The Tropical Anti-inflammatory Overnight Oats recipe gets its joint and skin health benefits from some amazing supplements that contain turmeric and collagen. So think beyond Golden Milk Lattes and collagen in coffee. I am going to show you a new way to incorporate collagen and turmeric supplements into your meals with flavored supplements from Youtheory.

+ Tropical Turmeric Powder ~ Healthy joints and more

+ Vanilla Collagen Powder ~ Healthy hair, skin, and nails

I met Youtheory last month at Expo West and they sent me a bunch of collagen and turmeric supplements to try. I was excited to see that the turmeric powder was flavored with a fruity tropical taste. This sweet-tasting turmeric supplement was great to add to my morning smoothies and more. It made turmeric supplementation an enjoyable experience.

If you have used turmeric powder before, you know all about the sharp taste of turmeric. I used to only use turmeric in savory recipes like Turmeric Cinnamon Roasted Cauliflower. Occasionally, I would drink golden milk turmeric lattes but for the most part, my turmeric powder would go unused. Instead, I would use turmeric capsules for inflammation. So I am glad that I discovered Tropical Turmeric powder from Youtheory.

Youtheory also sent me vanilla flavor collagen. This delicious collagen is great to stir in coffee and into oatmeal. The vanilla collagen gives the overnight oats some amazing skin, hair, and nail benefits. You may not think that you need collagen in your diet but this supplement is beneficial at any age. Collagen is a major structural protein in the human body (found in skin, joints, bones, blood vessels, and connective tissues). As we age, collagen naturally breaks down and diminishes over time – leading to the early signs of aging. Youtheory Collagen Powder is designed to help counteract age-related collagen loss in a delicious powder.

11 Tips To Avoid Injuries While Exercising

Don't let an injury get in the way of exercise. The key is preventing the injury.
I received samples of the mentioned products. This page may contain affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

If you have been exercising or training for some time you probably have experienced an injury or two. The most common sports injuries when you are younger are from falls or over-exertion. When you get older, the list of ways to be injured tends to increase as our body starts to wear out. Getting older does not have to mean more exercise-related injuries if you follow these below fitness tips. Some of the health tips are for the prevention of injuries while others can help you when you do get a fitness-related injury. Prevention of an injury is always best when you are my age as recovery from injury can also slow with age.

I have been running and biking for over 35 years and have had my share of sports-related accidents. When I was younger, I experienced some major bike accidents that left me with bruises and once a broken collar bone. I also was hit by a car while bike riding and ended up with a concussion and some missing teeth. This type of sports injury was one that I had no control over. Then there were the running injuries that were the results of falling and those two may or may not have been preventable. The exercise injuries that I am discussing today are ones that can be prevented with the proper sports gear and with some amazing supplements.

I am also going to share some products and supplements that I have found to be beneficial for preventing fitness injuries. I also have some experience with products and supplements that have helped me after I suffered from a gym-related injury. They say learning from someone else's experiences is always a good thing. So since I have had my share of injuries and I am still very active, I will gladly share what I have learned over the years. I am that person at the gym who likes to exercise at a high-intensity level. I don't let my age get in the way of having fun while exercising. I may be over 50 but I exercise like a twenty-year-old.

Some of the most common exercise-related injuries include

My husband injured his elbow and found relief with an Incrediwear elbow sleeve.

sprains—injuries to ligaments, the tissues that connect bones to one another

muscle strains—injuries to muscles or tendons, the tissues that connect muscles to bones

tendinitis—inflammation of a tendon, often due to overuse

Incrediwear fabric is infused with circulation enhancing semiconductors, Germanium, and Carbon. These elements are activated by your body heat, creating cellular vibrations that dramatically increase blood flow. This increased blood flow delivers more oxygen to the affected area, promoting faster healing while reducing pain and inflammation. As a result, clinical trials have proven an increase in rested blood flow by up to 21.6% and blood speed by up to 22.2%, and recovery can be accelerated by 46%.

muscle tears of the knee—a rip in one of the ligaments that helps stabilize the knee or cartilage that cushions the knee joint

rotator cuff tears—rips in the group of muscles and their tendons that hold the arm in the shoulder socket

dehydration-- when your body loses too much liquid

lung-related injuries-- things like asthma

To avoid getting laid up for days—or even weeks—with an injury, follow these 11 precautions when you work out.

1. Start Slow
Whether you are new to exercise, returning from an exercise break, or starting a new type of fitness, it is always good to start up slow. The risk of injury is increased when you jump to fast into a new exercise program. So start slowly and work up to your fitness goal. If you have never walked more than a block, it is not wise to try to walk 3 miles in one day. Your body will be sore. So whether your goal is to run a 5K or walk a mile, start with a small amount and gradually increase the distance that you go each day. If an exercise class is your form of exercise, start with a beginner's fitness class.

2. Select the right exercise
If you have bad knees than running may not be the sport for you. If you hate water, then don't take up swimming. I think the best exercises to start with are walking and bike riding as these are low impact exercises, so you won't experience a lot of muscle soreness. If you prefer to work out at the gym, then starting with walking on a treadmill or using a cardio machine are good options as well as water aerobics. Then as your body gets used to exercising, you can then try things like running and jump roping. I have taken breaks with my running and have always started with walking when I returned. Then I alternated with walking and running before I ran the whole exercise session.

3. Warm-up
Cold muscles are more injury-prone so make sure to warm-up the muscles before your workout. This helps the blood flow to your muscles and reduces soreness. A warm-up can be simply walking at a slow pace for 3-5 minutes. I like to walk up the hill on my street before I start running. Warming up before your work out is also beneficial for those with asthma as it helps to open up your airways.

I also discovered an amazing supplement that helps open my airways so I can breathe better and exercise with asthma. This natural supplement helps me cough up the mucus that clogs my lungs from my asthma triggers. I discovered ClearLungs Liquid a couple months ago at a health conference and it helped me stop coughing when I was having an asthma attack from the cleaning chemicals that were on the carpet in the expo hall.

4. Stretch
Stretching is always good before and after a workout. I used to be that person who did not have time for stretching but an ankle injury that ended me up in physical therapy told me otherwise. The PT lady told me that stretching is a must for those people over 40. My trainer told me it was best to do small stretches of 10 seconds on each muscle before your fitness routine and 30-second stretches after the exercise session. I learned, last year at a fitness conference, that stretching after a fitness session helps with reducing the visceral fat in your belly.

13 Simple Ways To Sneak In A Workout

5.  Stay hydrated
When you work out, you sweat. While sweating is healthy, you need to start your exercise time with a properly hydrated body and then replenish the lost fluids after your fitness time. If you feel thirsty during your work out time, then drink small sips of water. Water is the best fluid hydration liquid and sports drinks are not necessary unless you are working out for more than an hour or on a hot day. Check out these summer hydration tips. I discovered this delicious drink that has six herbs, electrolytes, and vitamins to hydrate your body. I like that it has turmeric in it as turmeric is great for pain relief.

6. Choose the proper gear
I learned the hard way about not having the right shoes for the right sport. I was wearing trail running shoes and was running on the street. The tread on my running shoe got caught in a small crack in the street and I fell down. The end result was a torn hamstring that put me out of running for several months. I also experienced foot problems from not wearing sports shoes with a proper fit. So head to a sports store that offers advice on what shoes fit best for your feet. Also, make sure to replace fitness shoes as they wear out. Shoes with a worn-out tread can cause foot injuries. Clothes matter when it comes to exercise. Ladies need to support their boobs and everyone should wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move. When working out at the gym or in the heat, less is best so your body does not overheat. In the winter dress in layers when exercising outdoors.

Meet the revolutionary socks that people are obsessed with. Engineered for performance, but perfect for everyday comfort. Feetures are the most comfortable socks that I have worn for running. These cute socks give my feet amazing cushion and I love the way that they hug my feet. These socks offer compression for my feet and I can run better, The socks come in both male and female styles and many sizes so you can get the perfect fit. I also love wearing them to the gym.

7. Lift weights
Having strong muscles will help keep the injuries away. I am not talking big bulky muscles but rather just strength. Lifting simple weights 2-3 times a week or doing things like push-ups will help your body be stronger. Adding collagen to your diet will help keep your joints healthy while giving your muscles some protein to help them recover faster. I love snacking on a delicious greens and chocolate multi-collagen bar after my workout. These bars give me 15 grams of protein, healthy green veggies, and takes care of my daily chocolate cravings.

Multi Collagen Protein gives you support for your skin, nails, joints, and gut with five types of collagen from four food-based sources.

8. Switch it up
Alternating between a couple different exercise programs will not only prevent boredom but will also help your body recover better as you will be using different muscles. I like to run a couple days a week and then alternate with speed walking or using cardio exercise machines at the gym, I also like to bike a couple times a month. It is always best to lift weights every other day as your muscles need to recover.

9. Know when to stop
You never want to work out to the point of pain. If an activity hurts, stop doing it right away. "Playing through pain can often prolong your healing time and take you away from the game or exercise you enjoy," Dr. Berkson says. "Remember to seek the advice of a medical professional whenever pain seems abnormal or is not improving." Get help immediately if you suddenly feel dizziness, shortness of breath, or chest pain. Your body will give you the signals you need to know when to back off. If that knee is feeling a little achy, your soreness lasts for more than the recommended 24 to 48 hours, or you are just plain tired, then it is time to look over your exercise routine. Rest and recovery might be what your body is looking for. Make sure you take those rest days as your body is making actual gains during this time. My recovery days always include extra protein for muscle recovery. If you do get a fitness injury, take the time off from exercise and let it heal. I recently started experiencing muscle soreness in my arm from lifting weights so I took a week off from my weight lifting sessions. That week break along with some Arnicare cream allowed my arm to heal and the soreness was gone.

Huel Bars are a nutritionally complete snack that contains a balanced amount of carbs, proteins, fat, fiber, and all 27 essential vitamins and minerals. Plus, they are vegan, lactose-free, soy-free, gluten-free, low-GI and GMO-free. The chocolate bar is my favorite!

10. Eat smart
What you eat and drink is just as important as your workout. Not only will carbohydrates give you energy for your workout, but they will also replenish those glycogen stores for your recovery and for the next workout. Protein after your workout is just as important as this will help repair those muscles you just broke down. Work with a sports nutritionist to understand when, how much, and what foods you should be eating to keep you healthy and energized for your workouts. I love starting my day with a delicious Pineapple Guava Tropical Protein Smoothie that also supports my skin and hair. Get the recipe HERE.

11. Use the equipment correctly

One mistake a lot of first-time gym attendees make is not learning how to use the gym equipment correctly. I too have made mistakes when using gym equipment like weights and cardio machines. So many machines like the treadmill and the stair stepper look so easy to use but when one does not have the proper form or use the machine as intended by the manufacturer, injuries can occur. These injuries may start out as sore muscles but over time can turn into something worse like a muscle pull or tear. If you are new to a piece of gym equipment or are unsure if you have the proper form on the machine, don't be afraid to ask a gym associate about how to use the exercise machine. You can even lookup a video on the brand's website to get information on how to use the gear.  With all the technology that these cardio machines have, it makes you wonder why there is not a training video on the machines. I also think that gyms should offer group sessions when you first join a gym so you can learn about all the equipment.

Other mistakes that a lot of gym buffs make is wanting to lift heavy weights as they think, the heavier the better. This can lead to muscle injuries or back problems. If you are new to lifting weights, then start out using the weight machines with light weights to get a feel for how you should be lifting the weights. Lifting weights slow controlled motions is always best. Many weight machines have guides on them also. Many gyms also offer training sessions so you can learn how to use the weights. We all want those toned muscles but it takes time and even a small amount of weight is beneficial.

The Best Pineapple Guava Tropical Beauty Drink

Collagen supplements are beneficial for skin and hair improvement. This drink is a delicious tropical way to enjoy your daily collagen.

I received samples from Ancient Nutrition to facilitate this post but all opinions are my own.

I have known about the benefits of collagen for quite some time and have used collagen in the past when I had an ankle injury. My ankle injury happened about four years ago after I over-trained with my running and my then teen accidentally hit my ankle with a shopping cart. My ankle was not broken and I later learned that it was an ankle joint injury that may have happened because of my age-related collagen loss. I recently turned 50 and after my injury, I discovered that as we get older our body starts to lose collagen. Collagen is in so many areas of our body, like skin, hair, nails, and joints. So my loss of collagen may have made my ankle joint weaker and that led to the injury.

So I was able to heal my ankle with the help of collagen supplements and this is one of the best supplements for women over 50. Most ladies over forty don't realize the importance of collagen until they start experiencing things like hair loss, brittle nails, or fine lines. Then there are ladies like me who have their first running injury and realize that collagen and stretching are my best friends. That is if they want to continue to be active and keep running. Since I enjoy running, I know the importance of a daily collagen supplement as it may help with healthy joint recovery after exercise

By the time we reach 40 years old, we will have likely have lost up to 10 to 20 percent of our total body collagen.

So I am always looking for ways to increase my collagen and trying new collagen products. I love adding plain collagen to my daily coffee as it makes my coffee so creamy. I also will add a scoop of unflavored collagen to my daily protein smoothie that I enjoy for breakfast. Sometimes I make myself a delicious Guava Passionfruit beauty drink for an afternoon treat. This Guava beauty drink is made from an amazing collagen drink mix that smells so good. This tropical collagen drink tastes so good when mixed with water. I love that this collagen powder mixes instantly with no blender required. So usually I mix some of the fruity collagen powder in my shaker bottle with water before I head to the gym. When I have more time, I blend the Multi Collagen Protein Beauty Within drink in my blender with pineapple slices and pineapple juice for The Best Pineapple Guava Tropical Beauty Drink. This tropical drink is amazing and so creamy.

I like that a deliciously sweet tropical drink not only keeps my joints healthy but I am discovering that it is helping with my skin too. This natural collagen supplement may be the reason that my skin looks so young. Collagen supports healthy skin elasticity†.  Collagen is included in my post about nine healthy things that I do to keep the wrinkles away.

Collagen is one of the reasons our bodies don’t fall apart. Collagen literally functions to hold you together.

The best way to tell if something like a supplement works is to stop taking it for a couple days.

I was at the gym the other day and as I was checking my phone, I notice that a lady was done with her workout. So I smile at her and said, "quitting time?" She told me that she was almost done and then asked me about my energy sports bracelet. I told her that my bracelet boosted one's energy with the earth’s natural frequency. She asked me if I felt it working and I told her that I felt it did give me energy at the gym. So this conversation led to her saying the best way to tell if something like a supplement works is to stop taking it for a couple days. She told me that she stopped taking her collagen supplement and her knees starting hurting.

Then I got excited as I recently had I started adding collagen back into my diet, about a month ago, and realized that my knees did not hurt when I did my squats. The light bulb had gone off in my head and I also realized that my knees did not make that clicking noise when I walked down the stairs.

Do you experience joint pain in your knees or hear a clicking sound?

This Pineapple Guava Tropical Beauty drink is so easy to make as it only requires a couple of ingredients. The delicious tropical drink starts with a scoop of Ancient Nutrition Multi Collagen Protein Beauty Within drink mix and a can of pineapple slices. You also need a blender and some ice cubes. When I make this yummy beauty collagen drink, I make a large batch because I know that my boys will want some of my tropical beauty drink. Collagen powder is good for everyone so I always share my beauty drink with my boys. This drink is a great way to get some fruit and protein into their bodies. You can also make the full recipe that has two large servings and store the leftovers in the fridge. When you want to drink the leftover drink, just blend it again in the blender to make the drink creamy.

The Best Supplements For Women Over 50

Age is just a number when it comes to getting older. Getting older does not have to mean being tired and having aches and pains. I am proof that you can still enjoy life and have fun after you turn 50. I am proof that you can still look and feel great after the big 50.

I am 54 and I am still in great shape. You might have to make some changes, such as adopting a healthy diet and incorporating exercise into your day, but to me, those things are well worth it, as I want to look and feel good. Over the past couple of years, I have discovered some supplements that have helped me with many things as I age.

I have discovered the best supplements for pain and the best supplements for keeping wrinkles away. I have also discovered supplements that can give me healthy energy and supplements that can help me fall asleep. So I want to share with you the supplements that I take regularly so you too can experience the benefits and not experience the bad things of getting older. Please keep in mind that I am not a doctor, and I am just sharing my experience with these supplements.

Turmeric

One of the first supplements that I discovered a great for us older folks over 50 was turmeric. I discovered this amazing supplement after I had a running injury. This supplement helps with pain and inflammation and is great for our joints. I had injured my ankle joint from running up hills too much and then my son accidentally crashed a shopping cart into my injured ankle. The doctor said it was not broken but my ankle was swollen and in pain.

Through my research about running injuries, I discovered that turmeric could help with pain and inflammation. So, I decided to give it a try as I did not want to continue taking over-the-counter pain medicines. I was amazed that I was able to get some pain relief from the turmeric. I knew the turmeric was working as on the days I forgot to take my turmeric capsules, my ankle would hurt again. I also discovered that turmeric was a great supplement overall for health, so I continued to take this supplement even after my ankle joint healed. I take my daily turmeric in pill form, and I add a couple of teaspoons of turmeric powder to my daily smoothie.

I like taking collagen for many reasons that include my joints, skin, and hair. Collagen was another supplement that I started taking for my injured ankle. This supplement is great for older folks to keep their joints healthy. As we get older, our joints tend to wear out, so collagen is a protein that helps heal them and keep them healthy. Collagen is also a great supplement for runners as running puts a lot of stress on those knee joints.

Collagen is also great for the skin and the hair to keep them healthy. This protein-building supplement keeps my hair thick and healthy, so it is a supplement that may prevent hair thinning. Collagen also helps with the skin’s elasticity, so it may help with keeping the wrinkles away. I will add a powder collagen supplement to coffee daily to keep my joints healthy, so I can keep running.

Astaxanthin

I learned about astaxanthin when I attended my favorite healthy conference in 2016. I was introduced to this heart-healthy supplement as one that could help my endurance when running.

I had just started running again after my ankle injury, and I was not running as fast as I wanted to. I was training for a 5K and I wanted to increase my speed so a brand at the conference informed me about astaxanthin being good for endurance. We older folks know about the slowing down that happens when we get older so I decided to see if this red supplement could help me be able to run for longer distances and give me more speed.

While I was not able to get back to the 7-minute miles of my younger days, I did notice that astaxanthin helped me to be able to push myself with running and I could run for longer times without being out of breath. I take 12 mg of astaxanthin daily.

Matcha Green Tea Powder

A supplement that I like for energy and skin health is matcha green tea powder. This supplement is made from green tea leaves and is an ingredient in those delicious green tea lattes that the coffee places sell. A serving of matcha tea is equal to 10 cups of green tea.

I started using this supplement for some mental energy as it helps me be able to think better. This mild green tea powder is also great for the skin and may give your metabolism a boost. I add a ½ teaspoon of matcha to my daily smoothie to get all these health benefits.

 Greens

Your mom always said to eat your vegetables, and she was right, as those green veggies are great for your health. Eating those leafy green vegetables not only keeps your body healthy, but they have many other benefits that can help as you age. Those green veggies are loaded with antioxidants and minerals.

The problem is that most people have problems eating enough green veggies to reap the benefits, so I recommend adding a green drink supplement to your day. Orgain plant-based protein plus greens is a delicious way to eat your greens as well as protein.

Protein Powder

When I turned 50, I noticed that my arms were starting to get flabby, so I added protein powder to my diet. I follow a vegetarian diet, so drinking a protein smoothie every day has helped me to tone my arms and get my daily protein grams. I also love adding protein powder to many recipes, like my Vegan Chocolate Protein Pancakes. The average older person should consume 55 grams of protein a day, and protein powder helps me reach that amount since I do not eat meat. Check out these recipes that use protein powder.

Coffee

Coffee may not be a supplement, but it is a drink that has many health benefits. Coffee is loaded with antioxidants. Research has shown that it may be good for preventing diseases like Parkinson's or Alzheimer's. Like most things, the key is moderation so two to three cups a day is best. I love my daily two cups of coffee for that way it stimulates my mind so I can get my writing done.

I know some people enjoy coffee for energy but for me, it is a delicious drink that I enjoy relaxing in the morning. I can drink coffee guilt-free, knowing that it has benefits for my mind. I may also consume on occasion a natural energy drink that has caffeine in it when I go running first thing in the morning for some energy. If you are like me and coffee keeps you awake at night, try to drink that last cup of coffee eight hours before bed.

CBD Oil

The supplement that I am still discovering is CBD oil, and I am loving what this supplement has to offer. I mainly use CBD oil for topical pain relief and to help me to relax, but CBD oil has so many more benefits beyond that for older people. Research has shown that CBD oil is great for arthritis and people are still discovering how this safe supplement works. CBD oil is made from the hemp plant and it is still new to most.

No, you will not get high from CBD. I use CBD ointments on my boys when they have muscle pains from sports and growing pains. I have also used the CBD oil drops with my boys after they have a visit to the orthodontist. CBD oil is legal to use, and if you want more information on this supplement, be sure to click HERE to read this article that has lots of great information about CBD oil.

Prebiotic Fiber

Most people have heard about probiotics and how they can help with gut health but most people may not know that good bacteria(probiotics) need food to help them work better. Prebiotics are a special dietary fiber that functions as food for probiotics. This fiber can prevent an unhealthy buildup of bad gut bacteria and lessen the chances of developing gut health-related issues, like weight gain, irritable bowel syndrome, and irregularity. I like to include prebiotics in my day as it keeps my gut healthy and happy. I simply add a scoop of a prebiotic supplement to my morning smoothie or coffee and it feeds the probiotic supplement that I take daily.

The prebiotic that I use contains Oligofructose-Enriched-Inulin, or OEI, which is proven to stimulate good bacteria growth throughout the entire colon, thus optimizing the prebiotic benefits. The benefit that I like best from my prebiotic supplement is how it keeps me regular with healthy fiber. Unlike other fiber supplements, Prebiotin Prebiotic has a mild taste and dissolves into almost any liquid. I love mixing Prebiotin into my coffee as it is not thick and gritty. When I travel, I always bring several travel packs of Prebiotin so I stay regular in the potty department.

 Hair, Skin, and Nails supplement

As we age, our hair may start to thin and our skin may start to get saggy. You may even notice that your nails are breaking more easily. So now is a good time to take a supplement that can help strengthen your hair, skin, and nails. My favorite way to get this supplement is in a great-tasting gummy multivitamin that contains 12 key nutrients, including Biotin and Vitamins C and E to help nourish beautiful hair, skin, and nails from the inside out.

This delicious hair, skin, and nail supplement keeps my hair healthy and I have noticed that less is falling out. The supplement has nutrients in it to help with the body’s production of collagen so which helps my skin look nice. The key ingredient Biotin, is an essential B vitamin that supports healthy metabolism and gorgeous hair, skin, and nails.

This is a list of the supplements that I have added to my daily routine in the past 4 years since I became 50 years old. I do believe that these supplements have helped me to continue to do things that I love like running. I do also contribute my young-looking skin and awesome energy to some of these supplements. I don’t have any of those old people's aches and pains yet, even after I work out. So, try some of these supplements to see if they help you. I am not a doctor; this is just my experience with these supplements, so do some research if you have questions beyond the information that I supplied.

My Favorite Running and Fitness Supplement

The past three years have been a wild fitness adventure for me. Keep reading to discover more.

It is hard to believe that three years ago, I was wearing a walking boot. I had finally gone to the doctor for the pain in my ankle. This pain was caused by my teen accidentally hitting the back of my ankle with a shopping cart and maybe too much running uphill. The X-rays did not show that anything was broken, so the doctor gave me a shot of cortisone and a lovely walking boot that I had to wear for three weeks to see if that would help.

That was a tough three weeks as this massive boot slowed me down, and I was only allowed to walk for short distances. As a runner/walker, that was frustrating. The boot was a temporary fix, as once that came off, the pain returned along with a feeling that something was not right every time I tried to run. So I was frustrated and started doing some research on my ankle problem. That is when I discovered glucosamine. This supplement helped with the pain and inflammation so I was able to fitness walk again. I still was not able to run as the pain would return.

In August of 2015, I discovered collagen. This was the breaking point of my injury as I learned that my injury may have been damaged cartilage in my ankle/joints. So I started taking a collagen supplement and within a month I was able to run again. I continued to take the glucosamine along with the collagen as I was running again and I wanted to keep running. Through my research of collagen, I learned that that as we age we lose collagen, which is why it’s often found in supplements for running. So since I love running and want to be that 80-year-old runner, I will keep taking this supplement along with so I can have healthy cartilage and joints.

I want to say that was the end of my running injuries, but I had two more injuries that were the result of wearing the wrong running shoes. It took two bad falls for me to realize that my trail running shoes were not good to wear when running on pavement. The bottom of my shoes was getting stuck in cracks on the road, and that caused me to fall. The first injury was just a bad abrasion on my leg, and the next one resulted in a hamstring tear. I continued to take my collagen as I knew this supplement would help my injuries heal faster. My torn hamstring healed in six weeks, and I was back to running again.

Over the past two years, I have been using different brands of collagen, mostly the plain/unflavored kind that I had to add to my coffee or smoothie. I even tried the kind that had to be dissolved in hot water and made gelatin squares that never quite tasted that good. So that meant I was limited to when I could take my collagen. So when I discovered a delicious berry-flavored collagen drink, I was over the moon with excitement. This meant that I could enjoy my collagen supplement any time of the day.

This yummy collagen drink was made with Collagen Hydrolysate so all I needed was cold water to make it. The berry flavor of Great Lakes Collagen Endurance was now my favorite refreshing afternoon drink. Since this collagen had the amino acids to make it a complete protein and B vitamins, it was also a great drink to have before I did my afternoon weightlifting exercises with my kettlebells.

I recently added weights into my fitness routine as my teen son hung a pull-up bar in my kitchen and I discovered that I could not even do one pull-up. I also wanted to tone my arms as they have always been jiggly. I have been doing weights three times a week, and having a pair of 5-pound kettlebells makes it easy to do at home. I just put on some music, and before I know it I have done 5-10 minutes of arm toning exercises.

The other day, I was talking to my son about a neighbor, and he said: "She is old." I told him that the neighbor was only a couple of years older than me. I used this opportunity to teach my son that exercise and a healthy diet go a long way. I am thankful for my daily collagen drink that allows me to keep running.
