natural toothpaste is so easy to make and I recommend storing the toothpaste in a small container as it has no preservatives in it. Also, make sure that you use a small clean spoon to apply the DIY toothpaste to your toothbrush, that way no bacteria gets into the container of natural toothpaste. This delicious tasting natural toothpaste can be made into other flavors like mint or cinnamon by switching out the lemon extract for mint or cinnamon extract. The toothpaste that is all-natural does not foam like traditional toothpaste but it still cleans your teeth. My son has not had any cavities and his dentist approves of the toothpaste. This natural toothpaste does not contain fluoride either and my son's dentist is on board with my son not using fluoride in his toothpaste.

Homemade Natural Lemon Drop Toothpaste

Ingredients
2 Tbsp bentonite clay
3-4 Tbsp distilled or boiled water that has cooled
1/8 teaspoon powder stevia
1/4- 1/2 teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Organic Pure Lemon Extract

Directions
Combine 3 Tbsp of water with clay in a non-metal bowl and mix well using a non-metal spoon (the clay should never come in contact with any metals). Add half of the stevia and 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract. Mix well.

Add a pinch of salt, mix well, and taste. Add additional stevia and/or lemon extract and/or water to taste and texture, adding extract one drop at a time and water 1/2 Tbsp at a time. The flavors will blend together over time, so wait 48 hours before making significant adjustments to the flavor.

Does Toothpaste Cause Canker Sores?

Could toothpaste be the cause of mouth sores? Keep reading to discover the ingredients in toothpaste that could be the cause of canker sores.

My youngest son tends to get mouth sores, known as canker sores, almost weekly. When I mentioned this to his doctor, she prescribed my son a bottle of "magic mouthwash," or what is simply milk of magnesia. The magic mouthwash is a topical lotion that is applied to the mouth sores to help numb the pain. My son hates the taste of this mouth medicine and the way it feels in his mouth.

I knew that something had to be causing the canker sores in my son's mouth, and wondered if it was something he was eating. As a mom who wants to raise my kids more naturally, I wanted to heal my son with a more natural remedy.

I recently attended a natural healthy conference to learn more about raising my family with healthy natural products. I met with a lot of companies and gained a lot of new information about new products. I also left the conference with lots of samples of products. One of those products was EarthPaste, a natural toothpaste. I was excited to try this toothpaste as it was made without fluoride.

Brushing my teeth with Earthpaste

That night, I decided to brush my teeth with the Earthpaste toothpaste. When I applied the natural toothpaste to my toothbrush, I was shocked that the toothpaste was brown. So I picked up the tube and read it to find out what was in this toothpaste. I was surprised at what was in the toothpaste, but I was even more surprised at what was not in the toothpaste.

Earthpaste toothpaste contains only five ingredients: Water, Redmond Clay, Real Salt, essential oils, and xylitol. I knew that clay was good for the body, but why was it in toothpaste? So I went to the Redmond website to find out more. I discovered that EarthPaste does not contain foaming agents, coloring, glycerin, or sodium laurel sulfate.

Through more research, I learned that sodium laurel sulfate could cause canker sores in some people. So I wondered if SLS was the reason my son had canker sores in his mouth. Could the kid's toothpaste that my son was using be the source of these mouth sores?

So I tried Earthpaste before giving it to my son. I was surprised that it had a nice cinnamon taste. I then asked my son to try the Redmond Earthpaste toothpaste to see if he liked the taste. My son loved the taste of this natural toothpaste, and I asked my son if he would use this new toothpaste for a week to see if it could help with the mouth sores. My son was willing to brush his teeth with the Earthpaste as he wanted the mouth sores to go away.

Did Earthpaste eliminate my son's canker sores?

So did the switch to EarthPaste eliminate my son's mouth sores? I am happy to say that, after two weeks of using EarthPaste, my son no longer has mouth sores. I wish I had known about how sodium lauryl sulfate causes canker sores a lot sooner.

I was so excited to find the cause of my son's mouth sores, and I reached out to Redmond to let them know. Redmond, the manufacturer of the toothpaste, sent me flavors of EarthPaste, so my son could try them all to see which one he liked best. After trying all of the different flavors of Earthpaste, my son liked the lemon flavor the best. My son was happy that Earthpaste helped us discover how to eliminate the mouth sores, and he will only use Earthpaste when he brushes his teeth.
