My Dishwasher Problem And How I Solved It!

My dishwasher started acting up yesterday. It would fill up with a little water and then drain, it kept doing this over and over. I bought this dishwasher over a year ago and it was 9 days past the warranty. I was determined to solve this problem and fix it. So after doing some research on Google I ended up on Samsung's(my dishwasher brand) live chat. The chat person told me it was a low level water problem. He told me to run the dishwasher empty and if that did not solve the problem get back on chat. I tried that and it did not solve them problem. I looked at the owners handbook  and the next step was a service call. Well, being the dishwasher was 9 days past the warranty, I did not want to pay for that. So I googled some more and came upon a post that said the floater gets gunked up. The floater is a part on the bottom of the dishwasher that controls sensors that control the water. So I poured a bottle of vinegar in the dishwasher and let it sit there for several hours. I then poured a kettle of boiling water in the bottom of the dishwasher and let it sit there for thirty minutes. After draining the dishwasher it worked again. The vinegar and hot water broke up the gunk. I was overjoyed I did not have to pay for a service call. I don't understand why Samsung did not share this info with me, maybe they don't know this trick. I did some more research and found out it s good to clean your dishwasher every month. Now they do sell products to do that but, the vinegar and hot water did the same thing for me. So every month I will pour a couple of cups of vinegar in the bottom of my dishwasher and let it sit there for several hours followed by hot water to keep my dishwasher clean. I have also read that you put a cup of vinegar in an empty dishwasher followed by a hot dishwasher cycle will also work.

I am not having a problem with my dishwasher but I think I will do this just to clean out any buildup. Thanks

Vinegar is such an amazing solution to so many issues!! That is such a bummer it was acting up 9 days after warranty-that always happens to me!

my dishwasher always gets clogged in the jets, it is so hard to clean those out, and then I have spotted dishes! I am going to try running vinegar through it, maybe it will break up the clogs! thanks for the idea.

This is an amazing idea, thanks for sharing! I had a similar problem with my dishwasher. However, I do not think that you can use vinegar and didn't even really check what's wrong in there. I just gave it to dishwasher repair, and they fixed it fast enough. Maybe I could save if I was as resourceful as you.
