My family loves soft pretzels so I decided to make pretzel dogs for dinner. I am trying to use up food that has been in my freezer for a while and there was hot dogs in there that no one was eating. My family does not like hot dogs that much so I had to be creative to get them to eat them. The idea for pretzel dogs came to me one day when I was making soft pretzels and needed to also make dinner. My family enjoyed the pretzel dogs and now I have a way to use up the hot dogs in the freezer. I used this recipe to make my pretzel dough which I made in my bread machine. It was easy to roll out the dough and roll around the hot dog.
Then I placed them on a pan and sprinkled with salt. I then baked the pretzel dogs and they looked wonderful.
My family enjoyed them and my 6 year old said "this is the best dinner I ever had!"
The recipe is easy to make.

I then place the hot dogs is a baking soda solution for a couple of minutes.

2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons baking soda

While dough is rising, prepare a baking soda water bath with 2 cups warm water and 2 Tbsp baking soda. Be certain to stir often. After dough has risen, pinch off bits of dough and roll into a long rope* (about 1/2 inch or less thick) and shape. Dip pretzel in soda solution and place on greased baking sheet. Allow pretzels to rise again. Sprinkle with salt and Bake in 450 degrees F oven for about 10 minutes or until golden.
