Your water supply may be legally compliant, but that doesn’t mean it’s free of harmful chemicals such as microplastics and forever chemicals (PFAs). Learn about the difference between legal and safe drinking water.
World Water Monitoring Day is on September 18th, 2025, and it is the perfect day to learn about what is in your water.
Many people know that the water coming from their tap may not be safe to drink, but that may only be due to the chlorine that is in the water. Then there are folks like me, who believe that the water that comes from their city water supply is safe to drink. The report from the city's municipal water department shows that the water meets water quality standards.
The sad truth is that Municipal water supplies are only required to meet significantly outdated water quality standards, which have not been updated in almost 20 years. As a result, “legal” by definition does not necessarily equal safety.
World Water Monitoring Day Opened My Eyes On Safe Drinking Water
I recently learned about World Water Monitoring Day through a Dr. Gundy podcast that I watched. Dr. Gundy interviews Helen Christoni, Senior Vice President at AquaTru, in this podcast about Dangerous Contaminants Hiding in Your Water. What I learned about drinking water standards shocked me,
Helen Christoni, a water quality expert with over 20 years of experience, shared great information about the difference between legal and safe drinking water. She also helped me compare the quality of the water that came out of my faucet with the report on my city's website, to the www.ewg.org water database. By doing so, I discovered that 16 contaminants exceed current health guidelines, including 594x the health limits for arsenic, 130x the health limits for trihalomethanes, and 49x the health limits for chromium. I thought my tap water was safe to drink.

3 out of 4 U.S. Homes Have Unsafe Tap Water
Your tap water is not as safe as you think. Millions of people across the country unknowingly drink water containing chemicals that have long-term, negative effects on their bodies, health, and well-being. American tap water can contain over 270 different dangerous contaminants.
Most people, including myself, believe that using the refrigerator water filter or buying plastic bottles of water is the way to have safe drinking water. While the water filter in the fridge may make the water taste better, it does not remove the dangerous chemicals.
If you think buying bottled water is better, do your research. The water in those plastic bottles of water mostly comes from another state's tap water system and may, at most, go through a water filter like the one in your fridge. Don't get me started about the plastics leaching into the water in the plastic bottle or the damage the so-called recycled bottles are doing to our environment.

AquaTru Countertop Purifier Technology
There is a better way to have clean drinking water, and discovering a countertop purifier from AquaTru helped me make the switch from tap water to a reverse osmosis water treatment system.
For many years, I have thought about installing a reverse osmosis system under my sink, but my husband always vetoed the idea for many reasons. He remembered the difficult process of installing a reverse osmosis system in our church kitchen. My husband was also concerned about the cost of the replacement filters.
After experiencing health problems from mold exposure in our home and struggling to regain my health, my husband is starting to see the need for a reverse osmosis system. My husband is realizing that buying air purifiers and a home infrared sauna is helping me with my recovery. He is seeing how my use of my infrared sauna is helping to reduce my asthma symptoms.
The AquaTru Carafe makes water purification simple. This 4-stage Ultra Reverse Osmosis® filtration looks nice on my countertop and is so easy to use. I love that this system uses a glass carafe. The best part is that no installation or plumbing is required to filter the water.
The countertop purifier uses AquaTru’s revolutionary Ultra Reverse Osmosis® Technology. This system works by recirculating the water and concentrating contaminants in the tap water tank, which means more water is filtered and less water is wasted.
Other Benefits of the AquaTru Carafe
~ Long Lasting Filters - See information below
~ Affordable Filters - Filter replacement cost is around $75 per year
~ Glass Carafe - Made from strong, durable borosilicate glass and designed for easy pouring. With a 64-oz holding capacity, its compact design also fits easily in your fridge.
~ Easy To Use Control Panel - Mission control. Indicator lights let you know when to change your filters or conduct product care maintenance.
~ Top Water Tank - Built-in handle makes it easy to empty and refill your tap water tank with ease.
~ Proven by Science - AquaTru is rigorously tested and certified by IAPMO to NSF standards, proven to remove 84 harmful contaminants from your tap water.
About the AquaTru Carafe Filters
~ Step 1 & 2: Pre/Carbon Filter - A mechanical Pre-Filter captures larger particles like sediment and rust, while a Carbon Filter removes chlorine and chloramines for cleaner, better-tasting water. Lasts 6 months for consistent, high-quality filtration.
~ Stage 3: Reverse Osmosis Purification - An ultra-fine R.O. filter eliminates harmful inorganic chemicals, including lead, chromium-6, arsenic, nitrates, and heavy metals. Lasts 2 years for continuous, advanced purification.
~ Stage 4: VOC Carbon Filtration - A coconut shell carbon block filter reduces volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including rocket fuel, prescription drug residue, and “forever chemicals” (PFOS & PFOA)—leaving you with pure, great-tasting water. Lasts 1 year for superior contaminant reduction.

Once you know the truth about the chemicals in your water, you will want to take action. Invest in your health with a reverse osmosis system that is proven to remove 84 harmful contaminants from your water.
For me, the math was simple when making a decision on using the AquaTru Carafe. While I received the unit in exchange for this post, I considered the cost of replacement filters.
~ A two-year combo pack of filters costs $149 - I was paying $120 a year for my fridge water filters, that was only removing a couple of chemicals from my water.
~ It is only $6.25 a month - for clean drinking water using the AquaTru Carafe.

Our tap water is safe here in Texas, but I know in some areas it might not be. I'm glad there's something that makes the water clean to drink!
