Fitness Minus The Gym?

As soon as you start to think about getting fit, it seems like the best thing to do is head straight for you local gym and sign up for everything and anything. While the gym works brilliantly for a lot of folks, it's not everybody's cup of tea. So how do you improve your fitness if you don't want to spend a few hours a week on a treadmill, in a hot sweaty room, full of strangers? Read on to find out.

Running

Of course, many folks run at the gym but is not really the same as getting out and about in the fresh air and running on, or off the road. For one, you get no wind resistance at the gym and running on grass or asphalt is very different to the surface on the treadmills that they have there.

Running at the gym can also cause you to lack the feeling of accomplishment that you get when you see the scenery go by. As well as they joy a lot of folks feel from being outside in the sunlight.

You can even up your motivation by signing up for some races. It best to start off with a 5K and work your way up from there, who knows it may even end up with you running an ultramarathon!

Yoga

Now fitness isn’t all about aerobic exercise, it's about healthy joints and supply muscles as well. That is why a lot of folks choose to follow Yoga or Pilates programs in their own homes. These are primarily made up of postures that include twisting and stretching. Which aligns and builds the muscles.

There is a lot of a different type to choose from such as hot, or Bikram yoga,  or the more traditional Ashtanga. Some people even choose to do a mix of yoga and Pilate called Piyo. You can learn more about Piyo by clicking the previous link. Then you can see how it measures up to the other toning and stretching exercise regimes on the market.

HITT

Although if you are going for fast fat burning results a lot of people are really getting into HITT or High-Intensity Tactical Training activities now. These are sets of repeated activities that are done at full intensity for a longer amount of time, with a shorter amount of time dedicated to a rest period. It were like traditional interval training but turned on its head for maximum burn.

Of course, coming from the military, it's not the easiest thing to do. But if you like a challenge and want fast results it can be an effective choice.

Kettlebells

It's even possible to buy your own kit and work out in the comfort of your own home or yard, instead of going to the gym. For example, you could invest in a set of kettlebells and follow a routine at home.

Kettlebells combine movement with weight training to help you tone your muscles and burn off fat at the same time. So they are great all round fitness activity. Just make sure you have a strong grip on them, as you don't want your kettlebell to end up flying through your living room window!

I think changing up your workout routine is extremely important so your body is never able to adjust to a certain type of exercise. There are certainly a ton of ways to burn calories without a gym!

I don't pay for gym membership. I do a lot of walking. That is the only exercise I engage it. So far, it works well for me. In the office, I take the stairs if I am only going up or down two floors.

For me it's yoga! I do around 10-20 minutes at home when I can. The schedule of a gym is hard for me to stick to so this works best. Great advice x

You don't need a gym to get fit, it's just that we are used to it as the symbol of fitness. These days though, it's really easy to find exercises that you can do at home! I really like these ideas. Yoga is one of my favorites.

I gave up my gym membership last year and have been working out at home with the aid of YOu tube videos and just my own programme. The advantage to the gym however was that you had that as a routine. Sometimes I tend to let the sofa lure me more than my fitness mat at home LOL!

I'm all about trail runs and yoga. I've been trying really hard to get back to a more regular routine of both, but it definitely is hard.
