Strawberry Turmeric Muscle Recovery Juice Smoothie

I enjoy this delicious drink after a workout at the gym.

I never thought that I would enjoy visiting the gym. I am a runner by nature as I enjoy that fast-paced workout that gets my heart rate up. Over the years I have heard from many fitness experts that I needed to incorporate weights into my workouts but I just did not make time for lifting weights as I thought it was boring and unnecessary. My body looked fine so why would I want to waste my time with weights? Well fast forward to my 50's, my arms started to get some sag and I knew that it was time to start those dreadful weights. My husband's job just started a free gym membership with their health insurance plan last year and I had no excuse to not give weightlifting a try. At first, I struggled to get to the gym as they meant I had to find the time. Why would I want to spend an hour at the gym when I could go out running for 40 minutes?

So I pushed my self to visit the gym last summer and now 2 years later, I call myself a gym nut. I found the time 2-3 times a week to do those dreadfully slow weights. It was not easy at first but I just put on my headphones and did my weights. I realize how weak my arms and abs were so that got me motivated to lift weights. At first, I just did light 5-pound kettlebell weights and then after a few weeks, I started using the weight machines. I pressed on and was able to lift 30-50 pounds! Then my teen son encouraged me to start using free weights as he said it was great for my core muscles.

I discovered that lifting 20 pounds of free weights in 25 repetitions was harder than using the weight lifting machines. I also discovered that lifting weights is beneficial for my asthma as it helps me get the mucus out of my lungs. My weight lifting routine is now 3 days a week of various arm exercises with the free weights. I am now enjoying the burn of the weights. I am also enjoying how my arms look and feel. Lifting weights has made my arms stronger and I can now even do real pushups. I also think that lifting weights also has helped my endurance and I am running longer distances.

I like premixing my turmeric and strawberry Nuzest Protein Powder in these small bottles so they are ready to mix in my juice.  I simply mix one scoop of protein powder and 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder. The strawberry flavor from the Nuzest protein powder helps the turmeric taste much better. Sure, I could just swallow a turmeric supplement but turmeric powder gives me more of the turmeric benefits. A turmeric capsule only has a small amount of turmeric in it while using turmeric powder in my drink gives me more turmeric. I just grab one container of my pre-mixed powder and a bottle of my favorite juice on the way out the door to the gym. These pre-mixed bottles of protein powder and turmeric make things so much easier when I am having a busy day. The strawberry vegan protein powder has a wonderful fruity taste that I enjoy after my workout at the gym. I love that this plant-based protein powder is also dairy-free and gluten-free. I have discovered that this soy-free protein powder mixes up quickly and has a great taste even when mixed in water.

Turmeric powder gives me more benefits than a turmeric capsule supplement

Do you love my new running skirt? It is so cute and comfy. I even wear when I am not exercising. These skirts come in sizes from xs to xxl and so many cute styles. You need to get one!

1 scoop of strawberry Nuzest + 1 teaspoon turmeric + your favorite juice = a great natural pain reliever drink

On the days that I visit the gym and do weights, my arms sometimes have muscle aches so I make this delicious Refreshing Strawberry Turmeric Muscle Recovery Juice Smoothie as it has been helping with the muscle aches. This fruity drink also has protein in it to help repair and build my muscles. This gym thing must be working as a friend asked me the other day if I workout. When I said "yes!", she mentioned to me that my arms were very toned. I soaked up that comment with happiness and realized that was my goal of the gym, a toned body, not those big muscles like some of the guys I see at the gym.  Did you know that turmeric is great for inflammation and sore muscles? I like to call it my natural pain reliever!

Nuzest vegan protein powder comes in many amazing delicious flavors like strawberry, vanilla, plain, and more. This is a clean protein that is allergy-friendly and also low in carbs so it is keto-friendly. This amazing plant-based protein is also gluten-free and I love using it in so many recipes like pancakes and more.

Check out some recipes that I used this amazing vegan plant-based protein powder in.

Dairy-Free Vegan Chocolate Protein Pancakes

Healthy Low Carb Vegan Paleo Strawberry Frozen Dessert

Dairy-Free Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Bites

Gluten-Free Chocolate Mocha Protein Brownies

1 scoop of strawberry Nuzest + 1 teaspoon turmeric + your favorite juice = a great after the gym muscle recovery drink

Fuel Your Muscles With Fresh N Lean Performance Meals

What we feed our muscles as they recover matters a great deal

I received meals from Fresh N' Lean to facilitate this post.

Many of us pay attention to what we eat before we workout, but what we feed our muscles as they recover matters a great deal. Eating the right foods after exercise can help you recover, build muscle, and prepare for your next workout. Eating meals with protein and other nutrients can make all the difference in our fitness goals.

I took my fitness to a whole new level
I recently decided to step things up with my fitness routine to make my muscles stronger. My teen had been home for summer break from the academy and he inspired me to work harder at the gym. My son is a performance athlete at his school and participates in cross country and track. This boy can run fast and has placed first in many races. So seeing his gym routine made me want to change the way I spent my time at the gym. My son has a lean muscular body and it has helped his performance so I wanted to perform better. While my son was home he gave me some amazing gym advice and it has made a difference not only in my muscle strength but also in my running.

The advice that my son gave me was to stop using the weight machines at the gym and start using more free weights. My son said that it would help with my core and stomach muscles. So I decided to try a new workout routine for three months to see what kind of results I could obtain. I also decided to add some hills to my running routine 3 days a week. It was at the beginning of July, right after I attended a fitness conference, that I decided to change my fitness routine. I visited the gym three days a week and ran five days a week with three of those days going up a long hill near my house.

Protein is good for building muscle
The other thing that I notice when my teen son was home from school was how much he ate and what he ate. My son is a top performer runner at his academy and his coach is doing a great job of training my son. I was amazed that my son was eating so healthy! I was also amazed at how much protein he was consuming. My son is an athlete and he puts in 10-20 miles of running a day and an hour of lifting weights at the gym. So when my son would finish his workout, he would drink a plant-based protein shake and then make his dinner which would be 2 chicken breasts, some type of grain, and veggies. My son knew how to fuel his muscles for performance and muscle recovery.

The dieticians at Fresh n’ Lean, the nation’s largest organic ready-to-eat meal delivery service, understand the importance of feeding your body with the right nutrients for adequate recovery and to maximize the benefits of your workout.

Made for different meal plans
So my son encouraged me to take my fitness to a new level and I then realized that I would have to start eating more protein after my exercise workouts to maximize the benefits of my workout. I also knew that eating more protein and other nutrients would help my muscles recover better after I lifted weights. So I ate more fish and other meatless sources of protein after I pumped the iron at the local gym. I continued to eat my other healthy foods like rainbow roasted veggies and my chocolate mocha protein brownies. I also made my meal preparation easy with a healthy ready to eat meal subscription plan from Fresh N' Lean. I was able to have meals in my fridge that were loaded with protein and other nutrients so when I was busy I could grab a performance meal after I went running or went to the gym.

Fresh N' Lean is allergy-friendly
I enjoyed having fresh organic ready-to-eat meals delivered to my home. What I loved most about these healthy meals, after the awesome flavor, was that I was able to customize my meals to fit my diet plan. I mostly eat plant-based meals but also enjoy seafood once in a while and I have many allergies. I am allergic to dairy, soy, and mushrooms so it was awesome that I could select a plan that had meals that were allergy-friendly. Fresh N' Lean is made for many types of eating styles like Keto, Paleo, vegan, low carb, and even gluten-free. They even have meals that are made for people who are athletic or lift weights.

Heat and eat meals
Fresh N' Lean does all the meal prep so all I had to do was heat the meal up in the microwave. These delicious meals made it easy for me to eat healthy meals when I was busy so I did not have to think about cooking on a day when I was loaded down with work. I liked that I could use that time instead to meet my husband at the gym to do my simple weights. My husband liked that he could eat dinner right away when we got home from the gym. Having healthy food that is ready to eat helps my husband from snacking on junk food.

Healthy food that has awesome flavor
These meals were packed with plenty of protein and lots of delicious veggies. They may have been ready-to-eat but they tasted like home-cooked meals. Even the breakfast oatmeal was so delicious. The meal plan that I selected gave me three meals a day so I had oatmeal for breakfast, a plant-based meal for lunch, and a seafood meal for dinner. If you are a meat-eater, then Fresh N' Lean has meals with steak and chicken.

Dairy-free and full of flavor
Since I had to order dairy-free meals, as I discovered that a dairy allergy was the cause of my asthma, I was expecting bland meals. That was the case with this meal subscription box as the plant-based meals and animal protein meals were dairy-free but filled with lots of flavors. The veggies in the meals made the meals even healthier.

Package in recyclable and BPA-Free materials
The meals were in microwaveable trays that were recyclable and BPA-Free. So that made things very eco-friendly and convenient. The meals arrived with plenty of ice packs to keep them cold. I loved that the ice packs were reusable. I keep these types of ice packs in my freezer so I can use them for grocery shopping and camping. The meals can be stored in the refrigerator for up to ten days and after that in the freezer. I can also select the plan that works best for me and order how many meals I want and whether I want breakfast, lunch, and /or dinner.

Adjust your plan to fit your goals the macro calculator
If you count calories, then you will be happy to know that the calorie info is included on the label of every meal along with the ingredients. Fresh N' Lean even has a macro calculator to make things easier for your busy lifestyle. So there really aren't any excuses when it comes to healthy eating.

Healthy eating made easy for busy people
My past three months of lifting free weights at the gym and eating more protein have transformed my body. My arms have some awesome lean muscles and my core is trimmer. I even lost 10 pounds. The stronger muscles have even helped with my running as I am now able to run for 3 miles without having to take any walking breaks. The weight lifting even helps my asthma as it helps push the gunk out of my lungs.

Healthy After School Snacks That Kids Will Eat

Sponsored post: This post was sponsored by Pretzel Pete and I received samples of other mentioned products.

It seems that my kids are always hungry

If you have kids in school, you know how hungry they can be when they get home from school. My boys are starving when they walk in the door after school and after they take their shoes off they head straight to the refrigerator. I have to stop them in their tracks and remind them to first wash their hands before they eat. Schools can be a breeding place for germs so washing hands helps keep my boys from getting sick. I also use some amazing natural products to keep my kids healthy during the school year, discover them HERE. After my boys wash their hands, they are free to have a healthy snack of their choice. I let my boys choose their own snacks as they are older and they know how to prepare their own snack. I stock the pantry and fridge with healthy food options and rarely have junk food in the house so I don't have to worry about my boys eating too many sweets. We on occasion do have ice cream in the freezer or candy in the pantry and the boys know that they have to ask permission to eat those. I don't forbid junk food, I just don't buy it and the boys can have it on occasion. My boys do a good job of eating nourishing food but do need reminders to eat more fruits and veggies.

Have healthy snacks available

I hear from too many people that they have a hard time not eating junk food like chips, fried foods, and cookies. I like to tell them to not allow the food in the house if it is tempting you. My motto is to buy more fresh food from the farm and less food from the factory. There are plenty of healthy options of food that comes from factories and there is nothing wrong with buying snacks like pretzels, wheat crackers, granola bars, etc. Just try to eat more food like fruits, veggies, nuts, and other plant-based food for a healthy body. I always remind my boys to include a fruit or vegetable and a protein with their snack. So I have snack options available that my boys like so it makes it easier for them to have a healthy snack. My boys have their favorite snacks but I am always introducing them to new healthy snacks Here are some snacks that my boys love to eat for after-school snacks.

Pretzels are the best snack
My boys think that pretzels are the best food for after-school snacks. They love the crunch and the salty flavor of pretzels. Pretzels are made with simple ingredients like wheat flour. When I buy pretzels, I make sure to get ones without preservatives, artificial coloring and trans-fat. My boys like when I buy them the gourmet pretzels and so does my husband. My husband really likes the honey mustard and onion flavored pretzels. So my family was happy when a box of Pretzel Pete pretzels arrived at our house. My boys were excited to try the many different gourmet pretzel flavors. The flavors of the pretzels were unique and sounded so delicious. I really liked that the pretzels are made in a nut-free manufacturing plant so my older daughter who has a peanut allergy can enjoy them when she comes over to visit.

When the Pretzel Pete pretzels arrived, my boys could not wait to try them. My boys liked that there was a cheese pizza mini twist pretzel as they do love pizza. My husband had to try the Honey Mustard & Onion Nuggets. The box contained so many different types and flavors of pretzels. There were mini pretzel twists and pretzel nuggets. I loved that some of the bags were sized for one person and would make portion-control so easy for school lunches.

Pretzel Pete Pretzels come in flavors like cheese pizza, garlic parmesan, smokey barbecue, and salted caramel. These were not your typical store-bought pretzels they were fancy gourmet pretzels. These delicious pretzels were seasoned with delicious flavors that were hot, spicy, salty or sweet.

My husband grabbed a couple bags of the Pretzel Pete pretzels so he could bring them to work for his snack drawer. I am glad that my husband likes to eat healthy snacks. These gourmet pretzels came in flavors that even grownups would enjoy.

I liked that the bags of pretzels had the ingredients and allergens list on them. That way I could enjoy the pretzels that did not contain any dairy. My dairy allergy is not severe so I was ok with the pretzels being produced on shared equipment that also manufactures products with dairy. As long as dairy is not in the ingredients, I could enjoy the pretzels so that meant that I could enjoy the honey mustard and salted caramel pretzels. Enjoy them was what I did. I ate these gourmet pretzels by the handfull. I think the pretzel nuggets were my favorite as they had great crunch in bite-size pieces. The boys and I ate the pretzels for an after-school snack. I like that pretzels are a healthy snack that is ready to eat. When my boys are not enjoying pretzels for their after-school snacks they do have some other snacks that they enjoy and I made a list of them so you can get some ideas for healthy after-school snacks for your kids.

While pretzels seem to be a family favorite for snacks, my boys also other healthy snacks and below is a list of some snacks. The list includes some new healthy and delicious snacks that we recently discovered.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
My boys love their peanut butter sandwiches and love them for snacks. Peanut butter is a healthy source of protein so this a good choice for a snack. If your kids have nut allergies, then this homemade honey sunflower seed butter is a great substitute. My boys love their sandwiches with homemade honey wheat bread and I encourage them to have some apple slices with their sandwich.

If your kids are crazy about peanut butter, they just might love these frozen protein ball snacks from Crazy Richards. My boys love the bite-sized snacks that are made with simple ingredients. I love that these all-natural snacks are dairy-free and mess-free. The peanut butter balls are made with dried fruits, oats, and other delicious ingredients that are plant-based, gluten-free, and non-GMO. They make snacking fun but are also great for school lunches. These frozen protein balls come in three flavors like PB & strawberry, PB & cacao, and cinnamon oatmeal.

Apple nachos
A favorite fall snack that my boys love is apple nachos. You simply drizzle some warm nut butter, that you heat up for a couple of seconds in the microwave, over apple slices. Then sprinkle granola or crushed pretzels on top of the apples. This is a snack that kids can make themselves.

Yogurt parfaits
My boys can always find vanilla yogurt in the fridge and homemade granola in the pantry. So they can easily make a yogurt parfait with fresh or frozen fruit. Sometimes I will add a tablespoon of chia seeds to some yogurt the night before and then stir in some fruit puree the next day for another type of yogurt parfait. When I have time, I make homemade yogurt with an electric blanket. To add some awesome flavor to the yogurt parfait and some powerful omegas, I like to sprinkle flavored hemp hearts on the yogurt. These raw hemp hearts are so delicious on their own too and they are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, omegas, and fiber.

Protein bars
One of my favorite snacks is protein bars and my boys love them too. We recently discovered some delicious Hemp Bars that have 11 grams of protein in them and come in amazing unique flavors like Pumpkin Seed and Spice and lavender pistachio & blueberry. These delicious protein bars are gluten-free and plant-based and loaded with powerful nutrition. So kids can grab one from the pantry when they get home from school.

Hummus and veggies
Hummus is always a great way to get kids to eat more veggies. I always have some type of homemade hummus in the fridge so it is easy to grab for a snack with some raw carrots. It is so easy to make hummus with a can of beans. My favorite flavor of hummus is a spicy carrot hummus. Head over HERE to get my easy recipe.

Bagels that are loaded with protein
When we have greek yogurt in the house the boys love to help me make two-ingredient bagels in the air fryer. These bagels are loaded with protein and can also be made in the oven. My boys love shaping the dough into bagels. We always make a double batch so the boys can have them for snacks all week. These bagels are soft and chewy and taste great with cream cheese or peanut butter. The bagels are also great for sandwiches.

Dried fruit

Dried fruit is another favorite snack that my boys like. I like these portion pack dried fruits from Sunny Fruit as the pouches keep the fruit soft, unlike the ones that come on boxes. My boys got to sample the raisins, figs, and apricots and they loved how moist they were. I love that they are organic and have no added sugar. These snacks are also gluten-free and nut-free and loaded with fiber.

Fruit smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to get more fruit into kids. My boys can use the mixer and make their own fruit smoothie. I always have frozen blueberries or mangos in my freezer. My boys like mixing the frozen fruit with plant-based milk or vegan protein powder. Sometimes they mix up a banana with chocolate milk and peanut butter for a delightful healthy chocolate treat.

Gluten-Free Chocolate Mocha Protein Brownies

My boys are glad that I love to bake. They love when I mix up a batch of healthy brownies that are loaded with protein. These delicious brownies are also gluten-free so you can say yes to chocolate brownies for an after-school snack. These brownies can also be made dairy-free and vegan with vegan chocolate chips and an egg substitute. Other sweet treats that I make into healthy versions with vegan protein powder are Dairy Free Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Bites and Dairy-Free Vegan Chocolate Protein Pancakes.

Healthy cookies

Yes, cookies can be a healthy after-school snack. You just need to use nutritious ingredients like almond butter or homemade honey sunflower seed butter. Adding ingredients like chia seeds and oatmeal makes the cookies nutritious. You can even make the cookies low sugar if you use a natural zero-calorie sweetener that mixes and tastes like sugar. I love dipping these cookies in vegan chocolate chips and sprinkling them with salt for a delightful taste.

Since my boys are wanting to do some cooking on their own, I got them a cookbook that teaches them some basic recipes. These recipes are ones that will help them survive adulthood so they won't starve when they live on their own. My youngest son is excited to make granola by himself and some of the other recipes. This cookbook has some great recipes in it that I even want to make.

The Anti-Cookbook also:
•    Breaks down recipes in an easy to follow format
•    Shows how cooking doesn’t need to be complex
•    Reminds us that food is not only nourishment but a chance to sit around the table, share stories and create memories

These are just some of the healthy after-school snacks that my boys love to eat. Snacking is good for kids and holds them over until dinner. When you replace the junk food in your pantry with healthy snacks, you can feel good about your kids eating a snack after school. These healthy snacks are also great options for school parties and school lunches.

Celebrate National Hair Day With Cloud 10 Hemp Infused Hair Care

Give your hair the best on National Hair Day!

I received samples of  Cloud 10 haircare products to facilitate this post.

National Hair Day is on October 1st and I will be celebrating this day in the shower with some new vegan hair care products. I am going to give my hair the gift of hydration, strength, and shine with some hair care products that are infused with CBD. After I put in some time at the gym, then I will be hanging out in my almost new bathroom with the double-sized shower. I am glad that my husband agreed to four big shelves in the big shower as I love having plenty of space for all the hair care products that I get to try. I need to clear a space on the shower shelf for the Cloud 10 CBD-Infused Hair Care that is arriving a day before national hair day.

My wavy, slightly curly hair is excited to try the first vegan hair system that combines CBD from organic Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract and plant-based PhytoKeratin Plus. I already know how wonderful CBD oil is for natural pain relief and helping me fall asleep. So I am excited to see what CBD can do for my hair. To me, CBD oil is an amazing product that I can't get enough of.

Check out these 12 tips to get a better night of sleep

I like that the shampoo and conditioner are made with vegan ingredients. I recently switched to sulfate-free shampoo products and they have done wonders for my hair. So I now only use vegan shampoo on my hair. The CBD infused haircare set from Cloud 10 has hydrolyzed proteins and plant extracts to revitalize my hair. That way I can have volume, shine, and softness. These vegan hair care products have nutrient-rich ingredients in them that will also help with the dryness and frizz that my hair seems to suffer from. The dry air of the desert doesn't help my hair.

I love that the products are cruelty-free and safe for color-treated hair. Yes, I admit that I color my hair to make it lighter but I am still a true blonde. I recently made the switch to a safe hair color and I am loving the way my hair looks. So I am glad there are great options out there for shampoos and conditioners without parabens and sulfates in them. That way I don't have to put toxic ingredients on my hair or into my body.

The PhytoKeratin Plus in the Cloud 10 CBD-Infused Hair Care is also plant-based and the hemp is organically grown. That way my hair gets wonderful natural ingredients on it that can help with hydration and strength. My dry hair can use all the hydration it can get.

Check out the Cloud 10 Broad Spectrum CBD-Infused formulas

Cloud 10 CBD-Infused Shampoo – Gives hair the revitalization it needs and provides volume, shine, and softness by combining hydrolyzed proteins and plant extracts. Infused with Panax Ginseng Root Extract to deliver strong anti-aging properties to the scalp and Sweet Almond Protein that is perfect for chemically treated or dry hair. This glossing mist is ultra-hydrating, lightweight and will leave you with a soft and silky finish.

Whether you have long, short, curly or straight hair, Cloud 10 CBD-Infused Hair Care is celebrating YOU by offering 20% off all purchases throughout the month of October (10/1- 10/31) with code 20HAIR

I admit that I am excited to wash my hair on October 1st but when you have new hair care products to try out it is a good thing. So I will not be making any plans on Tuesday night as I will be in the shower after I go to the gym. I will have to update this post once I receive the CBD infused hair products and show you how beautiful my hair looks. I can wait to feel my soft smooth hair!

Have you made the switch to sulfate-free shampoo?
