Healthy Snacks and Sweets That You Need To Try

Snacking is a favorite thing for most people. From chips to candy, snacks are everywhere and they were plentiful at the Snacks & Sweets Expo that I attended in Indianapolis. While sugar and junk food were everywhere, there were plenty of healthy snacks to taste.

This was my first time attending the Snacks & Sweets conference and I had a wonderful time. The event was a huge event that focused on snacks and sweets that are available in stores. I was simply amazed at all the booths that offered sugary and salty snacks for people to taste. I was also amazed that there were plenty of healthy snacks that I could try.

My focus while I was walking the floor at the expo hall was checking out healthy snacks that were also allergy-friendly. While checking out the booths, I noticed many familiar brands that I had met at Expo West. There were also plenty of new healthy snack brands that I needed to discover.

While hunting down the snacks, I did have some snack-tasting requirements that I had to follow before I took a bite. This girl loves snacks but with my 4 food allergies, I needed snacks that contained no dairy, wheat, soy, or mushrooms. Mushrooms in snacks? Yes, they are now putting mushrooms in snacks like cookies and crackers.

Please note: I was provided with samples at no cost in exchange for an honest review/mention. I was not otherwise compensated for this post. I received a free entry to the Sweets and Snacks show as a member of the “media.” All opinions are my own. This post contains Amazon affiliate links. If you use these links, I’ll receive a small commission.

So many snack samples!

This huge snacking event also had so many samples that I could take home. So I made sure to grab some snack samples for myself and my boys. My boys love snacks, both healthy and not-so-healthy. So this mom gathered up plenty of snacks.

Sweet or Salty

When it comes to snacking, do you prefer salty or sweet? I am a salty kind of person but I also love my sweets. I try to snack on the healthy stuff but at times, I do love a good piece of chocolate. It just has to be dairy-free chocolate as I have a severe dairy allergy.

Snacking can be healthy and I am here to share with you some of my favorite healthy snacks that I discovered at the Snacks and Sweets Expo. I made three snack categories to make it easier to discover your favorite type of snack items.

Delicious Healthy Breakfast Products That You Need To Try

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So fuel your body with these delicious healthy breakfast items.

Eating breakfast should be a part of your healthy meal plan. Your body has been without food for at least 8 hours, so it needs the fuel from food to get going again. Think of your body like a car. You can't drive a car that has no gas in the tank, so don't expect your body to function without food. Your body needs healthy food to run properly, so it is important to eat a breakfast that contains protein, carbs, vitamins, and minerals.

When you choose to skip breakfast, that can lead to unhealthy actions later in the day. If you start your day without breakfast, that may lead to overeating at lunch or making unhealthy food choices, as your body is starving and probably not thinking straight. Yes, your brain and mind need the nutrients from food to think. That is why a healthy breakfast is so important for kids who go to school. A breakfast that is loaded with no nutrition or no breakfast at all can make it hard for kids to concentrate at school.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day

I just can't understand people who don't eat breakfast. I wake up hungry and would not be able to focus on anything if I skipped the first meal of the day. My mind would focus on the hunger pains from an empty stomach. So I always start my weekday with a smoothie that is made with plenty of protein, fruit, and superfoods. My weekend breakfast is usually Dairy Free Vegan Chocolate Protein Pancakes with fruit or oatmeal topped with eggs, vegetables, and avocado.

I recently discovered some healthy breakfast options that I have been enjoying for breakfast. From an all-natural protein pancake mix to some delicious breakfast drinks, these are healthy items that I am excited to tell you about.

Healthy breakfast products you need to try

Happy Day Brands— Protein Pancake Mix

My youngest son loves making pancakes for breakfast. When he makes homemade pancakes, he adds a couple of scoops of protein powder to the pancake mix. While the protein powder gives the pancakes plenty of protein, the pancakes don't always have a good texture as he forgets to add more water to the pancake batter. So I was excited to discover a pancake mix that has plenty of protein.

This all-natural pancake mix from Happy Day Brands contains healthy whole-grain ingredients and 15 grams of protein per serving. The pancakes are also low in sugar with just 4 grams of sugar per serving. The healthy pancake mix creates pancakes that cook up just like other pancake mixes. I also love their "Buy One, Give One" program as every product purchased provides a meal to Feeding America food banks.

Transformation Factory— Elderberry Sea Moss Gel

Sea Moss Gel is loaded with an abundance of essential minerals and tastes so delicious. Most people like to enjoy this marine superfood by the spoonful but I have discovered that it tastes great as a pancake topping. So swap out that sugary pancake syrup with sea moss gel to add awesome nutrition. You can also stir the sea moss gel into the pancake batter to reap the health benefits.

What is sea moss? Transformation Factory’s sea moss gel is a marine superfood that is loaded with 92 of the body's 102 essential minerals. This delicious gel has benefits that help with inflammation, healthy mucus membrane support, digestive health, thyroid support, and mental and reproductive health. The elderberry flavor of sea moss combines the 92 minerals from sea moss with vitamin C, dietary fiber, and antioxidants in the form of phenolic acids, flavonols, and anthocyanins from the elderberry. Elderberry is commonly used to boost the immune system and treat colds and flu. Transformation Factory sea moss blends do not contain white sugar or sugar substitutes. Their ingredients are simple, sea moss, elderberry, and agave.

Selefina Palatable Hues - Natural Food Color Set

Make breakfast colorful and fun with natural food color powders. These jars of natural food coloring powders from Selefina Spices add beautiful color to pancakes and more. The pretty-colored natural powders get their colors from mangos, hibiscus flowers, and butterfly pea flowers. A little bit of the power adds intense color to the pancakes.

The natural color powders can also be used in other recipes like cookies, cakes, bread, frostings, and even yogurt. The powders did not change the taste of my pancakes but added some pretty color. The butterfly pea flower powder was my favorite as it turned my pancakes into a pretty shade of blue. The other colors were had to notice in the pancakes but still gave the pancakes a light tint of purple and yellow. I am excited to use these natural food coloring powders in my homemade Christmas Cookie Frosting as the colors will make the sugar cookies for Santa look so pretty.

Aloe Vio Drink

If you are looking for a delicious healthy breakfast drink, then you need to try a tasty aloe drink. Aloe Vio combines the natural juices from aloe vera into refreshing waters and juices. These drinks have 21% to 30% aloe vera and are loaded with plenty of healthy benefits.

According to helpful medical resources such as WebMD, aloe vera juice contains beta-carotene that helps support eye health, can also relieve heartburn, treat constipation, and is an anti-inflammatory. Aloe vera is also a rich source of antioxidants, helping the body to fight free radicals. This plant is also packed with important vitamins and minerals, like vitamins C, A, and E, folic acid, calcium, and magnesium. Aloe Vio’s drinks also contain iron, selenium, phosphorus, and added collagen. The drinks come in many delicious flavors like strawberry, watermelon, pineapple, and mango. You will love that the aloe drinks are dairy-free, gluten-free, and have zero preservatives, artificial flavors, or colors.

Organic Olive Supplement

Olives are a powerful superfood and are great to include in your healthy breakfast. Olive benefits include powerful antioxidants and high vitamin E content that are good for your heart, as well as oleuropein – a strong anti-inflammatory that may reduce the risk of chronic disease and provide full immune-system support. The problem is to get all these benefits you would have to eat a lot of olives and olives don't taste well on pancakes.

So to get all the amazing health benefits from olives, you need to add an organic olive oil supplement to your breakfast. SuperPure@ Olive Extract from Pure Synergy is the first olive extract to unite the extraordinary antioxidant and immune-supportive benefits of olive oil, fruit, and leaf – all in one daily capsule. One capsule protects a healthy heart & cardiovascular system, provides deep support for healthy cognitive function & overall healthy aging, and fosters a healthy immune response for daily well-being. That is the equivalent antioxidant benefits of a full 1-liter bottle of organic extra virgin olive oil per capsule. This supplement is Certified Organic, Non-GMO, SuperPure®, Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Kosher.

So check out these healthy breakfast products and start your day off the healthy way.

My Favorite Finds At Expo East

Expo East is the fall natural products show from New Hope Network. This is a huge event for the natural & organic community to showcase the latest products that are available in stores. The event is all about seeing and trying the latest natural food, beverages, personal care, and supplements.

A couple of months ago, I attended a huge event called Expo East. Expo East is an event where all the healthy and natural brands come together to showcase their latest products and the buyers come to check the products out. It is a show where decisions are made and it is how new products get to the shelves of stores. Since I write about healthy products on Mom Knows Best, I get to attend Expo East on the media side. I also attended Expo East last year for the first time, so I was glad that I received another invite. This year Expo East was in Philidelphia.

This is an event that I get super excited about as I get to see all these products that focus on healthy living. The best part is being able to sample healthy foods, supplements, and beauty products. It is a three-day event of fun eating and talking to brands about their products.

I love chatting with brands that I featured on my website and discovering new brands to work with. I think what I love most about Expo East is feeling safe when it comes to sampling the products. Having multiple food allergies can make it super tough to eat outside the home. Since this is an event where the brands are proud of the healthy ingredients in the products, they expect people to ask about the ingredients and they have the packages of the food right there for me to look at.

My favorite healthy products!

There were over 1200 brands at Expo East and I had 4 days to discover them all. While there were so many products that I loved, it is very hard to say which ones were my favorites. So I am going to focus on the ones that made a huge impact on me and the ones that I have made a part of my life. Many of my favorite products are plant-based products and of course free from dairy, soy protein, and mushrooms.

The first day of the event started with a small number of booths that feature brands that are fairly new to the wellness market. At this event, I discovered the most amazing dairy-free chocolate caramel cookie bar from No Whey Foods. This delicious vegan chocolate was free of the top 9 common allergens. I was happy to discover this Epsom-it Muscle Recovery Lotion as I have discovered using magnesium lotion before bed helps me to sleep as well as help with muscle aches. I also discover these delicious gluten-free Pink Himalayan Salt Chickpea Chips that are loaded with plant-based protein

The next day at Expo East I started my morning by checking out the supplements first instead of the natural foods like I did last year. It seems that most people start the event with food as eating is the best but since I had a good breakfast I decided to pass the crowds and go to supplements. I had to find the Olbas booth to discover their breathing products. Last year at Expo East I grabbed a sample of their Olbas nasal relief inhaler and their Olbas Sugar-Free Cough Drops Lozenges. These products have been life savers to me as they have helped opened up my airway when I am having asthma problems. So I had to meet the brand and check out their other herbal remedies. I am glad that I did as I got to experience a neck massage with their Olbas Oil.

I also had to visit Ridgecrest Herbals to discover what new products they have. I love their Clearlungs supplement as it helps me manage my asthma without prescription drugs. While I was checking out the supplements I discovered Natural Vitality Calm Magnesium Gummies. I love their magnesium drink for helping me fall asleep so I was super excited to see a gummy formula.

Next up were natural household products like soaps and cleaners. I was on a mission to discover new bars of soap for my teen son as he was not a fan of the ones that smell like flowers and lavender. I found a bar of soap from Bulldog that had a nice light scent that was made for men. Since it was scented with essential oils, it did not bother my asthma.

I was also on the hunt for a new laundry detergent that had a scent that would not bother my asthma. I have been using unscented detergent but my family has been frustrated with the way the clothes smell. I was very excited to have discovered Art of Green cleaning products. At their booth, I smelled their new lavender-scented laundry soap and it agreed with my nose. This eco-friendly company makes cleaners with plant-based ingredients and the best part is how affordable they are.

Delicious healthy food finds

After several hours of checking out supplements, I was hungry. So I headed over to the natural organic food section for some good eating. I was happy to see many plant-based food products. From vegan burgers to plant-based salmon with lots of plant-based snacks, I ate plenty. I enjoyed the best vegan cream cheese made from sunflower seeds. Spero Sunflower Cream Cheese comes in many flavors and I had to try them all. I like the way that they hand you a plate with bagels and a little dab of each flavor of cream cheese. My favorite flavor was Smoked Salmon.

Then I was in heaven when I discovered plant-based salmon and tuna products that had no soy! I may have had several samples of this plant-based seafood and on the last day of Expo East, the people working the booth gave me a full-size sample to take with me. So I enjoyed the salmon at breakfast with my bagels.

My favorite sweet food items were certified vegan cookies from Fat Badger Bakery. These dairy-free cookies were so delicious and I loved learning that they were made in a facility that does not use any dairy products, so no risk of cross-contamination. The chocolate sea salt was my favorite cookie. Another plant-based dessert that I had to sample several times was Nada Moo Frozen Snack Bites as I had to try every flavor. These bite-sized vegan ice cream balls came in flavors like orange cream and peanut butter chocolate.

So many delicious drink options

There were plenty of drink options at Expo East from cold brew coffee and tea to energy drinks and flavored water. The one drink that I really enjoyed was chocolate-flavored sparkling water from Jelly Belly. This water had a delicious light flavor and also came in vanilla, cherry, pear, orange, and watermelon. I also discover this water that was in aluminum bottles made by Boomers for Gen Z to drink. The logo on the Gen Z Water was awesome and you need to read it in the below photo. One coffee company that stood out to me was Death Wish Coffee. This coffee had a nice bold taste.

Regenerative food finds

New to me this year at Expo East was regenerative foods. These were food products that were made with upcycled ingredients or imperfect foods. These were brands like Spudsy. Rind, and Barnana that use imperfect vegetables to make their delicious snacks.

The best vegan products

Expo East also had plenty of vegan products that I was happy to discover. One product was a vegan and gluten-free bouillon cube that did not contain soy. I loved that it came in many varieties like Not-Chick'n and onion. I also enjoyed some shelf-stable vegan Pad Thai noodles that were gluten-free and so easy to make in my hotel microwave. They were very tasty with vegan burgers and veggies that I had bought from Trader Joe's.

So many booths so little time

I left the Expo East event with many samples and many new brand connections. It will take me a while to sample the many natural food items, personal care products, and supplements. Since I spent most of my time talking with new brands of natural products and eating, so I don't have many photos. Teach Kids Nutrition Kids With Ecologic Memory Eating In Season Game

Seasonal fruits and vegetables are not only delicious but make a healthy diet. Check out this game that teaches kids that fresh food is good for them.

Teaching nutrition to kids at an early age is important as it can help develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Kids are like sponges when it comes to learning at an early age. This learning that kids do at a young age can also apply to healthy eating. The best way to teach young kids about nutrition and healthy eating are through the food that they eat.

Teaching nutrition to kids through a healthy diet can start with the first bite of food that parents serve to their babies. When you serve food to your kids, you can not only talk about what they are eating but also what nutrition is in the food. So as you give your young child a bite of carrots, tell them that carrots are loaded with vitamin A. Then talk about how vitamin A is good for the skin and eyes. When you give your child a slice of whole wheat bread, talk about how bread has whole grains. Then discuss about whole grains are a good source of fiber and vitamins. Kids need to learn nutrition at a young age to make good choices in food when they become adults.

Teach kids about fruit and veggies with a fun memory game

Fruits and vegetables are part of a nutritious diet. Most kids don't eat enough fruits and vegetables. The reason for kids not eating plenty of fruits and veggies may simply be that they are not served with their meals. So little children can not learn how delicious fruits and veggies are if they do not eat them. The reason kids are not served fruits and vegetables may be as simple as their parents don't eat them. It may also be the fact that most adults don't have a clue about nutrition.

The Ecologic Memory Eating In Season Game may help teach kids about how delicious fruits and veggies are. This fun memory game can also encourage kids to eat fruits and veggies. Both kids and grownups can play this fun game about fruits and veggies to learn about their importance of them in a healthy diet. The game, Ecologic Memory Eating In Season also teaches kids about seasonal fruits and vegetables.

" Players try to match a pair of veggies or fruits while learning about which season is best for eating each food."

Did you know that eating fruits and veggies when they are season is good for the planet?

What’s a July picnic without corn on the cob or a Thanksgiving meal without pumpkin pie? Seasonal fruits and vegetables are not only delicious but make a healthy diet and, more importantly, help the environment. These big concepts are tucked into Ecologic Memory Eating In Season, an innovative ecologic memory game for preschoolers.

This fun memory game for preschoolers teaches kids that fresh food is good for them and for the planet. The colorful cards in the children's game show cute pictures of the fruits and vegetables. The game pieces show the fruits and veggies as characters having fun doing things like swimming or skiing. So kids can learn the season that these fruits and veggies grow in.

So preschooler will spot a cheerful eggplant swimming in the summer and a grinning broccoli skiing in the winter. Kids as young as two years old can turn the cards over and match up the fun produce characters. The fun memory game that features fruits and veggies, will help kids make the connection between produce and the seasons.

Parents can learn from the included guide

Even parents can learn from this memory game. The enclosed guide for parents helps parents learn about the right season for thr fruits and vegetables. This information then helps parents explain to their young children that food eaten in the right season was probably grown nearby. This can open up a conversation about what sustainability is. Sustainability means that fruit and veggies did not travel far from the farm to your plate.

This game can also encourage parents to grow a garden with their kids to further teach kids about sustainability. A backyard garden is another great way to help kids develop a love for fruits and veggies. Once kids and their parents figure out how delicious fruits and vegetables are they will be looking for recipes that use garden produce.
