Dairy Free Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Bites

Check out a dairy-free version of a favorite healthy snack. Loaded with chocolate and peanut butter, it will remind you of your favorite candy.

My boys discovered peanut butter bites a couple months ago when I had a coupon for a snack item. The snack item that I bought reminded me of a peanut butter snack that I made as a kid. This is the one that used peanut butter, powdered milk, and honey and was shaped into a log. So I decided to make the recipe with protein powder instead of powdered milk so I could enjoy the snack as I have dairy issues. I can only tolerate dairy only if it has been processed into something like cheese, chocolate, or yogurt. I used to be able to eat ice cream but it seems that lately, that makes me sick to my stomach like fresh and powdered milk does. So using a dairy-free protein powder gave these peanut butter bites the needed ingredient to achieve the texture that I desired. I added pretzels as I think peanut butter tastes great with pretzels. You could also add dairy-free dark chocolate chips if desired for a different taste or dip the bites into melted dairy-free dark chocolate for an even better treat. The bites with chocolate had a wonderful taste as the salt from the pretzels makes the chocolate taste so good. These tasted like peanut butter cups!

Dairy Free Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Bites are

+ Dairy Free
+ Gluten Free
+ Soy Free
+ Plant-Based
+ Delicious
+ Healthy
+ Loaded with Flavor
+ Full of Protein
+ Sweet
+ Salty
+ Easy to Make

The protein powder that I used for this recipe was a plant-based protein made from golden peas. This protein powder is dairy-free and I love using it in my morning smoothies. I used an unsweetened variety but a vanilla flavor could be used also. These delicious bites are so simple to make. My boys enjoyed rolling the peanut butter into the balls. I even dipped some of the balls into melted chocolate. My boys and I agreed that these loaded with protein-healthy peanut butter bites tasted just so good! The pretzels gave the treat a wonderful taste. One bite satisfies the sweet craving that I seem to have in the afternoon. I love that I can indulge in this healthy treat and that my boys are getting some extra protein which is always good for their growing bodies.

Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Bites

Ingredients
  1 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup Nuzest Clean Lean Just Natural Protein powder
  1/4 cup honey
1 cup pretzels, crushed into small pieces

Optional: dairy-free chocolate chips to add to the bites or for melting to dip the bites into.

Combine the peanut butter, protein powder, and honey in a mixing bowl. Add the crushed pretzels and mix in well, I like to use my hands to get them well mixed. Then with clean hands roll the mixture into small balls. Place the balls on a cookie sheet that is lined with a silicone sheet, wax paper, or parchment paper. Chill the peanut butter balls in the fridge for about an hour. Then melt the chocolate and dip the balls into it, coating them well. Place on the cookie sheet and chill in the fridge for an hour or until the chocolate is set.

Hint: To crush the pretzels, just place them in a zipper plastic bag and roll a rolling pin over them. You can also place the pretzels in a large bowl and use a potato masher or glass to crush them.

I am like you. The only way I can tolerate milk is if it's used as an ingredient in other foods. I have not drank a glass of milk since I started school all those years ago.

What a fun and yummy way to get your protein in. I think I would add light caramel drizzle on special occasions.

This looks amazing! I must give these a try. I'll have to pick up some of the protein powder so I can try these. My husband uses protein powder a lot, so I'm sure he'd use this too.
