Summertime Adventures With Baby Jogger & Graco

While I may be a grandma, it seems like yesterday that my two youngest boys were toddlers. I have pushed many strollers and buckled many kids into car seats.

I received samples from Graco to facilitate this post

My website name says it all Mom Knows Best. I am a mom to 5 children and a grandma to 2 girls. I have been raising kids for 31 years. I still have two kids left in the house for another 7+ years, so I am still in the kid-raising years. My oldest daughter is 31 years and my youngest boys are 13 and 14. Then I have 2 more sons, ages 21 and 27.

I also have earned the grandma badge with my cute granddaughters, ages 10 months and 34 months. So I have many years of mom advice to share. I love that my grandbabies live nearby and I can see them often. So when opportunities for reviewing toys and baby gear arise, I have the grandchildren to spoil and they make the cutest models for my website. My daughter does not seem to mind one bit when these cute girls are featured on my website as she loves that her mom can help her get the best baby equipment.

So when I had a chance to check out a stroller and car seat, I of course said yes. The Baby Jogger City Mini® 2 and Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat were perfect for the next stage of transporting 2 little ones around town. The youngest grandbaby was ready to move to a bigger car seat and the almost three years old granddaughter was happy to have more freedom with walking around the neighborhood with mom. So this grandma was ready for some summer adventures with her grandkids.

Baby Jogger City Mini® 2 Review

My oldest boys are teens but that does not mean that I don't have experience with pushing a stroller. My teens are 16 months apart so it was like I had twins. I remember starting out with a double stroller that allowed them both to be seated. As the boys got older, the double stroller became too clunky for long walks. So I switch to a single stroller with a standing board so the older of the two boys could have the freedom to walk more. The standing board was great for the times he was tired of walking. I did not let kids get in the way of my fitness and I know that I always did plenty of research with my stroller purchases.

Fitness tips for stay at home moms

So when the Baby Jogger City Mini® 2 arrived at my house, I had a chance to check it out before I took a walk with my grandbabies. Even my youngest teen son had fun checking out this awesome stroller. This was a grandma/mom-approved stroller! The Baby Jogger was the perfect stroller for active moms. This is a stroller that I would have selected when my boys were younger as it had so many awesome stroller features. This was a stroller that my daughter could use with both of her girls.

What I loved about the Baby Jogger City Mini® 2

+ Lightweight ~ The stroller literally glides on any surface and is a pleasure to push

+ Can operate one-handed ~ I love that I can push the stroller with one hand

+ One-hand folding ~ Just pull a strap in the seat and it folds completely with one hand

+ Modern, sleek design ~ This stroller looks so fancy

+ Super comfortable ~ The padding is so soft

+ Roomy Basket ~ I love the size of the basket and it can hold lots of baby stuff. I also love that the basket can be accessed at both the front and back of the stroller

+ Big canopy ~ This will keep the sun off the baby

+ Adjustable seat in many positions ~ The seat adjusting clip allows you to customize the seat recline from flat to upright in many angles

+ Can be used for 2 kids ~ With an optional glider board, a second child can catch a ride on the stroller.

What I disliked Baby Jogger City Mini® 2

+ No parent tray ~ I would have loved a place to stash my drink or keys

+ No kid tray ~ A place for kid snacks would be nice to have

The Baby Jogger had so many nice features that I liked and I could not wait to take my grandbabies for a walk. So I scheduled a grandma playdate and took the grandchildren for a walk around the neighborhood. The youngest baby looked so comfortable in the stroller. The older grandchild was happy to walk. My daughter will be buying the optional glider board for the stroller. So the older child can catch a ride when she is tired of walking.

When we had to cross the street, I loved that I could hold the older child's hand and push the stroller with the other hand. While the Baby Jogger did not have a place for my water bottle on the stroller handle, it did have a pouch on the back. The peek-a-boo-window was nice so could check on the baby.

I really loved how easy this stroller was to fold. All I had to do was pull a strap, that was located in the seat. I was able to hold the baby in one hand and fold the stroller with the other. The stroller folded completely and it was so light to hold. The stroller folded to a compact size that would fit in most car trunks.

4 Summer Fitness Items That You Need To Try

Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat Review

My teen boys graduated out of car seats three years ago. It is hard to believe that three years ago my sons were in booster seats. Now they are taller than me. Car seats are a must for babies, toddlers, and up to about 12 years old. As a grandma, I want the best car seats for my grandbabies. So they are safe when traveling in a car. The Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat is a pretty amazing car seat and has features that are so much different from when my boys were in convertible car seats.

What I loved about the Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat

+ Can be used from birth to 100 pounds ~ So you only need to buy one car seat, as this can be used rear-facing to a high-back booster.

+ Printed directions on the seat ~ That show how to install the car seat in different positions.

+ Slim design ~ That means three seats can fit across the backseat of a car.

+ Rapid Remove Cover ~ The car seat cover removes in 60 seconds for cleaning without having to remove the harness and is machine washable.

No-Rethread Simply Safe Adjust™ Harness System ~ Allows you to adjust the height of the headrest and harness to 10 positions with just one motion for just the right fit.

+ Comfortable custom fit ~ Removable, plush head, and body inserts for infants.

+ Awesome protection ~ Steel-reinforced frame provides strength and durability for 10 years of use, and EPS energy-absorbing foam provides effective impact energy management.

What I disliked about the Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat

+ I could not find any dislikes ~ This was a car seat that I loved

The Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat was a car seat that I loved. My youngest grandbaby was currently in a Graco infant car seat but is ready to move up to a convertible rear-facing car seat. I loved that the Graco Slimfit3 can be used from birth all the way to school age. This car seat easily converts from rear-facing all the way to a high-back booster seat and it made to last for 10 years. So the parent only has to buy one car seat for their baby.

The slim design was another feature that I loved about this car seat. So if my daughter had another baby, she could fit three of the Graco Slimfit3 in the back seat of her car. So no need for them to buy a bigger car. Then there were the safety features of this car seat. This Graco car seat had so many features to protect my grandbaby. From the soft head inserts all the way to the steel-reinforced frame, Graco designed this to meet all the safety standards.

The best part of the Graco car seat that I loved was how easy it is to clean the chair. I remember when my kids had a blow-out diaper in their car seat and how much of a pain it was to clean the car seat. I had to remove all the straps to wash the car seat and then try to figure out how to put the car seat back together. The Rapid Remove Cover removes in 60 seconds for cleaning without having to remove the harness and is machine washable. That is super smart and it is about time that someone made a car seat that is easy to clean!

Simple ways to squeeze exercise into your day

What is your favorite feature of the Graco SlimFit3™ LX 3-in-1 Car Seat or the Baby Jogger City Mini® 2?

Sandbox Fun With Playmobil Sand Toys

I received toys from Playmobil to facilitate this post.

My daughter and her husband have purchased their first home and will be moving in soon. Their new home has a nice size backyard so their will be plenty of room for backyard toys. My granddaughter is a lucky kid as she will get all my boy's old backyard toys. It will be sad to see the play toys leave my yard as that means my boys are getting old but at the same time, I now have a whole yard to decorate with new items. I have been working hard to get all the weeds out of my yard with some new natural weed prevention methods as I will not spray my yard with toxic weed sprays made by Monsanto, the maker of Roundup. So my granddaughter will get many outdoor toys like a slide and sandbox. So I am thinking that my grandchild needs so new sandbox toys

Did you know that the PLAYMOBIL brand has sand toys?

My boys grew up with Playmobil toys and they were so much fun. My boys had some great imaginative play with the Playmobil sets. So when I saw that Playmobil has a line of sand toys, I knew that I had to check them out. These sand toys would be perfect for the sandbox once the baby gets bigger. Last time we took the baby to the park she decided to taste the sand but being that she will have her first birthday soon that is typical for her age. My grandbaby will be getting some other toys for her first birthday and the Playmobil toys will be put aside until she is older. The Playmobile Sand line toys are recommended for ages 2 and up.

 Ice Cream Shop Bucket

The Ice Cream Bucket sand toy is so cute and I can't wait to play in the sandbox with my granddaughter. This grandma will have so much fun scooping ice cream cones with my grandbaby. I love that the sand toys store inside a cute bucket that looks like an ice cream shop. The colors of this set are my favorite colors. The sand play elements include a sieve, spoon, ice cream cones, and ice cream scoops. The sand toy comes with two Playmobile people and those are the only small parts to the toy so my daughter can put those pieces aside until the baby is two years old. This adorable ice cream sand toy could also be used for water play so I am thinking the sandbox could be used as a pool. Then the baby can start playing ice cream shop with me this summer.

Water Tank Truck

Every child needs a truck or two and the Playmobile Water Tank Truck is perfect for both sand play and pushing around the backyard. This durable sandbox toy has a removable tank that can be filled with water so it can also be used as a watering can. I love that the sand truck comes with ramps that store on the truck. The truck also comes with a person. The wheels on the backyard truck can drive over sand with no problem. My granddaughter has a cousin that is close in age so this truck will be perfect for backyard playtime. This sandbox truck will be perfect in the sandbox and driving in the grass. I can't wait to see her dad teaching her how to make truck sounds on the imaginative beach construction site. It is so exciting to think about my boys having fun playing with their niece with their old favorite outdoor toys and the new Playmobile Sand toys.

Which Playmobile sand toy is your favorite?

The Best Gifts For Babys First Birthday

Looking for a gift for baby's first birthday? Check out the gifts that are my favorites for my soon-to-be one-year-old grandbaby.

I received toys and books to facilitate this post.

It is hard to believe that my first grandchild is going to be celebrating her first birthday in a couple of months. It seems like yesterday that the baby was born and I wrote about becoming a grandma for the first time. My granddaughter is growing up too quickly. I wish that I could stop time and keep her little but that is not going to happen. So I will enjoy her and look forward to more grandbabies. I will also remember the day she was born, every time I snuggle with my soft sherpa photo blanket. Maybe that is why I have five kids all spread out in ages so I will be able to enjoy lots of grandchildren.

This little girl brings such joy to our family and I am lucky that my daughter and son-in-law live nearby. That way I can see her often. Her uncles sure do enjoy holding her and talking to her. I think one of the best parts of being a grandma is being able to spoil my grandchild. So just like Christmas, this cute little girl is going to get lots of presents. Maybe she won't chew on her birthday presents like she did at Christmas. Since I have five kids and my youngest is 11 years old, I have plenty of experience in buying baby toys and I like to buy unique baby gifts for baby's first birthday. Some of my favorite baby toy brands are LeapFrog and Vtech as these toys are so cute. These brands of toys are always The Best Educational & Fun Gifts For Babies & Toddlers. So I love buying age-appropriate toys from these learning brands of toys. Check out some of the toys that my grandbaby will be receiving for her first birthday.

Toys for first steps

My grandbaby is learning to walk so I will be giving her a Vtech Stroll & Discover Activity Walker™ for her first birthday. This walker grows with her and can be enjoyed for many years. Mom will love that the activity walker can be used for floor play and those first steps. Once the baby masters walking she will still enjoy pushing the walker around the house. This activity walker has so many buttons to press and I love that it has two speeds on it so the walker will not move to fast while the baby is learning to walk. The activity panel is removable from the walker so the parents can take it with for those long car trips. That way my grandbaby can press buttons and spin gears while in the car. This learning toy even has a removable cell phone so the baby can pretend to call grandma. You can find this toy that teaches colors and numbers at all major retailers.

Easy to assemble

I decided to help the parents out and assemble the activity walker for them. It was super easy to put together and I did not need any tools.

Keeping baby happy in the stroller

I remember when my kids were little and how once they learned to walk they never wanted to be in the stroller. Our daily walks became frustrating until I learned how to keep them entertained in the stroller. Moms need these daily walks for exercise and for some Me time so I got my grandbaby a Butterfly Counting Pal™ learning toy. This plush learning toy attaches to the stroller and keeps baby entertained so mom can go for a walk. This cute colorful toy also helps the baby fall asleep with soft, classical melodies. There are so many fun things on-the-go activity toy that baby can rattle, squeak, turn, or crinkle all while developing her fine motor skills and learning things like numbers and colors. This learning toy is available now at all major retailers

Books are always awesome

Books always make great gifts at any age. Books help kids learn so much and the gift of books for baby's first birthday will help them enjoy reading. Reading to babies will help them later on when they are learning to read. I read to all my kids when they were babies and they knew how to read by first grade. My daughter loved books when she was a baby and I remember her 2nd birthday when grandma gave her some books. The books were the first gift that she opened. My daughter had to look at every book before she would open the rest of her presents.

So I discovered these cute books for my granddaughter that are about space and the ocean. These adorable picture books are a fun way to introduce the smallest readers to STEM subjects. Nerdy Babies: Ocean and  Nerdy Babies: Space invites toddlers to travel to the bottom of the ocean, or in the far reaches of the solar systems to answer questions like...How deep is the ocean? What does it sound like in space? The author, Emmy Kastner, is a former teacher and fully understands how important it is to present science as fun at an early age. I just love the bright colorful pictures in the books and I know that my grandbaby will enjoy looking at them while her mom reads to her.

Making Valentines Day Goodies With Gramma In A Box

Check out this month of goodies in the Gramma in a Box

My boys are always happy to see the familiar red box that comes in the mailbox every month. The boys know that this is their monthly box of sweet treats that they get to make all by themselves. My boys can't wait to open up the box and tear through the red polka dot tissue paper to see what food crafts Gramma has made for them this month. I love that Gramma in a Box does all the work of gathering up all the supplies and puts just enough frosting and sprinkles in the box so I don't end up with leftovers that sit in my fridge for months. Having just the right amount of frosting also means that my kids don't eat too many sweets.

Cute Valentines treats to create in no time

I love that Gramma thinks of the projects for my boys and does the shopping for me. I try so hard to create those items that I see on Pinterest but it never seems to happen. I pin plenty of creative treat recipes every month with good intentions to make them but time gets away from me and I always forget to buy the ingredients. So this monthly make it box allows my boys to make treats for the holidays. This month's box of sweets was Valentines Day themed. Every box always contains three recipes for my boys to make and I love that step-by-step instruction with pictures are always included. When I saw the candy canes in the box, I said to the boys that Gramma is a smart shopper. I love that she repurposed holiday candy canes into a Valentine's Day craft.

I love that she repurposed holiday candy canes

My favorite recipe craft in the red box is always the cookies. I love frosted sugar cookies and ones made into cute shapes like hearts taste even better. My boys know to put lots of frosting and sprinkles on a cookie for me to enjoy. The other crafts in the box always involve melted chocolate. The boys are a pro with melting the chocolate melts in the microwave. They know to never lick the spoon that they are using to stir the chocolate with. I once did just that and the water made the chocolate turn into a bunch of unuseable crumbs. I love my chocolate and I hate to see it go to waste.

Candy hearts are my favorite Valentine candy

There was candy hearts in the yummy box of make and eat treats this month. I tried sneaking one but my boys would not let me. They said that I had to wait until they made the treat with them. Do you like reading the sayings on the candy hearts? I remember as a kid and how I would enjoy reading the messages on those delicious candy hearts. That reminds me, I need to go buy a bag of Valentine's candy hearts from the store. I like the big hearts the best.

Monthly subscription box filled with cookies and candy treats

This monthly subscription box is filled with plenty of fun items like cookies, candy, frosting, and sprinkles so kids can make some delicious treats. Each box makes plenty of treats so my boys can share them with others. Each month the box has a different theme. Last month my boys had a blast dressing up in clothes that matched the cookie box theme. You have to go check out how cute my boys looked while making their treats- click HERE to see what the theme was.

The boxes are making my boys excited about cooking

These delicious monthly boxes are inspiring my boys to want to be in the kitchen more. Every weekend, my boys want to help me with cooking and baking. Last week my son helped make healthy pancakes for breakfast and it was so cool to see my husband show him how to tell when to flip the pancakes over. I think my son is ready to make pancakes on his own and maybe I will get breakfast in bed on Mother's Day.

Baby Products That I Am Loving This Month

I love being a grandma!

I was sent products from Oilogic and Robeez to facilitate this post

I love that my daughter and her husband live in the same town. That means that this grandma gets to see her cute grandbaby more often. I remember when she was born last year in another state and how hard it was to only be able to spend one day with her after she was born. I also remember heading back to the airport and trying to figure out when I could fly out to Vegas to visit them again. I am so glad that God made things happen and they were able to move back to Albuquerque last November. That means not only do I get to spoil that cute baby but it also means that I can introduce amazing healthy products to my daughter. My younger boys also love being uncles. This grandma also got to celebrate the baby's first Christmas and spoiled her with tons of gifts like these cute baby shoes from Robeez. More about the baby shoes later in the post. I think my granddaughter's favorite Christmas gift was the newspaper.

Roll-on essential oils to the rescue

The baby has been an easy baby for the new parents so far and my daughter and son-in-law have been doing a great job adjusting to parenthood. Last month the baby started having some troubles with sleep and it was then that her mom discovered that she has sensitive skin. My daughter decided to try some baby lotion with lavender in it and the baby broke out it a rash. At first, my daughter thought it may have been the carrots or the lotion that gave that cute baby girl a rash but after discontinuing the baby lotion, the rash went away. The baby also started sleeping better. So while my daughter was disappointed that she could not use the lavender lotion anymore, she was glad that it was not the carrots. My daughter has been careful with what she feeds the baby as my daughter has plenty of food allergies including peanuts. So I told my daughter to start using essential oils like lavender in the oil diffuser that I gave her to help the baby sleep. The problem with diffusers is having to fill them up with water every night and that can be a pain when you are holding a baby. So I was glad to discover roll-on essential oils that are made for babies. Since Oilogic essential oils do not contain toxic chemicals, there is no worry about skin rashes on the baby. The oils are diluted 100% Pure Essential Oil solutions that are ready to use topically on your baby as early as 3 months+. Baby safe products are always good for kids with sensitive skin. I tried the Slumber & Sleep Essential Oil Roll-On on my son's neck and it did not irritate his sensitive skin. To be on the safe side, I told my daughter to rub the roll-on essential oils on the baby's clothes or sheets.

Clean, Natural and Free of…
petroleum - phthalates - parabens - sulfates - gluten - dyes - mineral oil - artificial colors - synthetic perfumes

I love the carry case that can be tossed into a diaper bag

A well baby is a happy baby

These amazing oilogic oils come in a set that also includes essential oils for colds and tummy problems. The baby has not had any colds or tummy problems thus far but my daughter will be prepared. I think the essential oils are great for aromatherapy too and I love the way the smell. I am glad that they make essential oil roll-ons for adults too. So I am prepared for allergy season with the Adult Wellness Essential Oil Roll-On Bundle.

Essential oils help me sleep too!

I have troubles sleeping and have many things that help me fall asleep but I am loving how easy it is to roll on the Rest & Sleep essential oil on my neck before bed. I breathe in the natural fragrance and it helps me to relax to fall asleep. My youngest son was having an asthmatic cough the other night so I rub the Cough & Cold formula on his chest and the essential oils soothed his cough so he was able to fall asleep. These essential oil care products are the perfect size for my purse or pocket!

Baby's First Shoes & First Christmas

Robeez sent me two pairs of the cutest baby shoes ever. I remember my youngest boys wearing these shoes when they were babies but the ones that they wore had animals on them. Robeez are my favorite baby shoes as they stay on, unlike those cute baby socks. These shoes have soft soles and are also perfect for baby's first steps. I love how easy these adorable baby shoes are to put on. My granddaughter has small feet so she was only able to wear the silver baby shoes. The ones with the flowers will be perfect for her first Easter. The selection of shoes that Robeez has for both boys and girls is amazing. I am thinking that my grandbaby needs another pair or two of shoes as a girl can never have enough shoes. This baby girl has the cutest clothes and she needs matching shoes.

Enjoy homemade treats without having to bake

My boys have expressed an interest in cooking and baking so I am teaching them more. I would love to see them be able to bake cookies or make dinner without my help as these are life skills that they need to learn. So I am starting to teach them more and let them be in the kitchen more. That is hard for me as that also means a messy kitchen. Sure I am teaching them how to clean up after they cook but they don't seem to clean like me. So, I have to take deep breaths and put aside my control freak behavior and realize that they are learning. To do this, I sit in the family room which is right next to the kitchen and let my boys do simple recipes like things in the microwave. I have learned that teaching the boys how to cook has some advantages as I can have them make me a cup of tea. I love that they know how to safely turn on and off the stove to use the tea kettle!

During winter break my boys had a blast helping me bake cookies. They really enjoyed pressing the cookie cutters into the sugar dough. The most fun came with decorating the cookies. By the time we were done with the cookies, the kitchen was a mess. I really don't like cleaning so baking with the boys only happens once in a while. I know I should bake more with them but time gets in the way or we don't have the ingredients in the house. So I am happy when my boys get a Gramma Box in the mail. That way they can make sweet treats all on their own with very little mess.

The monthly Gramma in a Box includes cookies, frosting, & sprinkles

So when our monthly box of cookie and candy projects arrived, I decided to let the boys create the treats all by themselves. I gave them a couple of instructions like they had to clean up their mess and they had to share the treats with me. The boys were excited to make the treats this month as the theme was football and New Year related.

The instructions were easy to read!

The boxes from Gramma always include easy to read instructions with pictures of how the treats should look. I love that all the ingredients are individually packed in small containers so my boys know which ones to use for which recipe. The monthly treat boxes always have three treat projects and one is always cookie decorating. This month's cookies were shaped like footballs and the frosting colors were blue, white, and yellow. There was also plenty of sprinkles to decorate with.

Gramma always shares the ingredients

I like that all the ingredients for each treat project are listed on the back of the recipe card along with what allergens are present. Thankfully my boys do not have food allergies but this information is good for me as I have a dairy allergy. My boys have learned to read food labels as they don't want to see me coughing. I only discovered my dairy allergy 6 months ago and I sometimes sneak treats that have dairy in them thinking that I will be ok but I always regret it later when I am having a coughing attack. My husband always chews me when I start coughing and asks me if I had dairy. So he has put the boys in charge of not letting me have treats with dairy in them. So by letting the boys make the treats on their own, they will only offer me the treats that are safe for me.

The sweet treats always look amazing

The recipes in this sweet treat cookie box are always kid-friendly and only require a microwave to melt the chocolate. The projects are also so simple that my boys can make the treats look so amazing. This is the fourth box that we have received in the mail. My boys always get excited when the monthly Gramma Box arrives and look forward to a day of cooking/baking. Each month the box of goodies is a different theme. The last box we made was filled with Thanksgiving cookies and the box before had beach shaped cookies. My boys had a blast with the emoji cookies and they always wonder what next months theme will be. Sure some might say that these boxes are not filled with healthy food but I say as long as you are eating healthy foods 80% of the time then sweets are perfectly fine for kids. I am not going to be that mom that bans sweets but I am going to teach my boys about healthy food. I am also going to be the grandma that bakes cookies with my grandkids. My grandbaby is still too young for cookies as she just started on baby food.

Gramma in a Box Thanksgiving Sweet Projects

Celebrating fall with a delicious Thanksgiving from Gramma!

The temperatures have become cooler here. The mornings are chilly but it warms up enough in the afternoon for a nice outdoor run. With the holidays coming up, I have been quite busy with my website so it has been hard to find time with the boys. So I love when Gramma sends a box of goodies so I can create some sweet treats with my boys. The best part is everything that we need to decorate cookies and make some fun treats is in the box. I am glad that Gramma put this awesome box together so I can have some quality time with my boys that require no running to the store to get the ingredients so we can make cookies. I don't have to make a mess in the kitchen and we can get to the fun part of making cookies, the decorating and eating! My boys and I sure do love making cookies.

The monthly Gramma in a Box includes cookies, frosting, and sprinkles

This months box of treats was perfect for fall and Thanksgiving. I knew that the treats were going to taste so delicious, as this is the third box that the boys have received. Previous boxes that the boys made goodies with were a fun emoji cookie box and an ocean-themed treat box. I think the best part of these delicious sweet activity boxes is the yummy cookies that come in them. These cookies also come with three colors of ready to use frosting tubes so the boys can get to the fun right away. The treat boxes come with all the ingredients that we need to make three treats and they are all individually packaged in small containers. The recipe cards are easy for my boys to follow and they could make the treats without my help but I always join in on the fun as I like making cookies with them.

Plenty of treats to share

There is always plenty of delicious treats so after the boys make the goodies, they share them with mom and dad. The boys and I agree that the best part of making cookies is the eating. My youngest loves to eat all the leftover frosting. The Gramma Boxes are always a great way to spend some time with my boys.
