Natural Homemade Honey Sunflower Seed Butter

This delicious honey sunflower seed butter is great for those with peanut allergies!

My twenty-six-year-old daughter is allergic to peanuts and all tree nuts. The weird thing is she ate peanut butter sandwiches all the time when she was younger. It was a couple of years ago that she discovered her nut allergy. She had attended a party and enjoyed a brownie that contained peanut butter. She started to have an asthma attack, so she thought, and reached for her inhaler. She took her asthma medication and waited for it to work. When it was not working, my daughter then took some Benadryl, as her asthma is caused by seasonal allergies. The Benadryl worked and my daughter thought nothing of that attack until a couple of days later when she was eating a cake that contained peanut butter. She had another "asthma attack" and thought that maybe the peanut butter was the cause. My daughter stayed away from peanut butter and scheduled an allergy test. The allergy test confirmed that she was allergic to peanuts and all tree nuts. My daughter was doomed as she had to give up peanut butter. That meant no more peanut butter sandwiches.

I had my daughter in mind when I created this homemade Honey Sunflower Seed Butter. My daughter discovered sunflower seed butter at the natural food store and buys it once in a while for a splurge, as it is expensive. I wanted to make her a homemade Sunflower Seed butter that would taste just as good, if not better, and save her money. Being that I also have a powerful Ninja blender, my daughter does not, I set out to make my daughter some delicious Honey Sunflower Seed Butter. I wanted this spread to be all natural and taste like my daughters old favorite honey peanut butter. So I used this delicious 100% raw and unfiltered honey in my sunflower seed butter. Rice's Lucky Clover Honey gives my sunflower seed butter a great taste. My boys also love to use this honey in their oatmeal, hot tea, and on yogurt too as it gives incredible taste.

The bees do a great job collecting the nectar from a variety of flower blossoms from 100% USA bee farms. The bees then deliver the nectar to the hives and work their magic so the bee collectors can collect the honeycombs. The honey is spun & extracted from the honeycombs. The sweet delicious honey has been prepared and bottled in Greenly Colorado since 1924. You can then buy this 100% pure & raw unfiltered honey at places like Walmart, Whole Foods, Costco, and many more retailers. Rice’s Lucky Clover Honey is committed to producing high quality, premium, raw, and unfiltered honey at affordable prices.

Natural Homemade Honey Sunflower Seed Butter

Yields about 1 cup

         INGREDIENTS

3 cups roasted unsalted sunflower seeds
          1/4 tsp  salt
          1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 tbs Rice’s Lucky Clover Honey

    INSTRUCTIONS

Process the sunflower seeds in a high-speed blender (love my Ninja) for a total of 10-15 minutes, stopping every 2 to 3 minutes or so to break down the clumped-up mixture and scrape the sides a bit. If you don't have a high-speed blender it might take up to 25- 30 minutes using a regular blender.

After about 5 minutes, the seeds should start releasing their oil and the butter will finally relax and become creamy. From this point, you will want to let it run for 5 to 10 minutes until really smooth and creamy.
Now add the salt, vanilla extract, and honey and process for another minute. Transfer this delicious butter to a tightly sealed glass jar and store in the fridge.

"These opinions are my own and I received a sample of Rice’s Lucky Clover Honey to facilitate this post."

  12. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's condition and with what happened but I'm happy because of two things. First is, you were able to do your sweet part by capturing the taste of her old favorite taste and secondly, I learned something good for my own!
