How to Enhanced Brain Function, Memory and Learning

I love working at home but at times it can be frustrating. About a month ago, I shared with you what a typical day looks like for me in my post A Day In The Life Of A Blogger. This post basically showed all the different things that I do most days as a blogger. One of the main things that most bloggers have to do is write. For the most part, I enjoy writing and have no trouble coming up with things to talk about. Then there are the days when the topic that I have to write about is not easy. I have had many posts that take a couple days to come up with ideas on what to write. My best thinking is done when I am out running. I wish there was some way that I could record my thoughts while I am running onto my computer. I could so much work done that way. There are also the days when my mind just does not want to work and I have trouble thinking. I have had way too many of these days that I call brain fog. When my brain is in its fog, I not only have trouble concentrating but I also have trouble remembering things.

Since I am into healthy living, I wondered if my body was deficient in something that could be causing my brain fogs. I discovered that maybe it could be choline as another symptom of being deficient was having trouble sleeping, that's me alright. I also learned that endurance athletes could be at risk for choline deficiency and I have been trying to increase my speed with my running the past couple of months. I also learned that vegetarians(that's me) and vegans are more prone to experiencing a deficiency in choline. Did you know that people who drink a lot can be at risk of choline deficiency? In fact, most people do not intake enough of this mineral that is good for the brain as it is found in only a couple of food items like eggs, liver, beef, salmon, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, breast milk, and some beans. Since I don't eat meat and only eat eggs, beans, cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts a couple times a week, I decide that it was time for me to start adding more choline to my diet and a choline supplement sounded like the best option. Did you know that choline is a water soluble mineral and must be replaced daily? Some studies also think a choline deficiency might be linked to dementia and Alzheimer's.

After doing some research about the benefits of taking choline, I decided that a supplement would be good for my brain function and memory problems.  I decided to try Vitamonk Alpha GPC for my choline supplement. I liked that it was a 100% safe to take and that it not only supports brain cognition but also promotes learning and memory. I wanted to get my brain out of its fog so I could be more productive with my writing as for me writing is how I make my money. I found it easy to take this choline supplement as not only is it natural but it is also vegetarian and gluten-free.

Alpha GPC is an all-natural nootropic that has been shown to:
+ support cognition and mental performance (in a natural and healthy way)
+ promote memory and learning in healthy individuals
+ boost your focus (even in stressful situations)

Scientific studies show that Alpha GPC is the most efficient dietary supplement to get the powerful molecule choline through your diet, into your blood and brain. Once absorbed, it turns into acetylcholine - the learning neurotransmitter - leading to a whole range of cognitive enhancing properties.

Symptoms of a choline deficiency may possibly include:
low energy levels of fatigue
memory loss
cognitive decline
learning disabilities
muscle aches
nerve damage
mood changes or disorders

I have been taking Alpha GPC for about a week and my brain seems less foggy. I have also been able to focus better on my work. Alpha GPC really isn't meant to be a "quick fix" product and it might take a while for me to see changes in my cognition. I like taking this supplement as choline is something that my body needs and it will not only help my brain now but also may help in the future to prevent dementia problems. My mom seems to complain about her memory and not being able to remember things. So I think I will get her started on this choline supplement. Since it is found in food and is a safe water soluble mineral, it is safe for my mom too.

Do you think your body may be deficient in choline?

I only covered a little bit about choline and its uses. There is so much more information at Vitamonk's website. So go learn more about how this mineral at the below links.

Preparing For The Military Ball

I am so excited to be able to attend my son's military ball!

In a week I will be attending my son's military ball and I am so excited. Now, most of you know that I have four boys and one girl. The son that I am talking about is my teenager, my third child. This son, my 2nd boy is in ROTC and school and every year his unit has a grand ball. All the students in the ROTC unit dress up in their finest clothes. The girls wear floor length gowns and the guys wear their military dress uniforms. The ball is held at a fancy hotel with a fancy meal. This ball is a night of celebration for a year of hard work. I am happy that parents get to attend this event to celebrate with their student. We parents also have a chance to dress up. Since it is a black tie event, the dads wear suits and the moms wear fancy dresses.

I have been preparing for this fancy ball by shopping for a dress, shoes, and other items. I also have been using new facial products to prepare my skin to looks its best on this special night. My new products contain AC-11®, a safe all natural and water soluble bioactive rainforest plant extract that helps the body to repair sun and environmental stress-related damage to DNA, and slow down the process of skin aging. I was excited to try my new face cleanser, eye cream, and anti-wrinkle serum. I love that there are products that help keep my skin looking young as I don't act my age so why should look my age. These products have some unique ingredients in them like macadamia oil that not only helps with those wrinkles but also those dark circles under my eyes. I love how soft my skin feels after using the skin care products. I have only been using the products for two weeks so I have not seen any dramatic changes but I will continue to use them to keep those fine lines away.

So I have my dress and shoes selected for the military ball. My face is getting pampered with new face care products and now I need to figure out my hair. Oh, I am so excited to be able to have a fancy night with my husband at my son's military ball. The below picture is my son and his girlfriend from last year's ball. They were crowned prince and princess, their 2nd time in a row. I wonder if they will get crowned again this year. They do make a good couple. I will update this post with more pictures after I attend the military ball. I have a better camera this year so I am hoping that it will take better pictures.

Homemade Magnesium Lavender Spray For Growing Pains & More

Check out this recipe for a simple spray that uses magnesium oil, lavender essential oil, and chamomile essential oil to sooth aches from growing pains. This spray also helps with sleep.

I am sure most parents have heard of the term growing pains and think is this a real thing? Yes, growing pains are real but according to my research, they have nothing to go with children and growing. These pains got the name because it happens during the time when most children are having growth spurts. These muscle pains, that usually happen in the legs, can happen at any age but typically happen between 3-5 years and 8-12 years. For my youngest son, they started when he was 7 years old, although looking back, I remember when he was 2 saying his legs hurt. My son is now 8 years old and has these muscle pains at least once a week. Over the past year, I have discovered many natural remedies that seem to help with his pain. When my son first started having these "growing pains" they were in his whole leg and the pain was intense. I remember the first time my son said his legs hurt at age 7 and the pain was so bad that he was in tears. I gave him pain medicine and my husband massaged my son's legs for at least 30 minutes. I thought nothing of it until the next night when the pain came back. That is when I did some research and found out what growing pains where. I also discovered that magnesium could help with the pain as a deficiency could cause muscle aches. So I started giving my son a magnesium supplement, first through a crushed up pill and then a liquid form when he had the pain. I later discovered that Epsom salts in a warm bath helped my sons pains. Unfortunately, these methods took at least 20 minutes for the body to absorb to relieve the pain. So when I discovered magnesium oil, I knew I had to try it for my son's growing pain. I am glad I did as magnesium oil relieves his pain faster. I also made a spray using lavender essential oils so the magnesium oil helps my son sleep better too.

What is Magnesium Oil? Although it is called oil, it contains no oil. It is called an oil for the way it feels. This spray contains 100% pure magnesium chloride and unlike other magnesium supplements, this is topically applied directly to the source of the pain for better absorption. Oral supplements can take a while to work and is not easily absorbed, some people have digestive issues too. Magnesium oil is more effectively absorbed through the skin so my son's muscle pains go away faster. Since this magnesium can be made into a spray, I can apply it right to my son's legs without the need for him to take a bath in Epsom salts. You can also use the magnesium oil straight from the bottle but I prefer to make it into a spray using essential oils to give it a scent that my son enjoys. You could also add the magnesium oil to a homemade lotion. This spray is not only great for my son's growing pains but can also be used for other symptoms of magnesium deficiency.

Fitness Minus The Gym?

As soon as you start to think about getting fit, it seems like the best thing to do is head straight for you local gym and sign up for everything and anything. While the gym works brilliantly for a lot of folks, it's not everybody's cup of tea. So how do you improve your fitness if you don't want to spend a few hours a week on a treadmill, in a hot sweaty room, full of strangers? Read on to find out.

Running

Of course, many folks run at the gym but is not really the same as getting out and about in the fresh air and running on, or off the road. For one, you get no wind resistance at the gym and running on grass or asphalt is very different to the surface on the treadmills that they have there.

Running at the gym can also cause you to lack the feeling of accomplishment that you get when you see the scenery go by. As well as they joy a lot of folks feel from being outside in the sunlight.

You can even up your motivation by signing up for some races. It best to start off with a 5K and work your way up from there, who knows it may even end up with you running an ultramarathon!

Yoga

Now fitness isn’t all about aerobic exercise, it's about healthy joints and supply muscles as well. That is why a lot of folks choose to follow Yoga or Pilates programs in their own homes. These are primarily made up of postures that include twisting and stretching. Which aligns and builds the muscles.

There is a lot of a different type to choose from such as hot, or Bikram yoga,  or the more traditional Ashtanga. Some people even choose to do a mix of yoga and Pilate called Piyo. You can learn more about Piyo by clicking the previous link. Then you can see how it measures up to the other toning and stretching exercise regimes on the market.

HITT

Although if you are going for fast fat burning results a lot of people are really getting into HITT or High-Intensity Tactical Training activities now. These are sets of repeated activities that are done at full intensity for a longer amount of time, with a shorter amount of time dedicated to a rest period. It were like traditional interval training but turned on its head for maximum burn.

Of course, coming from the military, it's not the easiest thing to do. But if you like a challenge and want fast results it can be an effective choice.

Kettlebells

It's even possible to buy your own kit and work out in the comfort of your own home or yard, instead of going to the gym. For example, you could invest in a set of kettlebells and follow a routine at home.

Kettlebells combine movement with weight training to help you tone your muscles and burn off fat at the same time. So they are great all round fitness activity. Just make sure you have a strong grip on them, as you don't want your kettlebell to end up flying through your living room window!
