How Do You Support Athletic Dreams On And Off The Field?

There is potential in every young athlete. Moms & coaches fuel the athlete’s potential by making sure they have everything needed to do their best.

This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/POWERADE

My son/athlete is a runner and runs fast. He participates on the track and field team at his high school. My athlete has not always been the best on his team. Though hard work and encouragement from his mom and coach, he is reaching his dreams of winning. He has discovered that with the right motivation, he can one day reach his goals and dreams. Moms and coaches are a major part of every athlete's dreams.

My son's running started at a young age. I am a runner and my son would enjoy riding in the stroller while I ran every day. At the age of four, my son no longer wanted to ride in the stroller, he wanted to run with me. He started out on a scooter while I went for my daily run. He made that scooter go fast with the power of his legs. He was now leading me and encouraging me to go faster as I had to keep up with him. That scooter led to my son wanting to run. In elementary school, his gym teacher saw the potential in him and encouraged my son to run and enter races. My son enjoyed the thrill of winning and wanted to run more. My son and I would have fun running together. Those days of running lead to my son joining the track team in 6th grade. His coach trained him during the school year and I had the summers. Every morning we would get up early and head to the park to do our laps. By now he was a faster runner than me, so while I was encouraging him to get those miles in, he was motivating me to run faster.

My athlete is now in high school and no longer needs his mom for running. He has a coach to encourage him to reach his potential. That means many hours of practice to reach his goals and dreams of winning. My son knows that lots of sore muscles and sweat are what it takes to be a fast runner. The right shoes are also important as well as proper nutrition. That's a mom's job to make sure he has these as well as cheering him on from the sidelines. I also make sure I buy the right replenishing drinks to keep my athlete hydrated.

My son's preferred drink is Powerade. He loves the taste and knows the power it has to replenish after he sweats. What my son does not know is that Powerade has an ION4® Advanced Electrolyte System which helps replenish four electrolytes lost in sweat: sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. This great tasting drink also is formulated with  vitamins B3, B6 and B12 and a 6% carbohydrate solution to help provide energy to working muscles. I love that Powerade  has been helping keep athletes hydrated for decades. My son loves the many flavors like Mountain BerryBlast®, Fruit Punch, Orange, Grape, and Lemon Lime.

It is definitely important to keep kids hydrated. Adults too. Powerade is great for that and I love the extras it provides.

My grandkids are in a lot of sports related activities and they prefer Powerade as well. I keep a stock of it for when I'm running them here and there for practice.

Well done for your supporting your son/ athlete and encouraging him to follow his dreams. That is what all parents should do.

I think the most we can do is make sure they get there and cheer them on. Team spirit is important.

You did a great job raising your son to be the athlete that he is now. Good job! You are both truly admirable, I'm glad he was able to follow his passion until he got older!

My son likes tennis and swimming now. I try to get him to play more often and give him encouraging words but at the same time, tell him that losing is possible and it just means that there is room for improvement.

I think all kids should be involved in a variety of sports even if it is just to keep them active and healthy

My son is four and just finished his first organized sports league (Basketball). He loved it and we had PowerAde on hand for him during his practices.

I very much agree that, with the right motivation our kids can do wonders in reaching their goals and dreams some day. But we must learn to support them with patience & encourage them. Life is not all about winning, Failures are lessons for success to come.

Seeing this post brought back memories when I used to run track in high school. I remember we used to get the electrolyte drinks after practice, and they were so refreshing.

I am a very supportive Auntie. I love going to my niece and nephews games and cheering them on. I did team snacks once. I wish I would have know to bring an electrolyte drink I brought soda and now I am regretting it!

I never did any high school sports haha but I was a very competitive dancer! My mom was great at supporting what I wanted to do and also let me stop when I started hating it! I never used powerade or anything but I bet it would have helped!
