Positive Thinking For A Healthier New You Plus a Delicious Tropical Coconut Mango Smoothie

  The other day when I was out walking with my kids, I did some about how I can influence my friends who are trying to lose weight or eat healthier. My husband has recently wanted to change and has had a desire to go to the gym more often and eat better. This change came about after a good friend around his age had a heart attack. This friend was of normal weight so that was the wake-up call that my husband needed. My husband realized that his high blood pressure and high cholesterol could lead him to also having a heart attack. My husband is not overweight but he realizes that he needs to exercise and eat healthy so he can lower his blood pressure and cholesterol. I am glad that my husbands only issues are these and not something like having to stop smoking. 

   It was on this walk, that I realized exercising eating healthy is a struggle for my husband. I have been eating healthy and exercising for a long time so it is no longer a struggle for me. So I have been changing my workout schedule to go to the gym with him. I began to think about how I can help my husband enjoy working out and enjoy healthier food. I realized that helping my husband needs to be more positive. I need to stop nagging him and be a positive encourager for him. I think me encouraging him with his food choices and having healthy food in the house is what my husband needs right now. 
 My husband does have a bit of a sweet tooth. I have heard that sugar addictions can be compared to someone needing to light up a cigarette. I have heard some say that sugar withdrawals are almost as bad as someone who is trying to stop smoking. Someone should make a tablet for sugar addictions like Champix

Diets always fail

   Most people associate diets with negative as most diets are all about taking away favorite foods. I think a better way is to not take away favorite foods but rather discovering new healthy food. So one needs to add new healthy foods to their meals instead. Look at the healthy food as an opportunity to try new foods. Treat yourself to new food every week when you go to the store. So have your usual meal but start adding a fruit or vegetable or a whole grain. These healthy foods will help fill you up so you will eat less of the unhealthy food. You might just discover that you like the new food. Need some ideas? Check out these 

Make exercise fun

 My husband hates working out but does it because he knows it is good for him. He will only go to the gym if I do, so I meet him at the gym after work three days a week. He enjoys our time together so that motivates him to go to the gym. At the gym, my husband puts on fast motivating music to make his workout more enjoyable. I think him watching other people exercise helps pass the time for my husband. My husband tells me that he enjoys watching me workout. I think the key to making exercise fun is to do different activities and on days that you just don't want to workout, just go for a walk. I have days that I don't feel like exercising and I always enjoy my walk after I force myself out the door. Fast walking is always a great exercise. They say you should workout three days a week for 30 minutes each time for health and 5 days a week if you want to lose weight. 

I make exercise fun for my younger boys by having them ride their bikes to a place that has cool rocks that they can climb on. I also take my boys swimming and to the park. The trampoline park is their favorite place to exercise.

Don't think about weight loss

 Think about making your body healthy. Don't focus on trying to lose weight instead make exercise and healthy eating a lifestyle. Most people take better care of their cars than their body. Think about how you want this body to be able to function properly instead. Taking care of your body means it will last longer just like taking care of your car. There is no need to weigh yourself either as that scale will only frustrate you. Losing weight takes time and when you focus on that number on the scale, it will only depress you. I stopped weighing myself over five years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I do healthy as I want to feel good and be strong.

Love yourself and your body 

 We all come in different sizes and the focus should be on health, not a body size. I know many skinny people who are out of shape and unhealthy. I know many big people who are healthy. Love your body now. Love yourself to want to feel better. A healthy body does not get out of breath walking upstairs. A healthy body has fewer aches and pains. A healthy body gets sick less. A healthy body means less chance of heart problems or diabetes. A healthy body means having fun with my kids. It is about health, not about having that perfect body to wear a swimsuit. I just love seeing ladies who love their bodies after having kids and proudly take a photo of themselves in a swimsuit. I love ladies who have fun at the park and play with their kids!

Start your day with a positive attitude

  Start your day with loving yourself. Put on clothes that make you smile. Look in the mirror and say "I am beautiful." Have one healthy food for breakfast. It is amazing how doing one healthy thing for you can help you make other positive things. I always start my day with a smoothie that has fruits, greens, and protein powder in it. I like to think of my smoothies as a powerful glass of nutrition. Here is my favorite smoothie.

Tropical Coconut Mango Smoothie

1 cup frozen mango chunks
1 cup coconut or almond milk
2 tablespoons dried coconut flakes
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup ice
2 tablespoons chia seeds

Place all ingredients except chia seeds in a blender. Blend until smooth. Stir in the chia seeds and pour into a glass. This makes one generous serving.


How To Get Most Stains Out Of Clothes

Do you look forward to laundry day?

   I do not like laundry day. To me, laundry is one of those things that you just have to do. I avoid doing laundry all week and only take care of it once a week. I would rather wash several loads all day then do one load a day. I have quickly learned how to delegate some of the laundry chores to my boys. My teen was the person who always started the washing machine but now that he is at the Merchant Marine Academy, I am stuck with the dreadful chore of starting the wash. I would love to hand over that job to the younger boys, as they already fold the clothes, but they would make a mess pouring the detergent into the machine. The boys would also not pretreat the stains on the clothes.  

I think pretreating stains on clothes is the worst part of the laundry. In a perfect world, I would examine every article of clothing and spray them with stain remover but I don't have any desire or time for that. I have better things to do with my time. My family knows the rules 
"if you stain it-you take care of it!" Taking care of it means pretreating the stain or telling mom about the stain.

Timing is everything

    The best way to get a stain out of clothes is to take care of the stain as soon as possible. So my boys know if they have a bloody nose or get spaghetti sauce on their clothes, they hand me the clothes right away so I can take care of the stain. Take care of stains as soon as possible. Fresh stains are much easier to remove than those over 24 hours old.

Cold water is best

When tackling a stain, always start with cold water especially on stains of unknown origin. Hot water can set protein stains like milk, egg or blood, cooking the protein into the fibers. Hot water works best on oily stains like mayonnaise or butter. 

Skip the soap

   Soap may cause some stains to set into the fabric. Reach for a powerful stain remover that is good on almost any stain. Different stains require different ingredients to eliminate them. Science shows that there is no one single ingredient that cleans everything well. I reach for Biz Stain Remover for all the stains on my boy's clothes. Soak away those stains

 My washing machine has a soak setting and I will use it on almost every load. I just add Biz liquid to my usual detergent and let the clothes soak for a least an hour. That way any stains that my boys forgot to tell me about will come out. When I know that the clothes might have extra stains on them or set in stains, I will add Biz Powder to the wash and let it soak for 2-3 hours. This powerful powder did wonders on my daughters old baby clothes and made them like new for my future granddaughter.

My Five Favorite Summer Must Have Running Products

Check out my favorite items for summer running!

These are samples of products that I received over the past year and are ones that I love.
   I have been a runner for quite some time and when summertime hits, I have to change up things in my running game. The hot weather forces me to have to change the time of day that I go running. That means I either go running early morning or late at night. I am not a morning person so it is hard for me to get up early to go running. Waiting to night time to run is not any better as I am too tired to run. So I either force myself to get up or just go running in the heat. Oh, the struggles of summer running! This summer I have been working out at the gym three days a week and running outdoors for two days. I like that I have a free gym membership. I also have been going to the gym more often as I am trying to motivate my husband to workout more.

This has been my typical summer fitness schedule

Monday- elliptical machine at the gym for 40 minutes. 15 minutes of weight machines
Tuesday- run 30 minutes
Wednesday -elliptical machine at the gym for 40 minutes. 15 minutes of weight machines
Thursday- run 30 minutes
Friday- elliptical machine at the gym for 40 minutes. 15 minutes of weight machines
Saturday/ Sunday rest

This summer I have discovered some products that have helped me with running. So in no particular order of preference, I am excited to tell you about my favorite running products.

My go-to supplement for energy!

When I wait until evening to run, I am tired and I need some energy so I reach for this delicious berry flavored Endurance Drink to give a boost of energy. What I like about this supplement is that it gives me great energy without any caffeine. If I have caffeine after 3 PM, I will not be able to sleep. So I just mix up this drink that is loaded with B-vitamins to get some energy for running. This delicious drink also has collagen in it so it helps my muscles too.

The aches of summer running!

   I seem to be getting more muscle aches this summer. Maybe it has something with the heat or the fact I have increased my weights at the gym. I think both as the aches have also been on my knees and I only do arm weights at the gym. I love using CBD Oil Cream for muscle aches as it helps with the aches and pains. I discovered that CBD Oil Cream is great for pain last winter when I had a trigger finger that was stiff and hurt when I moved it. I applied CBD Oil Cream to my finger and it felt better the next day.  I also use CBD Oil Tincture for other pains like headaches. My favorite drink after sweating!

  Once it starts getting hot here, I start drinking an electrolyte drink after I run to replace all that summer sweat. I am picky about what I drink for fluid replenishment as most of these drinks are too thick and salty for my taste. I love the taste of detox water as it comes is some tasty flavor combinations. This detox drink also has aloe vera in it so I am getting the benefits of healthy digestion. My boys also love the taste of detox water and I catch them sneaking sips from my drink.

    I love Turmeric for inflammation!

      On the days I run and do weights at the gym, I drink a delicious Turmeric Drink. This drink has plenty of Turmeric in it and it keeps my muscles from aching. I also take a daily turmeric supplement to keep my old joints healthy so I can continue to run. On days my muscles do get achy, I will take some extra turmeric and that helps with the pain. Turmeric is great for inflammation too!

My favorite protein powder!

  I continue to drink a daily protein smoothie in the summer as the extra protein helps my muscles recover quicker. I usually drink my protein smoothie in the morning as it is a great way to start my day with protein, fruit, and veggies. The extra protein in my diet has helped my body tone up. My boys love when I make Peanut Butter Cup Protein Pancakes for breakfast.

That Crazy Thing Called Sleep And Why We Need It

                       Why we need want sleep so bad!

  I have never been that great of a sleeper. My husband complains that I sleep too light and should be able to sleep through anything like him. It drives me crazy that he never heard the kids cry in the middle of the night when they were babies. Oh, this man also can fall asleep in a matter of minutes. Something I have never been able to do. I am glad I do not have to be up early for a job in the morning as I think I get my best sleep from 6-8 AM. All these sleep problems amount to me struggling most days to get motivated to work. On the rare days, I get plenty of sleep, those are the days that I get most of my writing done.

  So as a sleep-deprived person, I am always trying supplements/ways to fall asleep. I refuse to take prescribed sleep medicines that are habit forming and I reach for ones with natural ingredients that will not harm my body. I tend to rotate my supplements as I have found that supplements that once worked for me no longer work or do the opposite and keep me awake. So when I discover a new sleep supplement that is unique and works in a different way, I am always willing to give it a try. On nights that I have trouble sleeping, I always struggle to get out of bed so energy in the morning is a good thing. Love the shape of the container!

  I really like the sound of falling asleep, staying asleep, and waking up refreshed in the morning. So I took one ORBcapsule an hour before bed, I know the serving size is two capsules but I tend to be sensitive to medicines so I want to see how one performed before I took two. The capsules had tiny purple beadlets suspended in a liquid and were easy to swallow. Since it could take up to an hour for the supplement to work, I then took my shower and had a bedtime snack. My husband says that I should not eat before bed but I am always hungry then and I can not sleep on an empty stomach.

                                 So how did I sleep?

  I went to bed at about 11:59 PM, I am a night owl. I must have dozed off pretty fast as I woke up from a deep about an hour later and I needed to turn from my back to sleep on my side as I was coughing from allergy nasal drip. I must remember to start off on my side when I go to bed as allergies prevent me from sleeping on my back. Once I turned to my side, I fell right back to sleep. I don't remember waking up again in the middle of the night. At about 7 AM in the morning the neighbor's dog started barking so I woke up. The sun was shining and I was ready to get out of bed but I stayed in bed until 8 AM as it was Saturday and I wanted some quiet time with the Lord. When I did get out of bed I did not feel tired and I wanted to get out of bed. The rest of my day went well and I did not feel tired.

 I feel comfortable with taking the ORB Sleep Complex on nights that I am having trouble falling asleep. For now, I will just take one capsule as it worked to help me fall asleep. It is good to know that I can safely take two capsules, if needed, for my sleep problems. Celebrate Shark Week With ALEX DIY Knot-A Shark

 Celebrate 30 years of Shark Week with Discovery Channel!

   Summertime is a perfect time for arts and crafts. It is also a perfect time for sharks! With the   Discovery Channel celebrating 30 years of  Shark Week starting on July 22nd, I thought it would be a perfect time to teach my boys how to make a blanket. My boys loved the idea of climbing into a sharks mouth so this was a cool blanket for them to make. My boys have never made a blanket so I decided to start with an easy tie and knot fleece blanket. The ALEX DIY Knot-A-Shark kit came with everything to make a small blanket that would be a great sit in front of the TV blanket.

  The instructions were easy to follow and they even had pictures. The blanket did require some sewing and the boys needed some help with learning how to sew. The only sewing that the boys knew was how to thread a needle. So I taught them how to sew and I was surprised that they quickly learned how to sew. Learning how to sew is always good. The pre-punched holes made it easy for my boys to sew. They did have some trouble in knowing which side to start sewing on and they quickly discover that the end knot needed to be on the other side of the fabric. So mom had to pull the thread out a couple of times.

  The older of the two boys had the patience to sew but the younger boy did not like how long it took to sew the blanket. This was definitely a craft project that would take a couple weeks, maybe months for my boys to complete as they learned that sewing takes time. I wished that the shark blanket came with fabric glue so my boys could just glue the eyes, mouth, and fins on. The knotting part would be easy for my boys but the sewing part would take time. For now, the shark blanket will be a project that mom will have to help with as my boys discovered that they do not enjoy sewing.

Get Your Greens In A Vegan Orange Mango Smoothie

A delicious way to eat those leafy greens!

  I love my morning smoothies. They are a great way to get 2-3 servings of fruits and veggies into my day. I also make my smoothies with protein powder so my smoothie is a complete meal. When I eat 15- 20 grams of protein in the morning this keeps me satisfied so I am not snacking all morning. I also recently discovered that we ladies need more protein as we get older to prevent the dreadful muscle sag that tends to happen in our arms. More protein in my diet, exercise, healthy eating, and simple weightlifting is what keeps my arms and the rest of my body looking good. This Vegan Orange Mango smoothie has plenty of flavor in it so you can not taste the spinach. It is a delicious way to get some healthy greens into your diet. I also add an avocado to the smoothie for some healthy fats. I love the taste of avocados and can eat them by themselves as they as so creamy.

  I added healthy protein smoothies to my diet three years ago when I turned 50 and was not happy with the way my body was looking. The weight was creeping on and my arms were flabby. It was then that I discovered that my body was lacking protein. In a couple of months, my body started to tone up. I eat a meatless diet and I was not consuming the protein that my body needed. A smoothie is just one of many ways to Get More Protein Without Eating Meat. My morning smoothie also fills me up with plenty of nutrition and the protein keeps me satisfied all morning so I do not snack on on cookies. Another smoothie that I am enjoying is an Energizing Berry Beet Smoothie that I make with a concentrated beet powder that is so incredibly sweet so it makes my smoothie so delicious and healthy.

 This delicious smoothie is also dairy free which is a plus for me. I have always had dairy issues with the lactose but I am cutting out dairy from my diet to see if my seasonal allergies get better. This year I have had a lot of asthmatic coughing and my allergy medicines are not working as well. So I will be eliminating dairy from diet to see if that helps.

Vegan Orange Mango Smoothie

1 orange, peeled and separated into pieces
1 cup frozen mango chunks
A handful of fresh spinach
1/2 avocado
1 scoop vegan vanilla protein powder
1 cup water

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Makes one serving.

Energizing Berry Beet Smoothie With Powerful Immunity Support

   My favorite color is purple and any food that is purple has got my attention. Maybe that is why I love beets as they are purple but they are also delicious. Add superfood nutrition to smoothies and more!

  My delicious Energizing Berry Beet Smoothie also has some powerful immunity support. I add Acai Fruit powder for vitamin C, iron, and calcium. This powder also adds additional purple color. I love sneaking this purple fruit powder in my boy's yogurt, oatmeal, and smoothies for added immune and digestion support. Another superfood powder that I like using is Red Reishi. I like to add it to my soups in the winter for added immunity.

Energizing Berry Beet Smoothie

1 cup water
1 tablespoon BareOrganics Beet Root Powder
1 tablespoon BareOrganics A├žai Fruit Powder
1 cup frozen berries, like strawberries, blueberries, or mixed berries
1 scoop vanilla protein powder, I like this Brand 


Place all ingredients into a blender.
Blend until smooth. Serves one.
