Celebrate Friday With Fingerlings HUGS #FingerlingsFriday

Meet Fingerlings® HUGS™, the newest soft toy from WowWee!

I received a Fingerlings Hugs to facilitate this post.

Last week was Ferocious Friday and today is Fingerlings Friday. WowWee has been busy making some new fun toys. Their cute interactive monkeys and unicorns were a hot toy last year for many kids. The newest member of Fingerlings is big and soft. These cute monkeys are interactive cuddle monkeys.

They’re softies when it comes to affection!

My boys thought they were too old for stuffed animals but they had a blast checking out one of the newest characters named Bella. I requested the pink monkey because I am going to be a grandma soon to a cute little girl So I thought this cute and cuddly pink monkey would make a great baby gift. Sure my new granddaughter may be too young to play with this Fingerling Plush as they are for ages 2+ but I know the baby will enjoy listening to the cute sounds that the cute monkey makes.

Favorite Fingerlings characters Boris and Bella are now interactive cuddle monkeys.

These adorable monkeys make the cutest sounds when you swing them, pet them or rock them to sleep. When you kiss the monkey, they even kiss back. My boys loved recording their voices on the monkey and hearing Bella repeat it back in funny ways. The fun continued when my boys tossed Bella in the air and she made a silly remix of their voices. I can just see the fun at Christmas when my boys play with the Fingerling Plush and their niece. It is hard to believe that these two are going to be uncles soon. The new Fingerling Hugs are available in Bella (Pink) and Boris (Blue) and are sold at stores nationwide.

Collagen Is The Best Kept Secret To Running When You Are Older

Want to know my secret to running when you are over 50?

I received samples of collagen products from Neocell.

I am always amazed at the fact that I am still running at my age. The even more amazing part is that I have no aches or pains after I run. I hear plenty from my friends over 50 who are no longer able to run as they have knee problems or other body aches. Many of my older friends who used to run are now walking for exercise. If you are a runner and want to keep running as you get older, then start taking a collagen supplement. I discovered the benefits of collagen three years ago when I had a running injury. This injury was not due to old age but rather me overtraining and wearing the wrong shoes. I have since learned the lesson about not buying cheap running shoes and how collagen can keep my joints healthy to prevent running injuries.

Three years ago as my body was healing, I discovered the collagen is great for the joints. Collagen keeps joint cartilage healthy and allows me to keep running. Since collagen is a protein it also helps repair muscles after running. While running is fun, it can also put a strain on my older knees so taking collagen repairs the cartilage in my knees. Once in while I hear my knees clicking so I up my collagen and in a couple of days I no hear the knee clicking.

A delicious way to get my collagen

There are many collagen products out there but one of my favorite ways to get my daily collagen is a delicious pineapple chew. I call these joint bursts my "joint candy!" These yummy chews also have turmeric in them which is another great supplement for us older runners.

As we age our we tend to lose bone mass and recent studies have shown that collagen helps with bone mass. So it is a win/win for me to take a collagen supplement for my joints and bones.

Collagen is also my beauty secret

There are different types of collagen in our body so it only makes sense to have different supplements.  I enjoy a delicious chew for my joints and another delicious chew for my skin. Did you know that our skin has collagen in it? When you give your skin some extra collagen it can rebuild and look nicer. Both of these delicious chews also have hyaluronic acid in them and that equals wonderful hydration. I think of hyaluronic acid as a drink for my skin as it has awesome hydration powers.

Check out more about these delicious collagen supplements as well as other ways to supplement with collagen.

Oil Pulling Made Easy And Delicious With GuruNanda

Have you tried oil pulling?

I received a sample of pulling oil.

Most people have never heard of oil pulling. I found out about oil pulling about a year ago when I discovered a small blister-like bump on my upper gum line. Having had way too much dental work, I was afraid to go to the dentist so I turned to the internet. At first, I thought the small bump on my gums could be an abscess but I since I had no pain or fever, I ruled that out. So I decided to try a natural remedy to try to eliminate the small blister in my mouth. I felt safe trying a home remedy as I had a dental cleaning scheduled later that month. The home remedy that I discovered and tried was called oil pulling. This natural remedy involved swishing coconut oil in your mouth for a period of time as the oil was to pull out toxins. So my thinking was if this bump in my mouth was caused by bacteria than the oil pulling may help. Now, the technique of oil pulling has been around for a long time. In fact, this oral therapy is a type of Ayurvedic medicine [a traditional Indian system] that dates back 3,000 years. Also, I was using coconut oil so how could that hurt me?  I don't quite remember if the oil pulling or just time took care of the small bump in my mouth. All I remember is the nasty taste of swishing coconut oil as I recall I had to swish it for up to 20 minutes. I don't think I was able to swish it for more than five minutes as the taste of coconut oil was not appealing to me.

Better tasting oil means longer swishing!

I decided to give oil pulling another chance when I discovered a Pulling Oil that had a better taste. The pulling oil that I am now using is quite refreshing as it has a nice minty taste so I am able to swish this oil in my mouth way longer. I usually take a swig of the pulling oil as I wash my face and other bedtime activities. Sometimes I will swish the oil in my mouth as I take my shower.

Why do I do oil pulling?

I try to do oil pulling at least once a week as it is a great way to pull the bacteria and plaque out of my mouth so I can prevent gum problems. After my husband had to get dentures from gingivitis, I am very proactive about dental care. The oil is supposed to make the bacteria and plaque stick to it and coconut oil has bacteria-fighting benefits.

GURUNANDA® Pulling Oil is 100% organic, alcohol-free and contains no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors.

How to oil pull

Oil pulling is simple to do. You simply take some of the oil and swish it in your mouth for 2-20 minutes, the longer the better to draw out more gunk from your teeth. Then you spit the oil out and brush your teeth. It is so much easier to do oil pulling when the oil has a nice taste to it. The natural oil that I use is made from a combination of pure sesame oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, and peppermint oil. The peppermint oil makes a big difference in how long I can keep the oil in my mouth. I find that I can do the gentle swishing when I am focusing on something else like showing or washing my face.

Oil pulling gives me a fresh mouth

I am amazed at how fresh and clean my mouth feels after I swish the oil in my mouth. The oil starts out almost clear but when I spit it into the sink it is quite thick and cloudy. To find out more about the benefits of oil pulling, click out the below link.

Salted Chocolate Protein Donut Holes

Check out this healthier donut recipe

I only eat donuts a couple times a year as they are a fried food item and I feel fried foods are not good for healthy eating. So when I discovered that I could make a healthier version of donuts that were baked and not fried, I just had to try them. I do love the taste of a chocolate glazed cake donut and these bite-sized donut holes are a wonderful guilt-free treat. These chocolate donut holes have the taste texture as a cake donut and the flavor is so amazing. Trust me you can't taste the pumpkin. These chocolate gems have protein and vitamin A. Can your fried donut say that? I like that these donuts are dairy-free and gluten-free. I am sure you can probably make them vegan by using an egg substitute but they may not have the same texture. If you have a donut pan than you can make these into donuts instead of donut holes. I do not have a donut pan so I made donut holes and the smaller size means that I will eat less. Since I have been eating a healthier diet, I find that I am satisfied with smaller portions of sweets. You have to make these!

So rich and so much chocolate flavor!

I made two different sizes of the donut holes

I used a mini muffin pan and a brownie bite pan so I could see which one worked best. I loved the size of the mini muffin pan best. If you have a donut pan, you could use that too. If all you have is a muffin pan, then go ahead and use that pan, you may need to add extra cooking time. Whatever pan you use, make sure to fill the sections up to the top as these donuts do not rise.

Bite-size and guilt-free!

I used my favorite vegan protein powder in this recipe so it was dairy-free. This delicious chocolate protein powder is also fermented also that means my family is getting so probiotics too. I also love this brand because it is a lead-free plant-based protein powder, unlike many other brands.

After my family and I enjoyed these delightful treats, I had plenty for later. The batter filled up both of the pans that I used.

Plenty to share!

Salted Chocolate Protein Donut Holes

1 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
3 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup oat flour (rolled oats ground into flour)
3/4 cup sugar
3 scoops Genuine Health fermented vegan proteins, chocolate
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon pink salt (extra for sprinkling some on top before baking)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
2  tablespoons sugar
2  tablespoon cashew or almond milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
2. In a bowl, combine your wet ingredients and whisk thoroughly.
3. Add in your dry ingredients and combine.
4. Using an ice cream scoop or spoon, add batter into your greased mini muffin pan and then sprinkle pink salt on top. Salt always brings out an amazing flavor to chocolate.
5. Bake at 350° F for 10 to 15 minutes or until they  spring back when lightly touched
6. Let cool, and the donuts will lower to a normal size before you pop them out!
7. After cooled, drizzle your glaze on top and store in the fridge. For more flavor sprinkle with more salt and sugar crystals.
Glaze directions:
Combine all ingredients thoroughly and let sit to thicken.
Drizzle on donuts after they have cooled as the coconut oil will want to melt right into the warm donut.

Learning To Be A Merchant Marine Mom

Disclosure: This post was created in partnership with Wind Passion. Regardless, my opinions are honest.

It is official, my son has been accepted into the Merchant Marine Academy! My middle child, number three of five kids, has been away for 6 weeks and life is not quite the same without him. The house has been quiet and our grocery bill has been cut in half. The younger boys miss their older brother and are growing up a bit too fast. I am learning to let them become more independent. Without the teen at home, the boys are learning to stay home by themselves so mom and dad can workout at the gym. The younger boys are also making some money as they are doing yard work for the neighbors that my son used to do. Letting go of my child has been tougher this time around. My older two children left the house many years ago and my second one who is in the Navy has been overseas three times so why this time is different I am not sure. Maybe because the last time the younger two were babies and I did not have time to dwell upon it. This time around I have more time to pray for my child and a simple Unique handmade nautical bracelet has helped me. This stylish bracelet reminds me to not only pray for my son but it also makes me feel proud to be a Merchant Marine mom.

Its a sailors life for me!

I became a military mom when my 2nd child went off to Navy boot camp. It was a new learning experience for me as I did not grow up with any military people in my family. I thought I was prepared for my middle child as he headed off to the Merchant Marine Academy. My son was the Valedictorian of his class and the CO of his NJROTC. My son ran a 4:30 mile in track. So this boy was prepared for what was in store for him. This mom, on the other hand, was not. It was tough to see my son endure plebe week with way too much exercise, way too little sleep, and way too much of being ordered around by the upperclassmen. He survived those two weeks and then started the classwork. I learned that the academy is equivalent to an ivy league school but more vigorous as he had 15 weeks of a class crammed into 12 weeks so he could be on a ship for a year. That meant the coursework of his academics were being done in three years instead of four like a typical college.

My passion is in the wind!

May the sea welcome you as a mother would embrace the return of her children after a long absence.”
― Anthony T. Hincks

I was told to be prepared for his grades to be less than A's as the coursework was tough. I was told to be prepared for a child who may struggle with this new vigorous schedule. So I continued to pray for my son, especially when he asked for prayer the night before his first physics test. I was a proud mom when he told me he got a 96% on that test. My son has shown me that he is not only smart but tough. I was a proud mom when he said that he is handling the schedule quite well and is learning to manage his time.

“Ocean separates lands, not souls..”
― Munia Khan

This mom is learning to relax and let go of child number three as he is becoming a man. I am learning that him eating chips and not getting enough fresh fruit are small things compared to what he is conquering at the academy. He is proving to his mom that he can handle being an adult quite well. The other day a tree branch hit his forehead at cross country practice. He received several stitches but handled all the needed medical paperwork all by himself. My son will do well when he is stationed on a ship far away in the water for several months but will I be able to handle no phone calls or Facebook time? Will I be able to handle not seeing him in all the Merchant Marine Academy photos? I will cherish our time now and spoil him with boxes of healthy snacks through the mail. I will hug him tight when I see him during parents weekend this month. Most importantly I will keep praying for him every time I look at my wrist as see this nautical bracelet. The younger boys even wear one of these corded bracelets so they too can remember that soon they will see their bigger brother soon.

Many might not know that nautical rope bracelets have a long history which spans centuries. Started as a way for sailors to spend time on long journeys, braiding these accessories turned into a chance to show their skill. And the best way to do that was of course to wear it. These cord bracelets were also given as gifts to friends and relatives after returning from the sea.

Gramma In A Box Back To School August Beach Party Treats

Celebrating back-to-school with a delicious Beach Party Treat box from Gramma!

I received a Gramma Box to facilitate this post.

The boys are heading back to school soon and this mom is so excited! The boys are actually excited about going back to school also. They will be attending a brand new K-8 school, one will be in 5th grade and the other 6th. They need to slow down in this growing up thing! We just toured the school and it is quite impressive! Whoever designed the school did a great job with the selection of colors and furniture. We have also been busy buying new clothes and school supplies. So we took a break this Saturday and had a fun time decorating some cookies. We also made some other fun treats. Gramma sent the boys this cool box of ready to decorate treats and made things so easy! With all the stuff we had to do to get ready for school, this mom had no time to bake. So I love when Gramma sends the boys a box. This box was filled with Beach Party Treats and contained everything that my boys needed to make some fun delicious treats.

The monthly Gramma in a Box includes cookies, frosting, and sprinkles

My boys and I had fun checking out the Gramma In A Box! This fun box was filled with baked cookies with frosting and sprinkles as well as two easy candy crafts to make other delicious treats. I loved that the box included step-by-step instructions with illustrations. Also, all the ingredients were packed in small containers so it was easy for my boys to know what they needed for each goodie. All the ingredients were included. All we had to supply was a bowl, a knife, and a spoon.

The instructions were easy to read!

My boys looked at the easy to read cards that even had pictures on them. They were excited to decorate some cookies. I loved that the frosting was ready to use in small bags.

Each box includes three treats!

The box that we received had three treat projects. My boys got to frost fish cookies and decorate them with colorful sprinkles. The next treat was Goldfish Bowls with marshmallows, graham crackers, and Goldfish crackers. The last treat was these pretty Seashell Pretzels.

The best part was the eating!

The boys and I agreed that the best part of cooking is eating the treats and the leftover ingredients. The treats were so delicious and I am glad that the boys shared some with me.

Cookies always taste better when grandma made them!

My boys had so much fun making their own treats. There was plenty of treats to share with dad. I even had fun decorating a cookie with the boys. My boys agreed that this is a box that they would love to receive from their grandma every month. Find out how you can send this delicious box of treats to your grandchildren. Gluten Free Products That I Discovered This Week

Check out what I thought about these gluten-free products!

I received samples of the mentioned products to try and review.

I love checking out healthy products and always have companies wanting to send me their products. Now, I don't always say yes to every company that wants to send me something. I am selective and will only choose ones that sound delicious or have health benefits that I want to learn about. I will also say yes to products that have ingredients in it that I already enjoy. This week I tried three products that are all gluten-free. I did not say yes because they are gluten-free but I like to mention that for my readers who are seeking gluten-free foods. One of the product is even great for the  Ketogenic diet.

A drink that gives energy for the mind and body!

I love turmeric and I am always looking for new ways to enjoy it beyond my morning smoothies and supplements. So when I heard that Wonder Fuel had turmeric in it along with coconut MCT's in it, I was intrigued about the energy for my mind and body. I know very little about MCT's but I wanted to discover this energy. I like that this drink is organic and vegan as I am trying to eat a more plant-based diet. I also like that these are caffeine free so I can enjoy them in the afternoon and not worry about not being able to fall asleep at night. At first, I did not like the taste of these drinks, maybe because I did not read the fine print of enjoying them cold. So I stuck them in my fridge and gave them a second chance as I liked that they had 5 grams of fiber in them along with mind energy. Once they were cold, I tried the drinks again and the taste was much better. The original had some nice notes of vanilla and cardamom in it but also had the taste of coconut water in it. The turmeric tasted of mostly turmeric and coconut water. I am not a fan of coconut water so while these were not my favorite when it comes to taste, I would drink these for the mind fuel. I would drink these in the afternoon when my mind is tired and I need to get things done. I would add these to a fruit smoothie to make the taste for appealing. So if you are a fan of coconut water, then you might enjoy these. These drinks also come in a coffee flavor that I wanted to try but the company did not send me that flavor. Check them out http://wonderfueldrink.com/

The Energy Bar Made From Sesame Seeds

Most people think of hummus when it comes to tahini and don't realize that it is a delicious spread made from sesame seeds. These snack size bars are made from all-natural roasted sesame seeds and were quite tasty. They did have a dry texture that my boys did not care for but I enjoyed these slightly sweet energy bars. The vanilla bars were my favorite and I loved the health benefits of these super seed energy bars. Just look at the health benefits:

Health Benefits - Sesame seeds are an excellent source of copper, manganese, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, molybdenum, and selenium. These translate into a variety of health benefits including cholesterol-lowering phytosterols, heart health, improved blood pressure, hormone balance, as well as cancer-fighting and fat burning properties. Sesame also helps boost nutrient absorption and energy levels, too.

These 100% gluten-free treats are available in three delectable varieties – Cocoa Nibs, Pistachio, and Vanilla. Check them out http://www.absolutelygf.com/

Cookies for the Keto diet!

I love cookies and tend to eat too many so I am always looking for cookies that are healthier. While I am not a fan of the low-carb diet, I eat plenty of healthy carbs, I liked that these cookies have protein in them and were low in sugar. Since I don't eat meat and have been lifting weights, I have been trying to eat more protein. For those that follow the Ketogenic diet, these are cookies that you will enjoy as they are very sweet, a bit too sweet for my taste buds. They were sweetened with erythritol and made with coconut and almond flour. My boys enjoyed these cookies and I think they will be great for my skinny child as they have plenty of fat in them. I really don't know much about the Keto diet but I was surprised that 2 cookies had 24 grams of fat in them, a bit too much for me. These cookies come in four flavors and my boys liked the peanut butter ones best. Check them out https://eatnui.com
