A Week Away Musical Series is Perfect For Young Adults

A Week Away: The Series is A Fun Musical For Young Adults That Sheds Humor on Church Camp while also sharing a passionate story about a young man’s individual struggle to reconcile faith with his traumatic past.

Many thanks to Angel for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100%my own.

If you did not grow up in a family that went to church, it can be tough to start attending church as a teenager. It can be even tougher to understand those from the church when you come from a traumatic past.

The Series: A Week Away is a series that I immediately could relate to just by watching the first 5 minutes of the show. This series is about a young man, from a troubled family, who is invited to attend a church camp. The young man, who grew up in a family with alcoholic parents, thinks that the kids and leaders who attend the Christian camp are weird people. He also has a hard time accepting that God can be real.

My life story is similar to the main character in A Week Away

Like the main character in the series, I grew up in a family with an alcoholic dad. I also experienced the death of my brother at age 12. I simply grew up in a home where love was not present.

So when I was invited to a Young Life group in high school, I thought that these people were strange. I had a hard time accepting that they wanted to be my friends. I had a hard time accepting not only their unconditional love, but also the fact that there was a God out there who loved me. How can God be real in a cruel world?

About the Film A Week Away

THIS MUSICAL SERIES follows a group of teens as they embark on a summer at Camp Aweegaway, a Christian camp filled with adventure, friendships, and unexpected self-discovery.  It’s an expressive and resonant story about identity, trust, and the courage to face what’s within. A Week Away: The Series offers a tender space for those burdened by doubt and pain to explore the possibility of hope and the power of a found family.

The story follows a defiant foster teen who is dragged to church camp, determined to resist what he sees as the hollow promises of faith. But rejection gives way to introspection, and the walls he’s built begin to crack. As he discovers he’s not alone in the struggle against grief, anger, and the ache of belonging, he learns that healing can’t be forced— it must be chosen.

A Week Away: The Series is fun and engaging, safe for family viewing, and honors faith-based principles without being a ‘lesson in Christianity.’

A Fun Musical For Young Adults That Sheds Humor on Church Camp

For those who remember attending church camp, this is a series that you will enjoy watching. It may help you relive the fun of summer camp, or it may bring back memories of when you thought the leaders of church camp were weird people.

A Week Away: The Series had me reliving my teenage years, when I was struggling with doubt that there was true, unconditional love coming from people who wanted to share the love of God with someone, like me, who did not know what pure love is.

The music of this musical may be corny, but this musical brings humor to the faith struggle that some people can relate to when they first discovered church people. If you have been walking with Jesus for quite some time, this show will help you remember your journey that led you to saying "yes" to the Christian faith.

I attended summer camp and I had a crush on a boy there who looked like Ralph Macchio from The Karate Kid. This was back when The Karate Kid was popular.

I don't have any funny stories. But I attended horse riding camp through the girl scout program. I enjoyed riding. Everyone had a nickname they were assigned, mine was Trailmix.

This sounds like a lovely and heartwarming movie to watch. I went to a few summer camps when I was a kid, just during the day. It was nice to meet other kids and do a variety of activities.

I went to church camp when I was 17. The first night, all the girls in my cabin, including me, laughed and told secrets and got to know each other. We painted each other’s nails and put rollers in our hair. It was great! The problem was, we were supposed to be sitting around a campfire singing Christian songs and praying. It set the stage for the rest of the week.

I never got to go to any kind of camp. I was a very shy child.

I attended summer camp for the first time and I was in a group where it was everyone's first time as well. One funny moment was when all of us tried to put up a tent but ended up trapped inside it like a giant balloon lol we didn't want anyone else to know that we didn't know how to actually put up a tent.

I never attended summer camp. The closest I came was going camping with my neighbor friend in her family's camper! A funny moment -- there were rides at the one camp ground and we went on a very tame roller coaster. I was deadly afraid of roller coasters as a kid but this thing just went around in a circle with barely any hills. I screamed bloody murder thru the entire 2 minute ride. Later, I heard people talking about who was that maniac screaming thru that ride, and I was just shaking my head like yeah what's up with that?
