Keep Momming

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Shire. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

The relationship that exists between mothers and daughters is unlike any other. It has many unique moments, memories, and yes, even challenges along the way. The relationship dynamic can be even trickier when your daughter is in those tween-age years. What can be even more difficult is when some people dismiss certain behaviors as “typical tween girl behavior” when those behaviors can be symptoms of something more serious. Research suggests that girls are more likely than boys to report having mostly inattentive Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Since inattentive symptoms can be less noticeable than hyperactive and impulsive symptoms, it is important that moms know what to look for.

I’m proud to be joining forces with Shire, CHADD and Holly Robinson Peete to announce the launch of keep momming, a new public service initiative geared towards the moms of tween girls to raise awareness of ADHD.

The campaign is anchored within a new digital hub, KeepMomming.com, where you’ll find tips, tools and other go-to resources for moms, including a checklist to help recognize the symptoms of ADHD – inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity – and then encourages moms to talk to their daughter’s doctor. The keep momming initiative can help moms learn about ADHD and provide ideas on how to spark a conversation and stay connected with their tween.

Ragamuffin: Based on the Life of Rich Mullins! A Must See DVD And A Giveaway.

I was sent this wonderful DVD about the life of Rich Mullins. Many of you may know Rich Mullins for his song "Awesome God" the one that goes:
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

The DVD Ragamuffin is based on the life of Rich Mullins. The DVD tells about how he rose to Christian fame and fortune only to walk away from it and live on a Navajo reservation. I found this movie to be very interesting and I found out a lot about Rich Mullins that I enjoyed learning. Rich Mullins was one of the first christian artist that I listen to when I became a christian. I enjoy his music very much to this day. My husband and I enjoyed watching this movie and then we passed our copy along to another person in our church with the instructions that when he finished watching it, he was to pass it along to someone else to enjoy with the same instructions. We want others to enjoy this powerful DVD.

Here is some information about the movie and Rich Mullins:

RAGAMUFFIN is based on the life of Rich Mullins, a musical prodigy who rose to Christian music fame and fortune only to walk away to live on a Navajo reservation.  An artistic genius, raised on a tree farm in Indiana by a callous father, Rich wrestled all of his life with the brokenness and crippling insecurity born of his childhood. A lover of Jesus and a rebel in the church, Rich refused to let his struggles with his own darkness tear him away from a God he was determined to love. As he struggled with success in Nashville and depression in Wichita, Rich desired most of all to live a life of honest and reckless faith among a culture of religion and conformity

Singer and songwriter Richard Wayne “Rich” Mullins was best known for his worship song “Awesome God” which has been embraced as modern classics by many Christians. His music has been covered by many artists, including Caedmon’s Call, Amy Grant, Jars of Clay, Michael W. Smith, Third Day, John Tesh, and Hillsong United.

Mullins’ musical career formally began with Zion Ministries in the late 1970s, where he wrote music and performed with a band called Zion. Mullins first solo hit, “Awesome God,” appeared on his third album and brought his music to a wider audience. Rich Mullins was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Gospel Music Association (GMA) on April 29, 2014.

I encourage you to buy this DVD not only for yourself but also one to give away to a Rich Mullins fan. Click on the below link to purchase this wonderful DVD.

Rainbow Bandz Loom Refill Pack Review

Do your kids love to create those bracelets with those color bands? My boys sure do and I have discovered a great refill pack that contains 5400 color bands in 9 different colors. The Rainbow Bandz Loom Refill pack is an awesome kit that contains 9 individual packs of color bands. Each pack is a different color and has 600 latex free bands in each one. These elastic bands are 100% compatible with other loom brands. I love that they are non toxic, lead free and latex free. Each pack of bands also has clips and a hook in it, so that means you will get 9 hooks and many clips.

This Rainbow Bandz Loom refill will provide your child with a great hands on activity that will boost their creativity. These color bands will teach your kids important skills like focusing on tasks and following directions. The process of deciding color combinations and patterns will stimulate their brain.  You can use these bands with or without a loom to create wonderful things like bracelets, rings, and more.

Here are some of the items my boys made, as you can see some are more complex than others. My boys do not have a loom but they still had fun creating bracelets with the color bands. My 7 year old made the complex ones as his friends showed him how to make them, while my 6 year old had no instruction. My 6 year old still had fun making some simple bracelets. These wonderful bands keep my sons busy for a long time.

We recently had to go to the urgent care with my 14 year old son for an arm injury. an My sons brought along their Rainbow Bandz color bands to keep them busy. They simply put the materials in a container with a lid and they had something to do while bigger brother got x-rays on his arm. A 2 hour visit to the urgent care went by quickly with this color band activity.

My boys are having so much fun with the Rainbow Bandz Loom Refill Pack. I am going to purchase a loom so they can make more items with these color bands. This is a great boredom buster activity for children, especially on hot summer days.

You can purchase this wonderful Rainbow Bandz Loom Refill Pack that contains 5400 color bands in 9 different colors at Amazon.

The company also offers a 365 day 100% money back guarantee- so if you aren't happy for any reason you can get a full refund no questions asked or an additional pack sent out to you at no charge (your choice!).

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Sugar Snap Peas And Millet Makes A Great Gluten Free Dish

I love whole grains as they are so good for you and loaded with nutrition. One of my favorite whole grains is millet. Millet is a gluten-free whole grain that is loaded with fiber, protein, and iron. It has a taste similar to brown rice and makes a yummy side dish. I had a package of sugar snap peas in my freezer that I wanted to use so I made this yummy dish with them. You can use fresh sugar snap peas too but I used frozen as that is what I had.

                                  Sugar Snap Peas With Millet

                      2 cups water
                                  1 teaspoon salt
                                 1/2 cup uncooked millet
                                 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
                                 1 teaspoon garlic powder
12 ounces frozen sugar snap peas thawed or two cups fresh
                                 1 tablespoon soy sauce
                                  1 tablespoon black sesame seeds

Bring the water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add the millet, cover and simmer for 40 minutes.
Combine the oil and garlic powder together. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the oil. Saute the sugar snap peas in the skillet for about 2 minutes. If using fresh sugar snap peas, saute them a little longer. Then add the millet, soy sauce, and sesame seeds. Combine until mixed. Place in a serving dish and sprinkle more sesame seeds over the mixture if desired. Serves 4. This is great for a side dish with fish or chicken.

What is your favorite whole grain?
