How To Create The Perfect Home Gym In A Garage

More and more people are realizing how healthy and beneficial exercising is. What’s more, an increasing number of people have found interest in building their own gym at home, and the most common space for that is the garage. If you and your family don’t use the garage that often and if it doesn’t have a real purpose, then it’s time to turn it into a cozy place for exercising. Commercial gyms are not as trendy as they used to be, since they can get crowded and expensive, and the next best thing is having your own gym to accommodate all of your needs. So, if you want to get started on building your gym at the garage, here is how.

Start Cleaning It Out

The very first step should be opening up the space for all the gym equipment. If you have stored a lot of unused clothes, toys, and other items in the garage, it’s time to get them out. You can easily donate all those old items you don’t need anymore or organize a garage sale. Then, you can rearrange a few things in there if you still need storage space, and dedicate a nice portion of the garage for a smaller gym. On the other hand, if you need the whole garage for the gym, clear everything out and start from there.

See If Improvements are Needed

If you haven’t used the garage that often in the past, you might want to go around and inspect if it needs improvement. Check the walls for moisture, see if you need to update the flooring, and check the ventilation. You want your new home gym to be properly ventilated and isolated, so you have to come up with some solutions. It is advisable you insulate your garage so it can stay moisture free and usable during the colder days too. You might want to consider using insulation 24 inches wide since it is the best solution and it can provide extra protection from other elements. Once that is done, you can figure out if you’re going to install an AC inside for the hot summer days, or you’re going to add ventilation so the moisture can be removed with ease.

Think About Equipment

The equipment you will buy will solely depend on your needs. If you have kids and you want to all work out as a family, it is a good idea to get some toys and props for children or designate a safe area in the gym where they can safely do their own exercises and have fun. Also, if you love gym machines, you can easily find second-hand treadmills, stairs, and bicycles and arrange them in the garage if the space allows it. Otherwise, you can get smaller bar racks and plenty of dumbbells which make a versatile prop for dozens of exercises. Additionally, consider getting enough storage bins or other organization items where you can store all the equipment; especially if you plan on using the garage for its other properties.

Think About the Design

The design of your new home gym will also depend on your preferences. If the garage is attached to the house, you can easily remove the doors and the whole wall if possible and install sliding doors. This way, you will feel as if the gym is actually in your home and you can easily access it when needed. Another option is creating a multi-purpose space and divide it into different areas. One area can be for stretching, while the other one can be just for the weights. This way, you are visually creating exercising stations for yourself and everything will stay neat and tidy.

Having your own home gym is so much better than wasting time and money on a commercial gym. The garage makes a perfect place for a home gym, and you can easily get started in there and reach your fitness goals with ease, and at the comfort of your home.
