Healthy Easter Basket Ideas

Check out some great items to put in the Easter baskets that are not loaded with sugar.

I just love celebrating Easter! It is a day that we rejoice about Jesus dying on the cross and coming back to life to save us from our sins. It is a holiday about new life. It is also a fun holiday that has Easter egg hunts and baskets filled with goodies. My kids love discovering their baskets on Easter morning. They love all the sugary treats that the Easter bunny leaves. Sometimes that bunny leaves too many treats that are filled with sugar so this year, I have some other healthy treats that will be in my boys Easter Basket. These treats are ones that my boys will be excited to receive.

The first treat in the basket will be their favorite drink. My boys love Cascade Sparkling Ice water. This zero calorie water comes in so many wonderful flavors and it is a treat that I say yes too. This naturally flavored water has none of those unhealthy items in it. I love that it has zero grams of sugar in it. Even the teen loves this water. His favorite flavor is coconut as he loves to combine the drink with a can of pineapple for an amazing Low Calorie Guilt-Free Pina Colada.

Check out all the many flavors Here: http://www.cascadeicewater.com

The next treat in the Easter basket is these amazing fruit trail mixes. These almost did not make it into their basket as the Easter bunny/mom wanted to enjoy these and not share. These Sunkist Snacks single serve packs contain delicious premium fruit and tree nuts (no low-cost fillers like raisins and peanuts) to give you and the kids a satisfying, perfectly portioned snack. Not just for the kids, each flavor has premium, exotic fruits to satisfy the curious palate. These are also small enough to fit in a plastic egg.

Flavors include Strawberry Banana Blend, Pineapple Coconut Blend, and Breakfast Espresso & Granola Blend. Sold at major grocers such as Walmart and Ralphs as well as online at

As I get more healthy items I will add them to this post so check back!

Dave’s Gourmet Garlic Sauce Giveaway

Do you love garlic? Then you will love these gourmet garlic products!

April is National Garlic Month! What better way to celebrate this delicious spice than with a Giveaway. I love the flavor of garlic on my food so when I foud out that there was a Roasted Garlic Hot Sauce, I just had to try it! I thought this sauce would taste great on scrambled eggs or a shrimp pizza. This flavorful garlic sauce gave my eggs the perfect amount of heat. This sauce is sweet with a warm heat so it does not make your mouth feel on fire. This cool looking bottle now stays on my kitchen table so I can use it on many foods like veggies, beans, tacos, and anywhere else that I desire a kick of heat. The garlic taste is just so wonderful.

Dave's Gourmet is a company after my heart as they make so many delicious garlic based products like hot sauces, pasta sauce, and more. I love that some of their products have just a bit of heat for those days that I don't want a bunch of spice in my food. My kids love Dave's Roasted garlic & Sweet Basil pasta sauce on their pasta. It has the perfect amount of garlic and uses Non-GMO ingredients.

A funny story about how Dave's Gourmet got started:  Dave started out with a hot sauce that started as a joke.  Dave owned a Mexican restaurant in College Park, Maryland called Burrito
Madness.  He needed a way to drive late-night unruly customers from his business so he started serving them a hot sauce.  He kept making his provocative sauce hotter and hotter.  The answer to his late-night problems was oleoresin capsicum, not coincidentally
the debilitating ingredient in pepper spray.  Dave’s hot sauce developed a cult following and turned into a business.  Dave brought it to the National Fiery Food Show in 1993 but was banned from the show because, as Dave describes it, “some guy had a minor respiratory
problem.”

That hot sauce is now called Insanity Sauce and Dave’s Gourmet has worked since 1993 to save the world from blandness and banality.  Now Dave’s makes hot sauces for those of us
who can’t handle extreme heat and award winning pasta sauces too.

Healthy Living Means A Healthy Life

I know there are lots of parents out there who think they can handle an addiction while still being a great parent. They probably don’t even call it an addiction. Coping mechanism sounds mildly better, doesn’t it? So, how can a coping mechanism affect your family? Well, for starters there’s their health. There is no doubt that an addiction is going to impact on the health of your child and I'll give you an example. Let’s say that you’re a nicotine addict and you can’t handle waiting for the puff of your next cigarette. Are you going to light up with your child in the room? You might say, of course not! Okay...how about in the garden? You may think that smoking in the garden is perfectly safe, but experts disagree. The deadly fumes hang around in the air and will still be there when your little one heads out into the garden later. Of course, the issue of an impact on a child’s health is really just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more factors of your addiction that will destroy your child’s life.

In Danger

We’re not talking about direct consequences of an addiction anymore. How about indirectly putting your child in danger? Let’s say you’ve gone out for a lovely dinner as a family. You have always had a glass of wine with your meals. That’s it, one glass of wine. But depending on the wine in question that could still put you over the edge and make you less attentive on the drive home. This may mean that you are actually putting your kids in danger because of an addiction that you couldn’t say no to. At best you’ll find yourself sitting talking to Scheiner Law's DWI lawyers with your child in the waiting room a day later. At worse, you could be involved in an accident. It doesn’t even bare thinking what the consequences of that could be. Of course, the former possibility still isn’t a great scenario.

Ashamed

Imagine how your children will feel when you are pulled over by the police. Not just pulled over but breathalyzed and found to be over the limit. Older children will know exactly what’s happening and younger ones will know enough to realize that you have done something wrong. They will be ashamed, and that’s not even considering the possibility that you could be charged with a crime for putting them in danger. It’s just one of the reasons why you need to kick your addiction as a parent because it’s not just your life that you’re putting at risk.

Broken And Broke

Finally, it’s fair to say that most addictions are expensive. If you’re buying a bottle of wine each week, you could still be spending close to a thousand a year, and very few addicts will settle for just one. Anything like cigarettes is also expensive so you can bet your addiction is going to affect the quality of life of your children. If you want them to have everything they have ever dreamed of, you must get the monkey off your back right now. Otherwise, you’ll constantly be tightening your belt for a reason that you’re too ashamed to talk about.

Peeps Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Sponsored post. I received a box of many, many delicious Peeps to enjoy.

Peeps and white chocolate equals yummy! Add salty pretzels and I am in heaven!

Every Easter I get excited as that means soft delicious chewy Peeps. I know you can get Peeps at other holidays but Easter is the only time I indulge and stock up on those marshmallow Peeps. It used to be that Peeps were only available at Easter time and I remember getting them in my Easter basket. So my tradition is only to buy Peeps for my kid's Easter baskets. When I buy those soft bunnies and chicks for my kids, I also stock up on plenty for me. I love that Peeps come in many colors so I can choose a different color for each kid.

Since I was sent so many Peeps, I decided to have some fun(making the chocolate covered pretzels) with them beyond just putting them in my kid's Easter basket. Did you know Peeps came in other flavors? Did you know that there are Peeps dipped in chocolate? I knew that some of these different flavors existed but I was surprised at all the different types and flavors of Peeps. Some of these I have never seen in my stores and I am glad that I can purchase them online at the Peep Website: https://www.marshmallowpeeps.com/ I am going to have a hard time sharing all of these Peeps with my kids. I think on Easter, we will have to have a Peep tasting party so we can all experience these delicious new to us flavors.

So after I divided up all the yummy Peeps for my kid's Easter baskets, I grabbed a couple of boxes for my chocolate covered pretzels. My kids saw the couple of boxes of Peeps that I grabbed and wanted to eat them but I told them I was creating with them. They have know idea about about all the other boxes I put aside for their baskets. Shh, don't tell them! They are going to be so surprised on Easter morning. Do you want to buy some of these unique Peeps for your Easter baskets or to enjoy yourself? I have a coupon code for you to save money too! Just use code eastertreats and save 25% off your whole order at https://www.marshmallowpeeps.com/

                                                          Now for the recipe!

                      Peeps Chocolate Covered Pretzels
                      one bag pretzel rods
                       one bag regular pretzels
                       one package white chocolate chips
                       assorted sprinkles in Easter colors
packages of Peeps bunnies and chicks, in desired colors

These pretzels are so easy and fun to make. Lay out some wax paper or silicone baking mats. Then place the sprinkles in bowls. Open the bags of pretzels so the are ready after you melt the white chocolate. Place the white chocolate in a microwave safe dish and cook for high for 1 minute. Stir the chocolate and microwave in 30-second increments until melted. TIP: Do not lick or get the spoon wet as this will cause your chocolate to become crumbly and unuseable.

Once the chocolate is melted, dip the pretzels, one at a time, into it. Use a spoon to get the chocolate all over the pretzel. Lift the pretzel up over the bowl and allow the excess to drip off. The hold the pretzel over the sprinkle bowl and sprinkle the sprinkles over the chocolate, turning the pretzel to get all the sides. Place the sprinkle, chocolate covered pretzel on the wax paper/silicone mat. Then grab one Peep and dip the back or bottom into the melted chocolate. Then let the excess drip off and stick it to the pretzel. Repeat until all the desired Peeps and pretzels are used.

The Shoe That Grows #WearAPair2017

Come join me in getting these cool shoes to kids in poor countries.

It is amazing what we take for granted. One of those items that we don't give much thought to is shoes. We wear shoes to protect out feet and have several pairs. In other countries shoes are an item that most kids do without. Sure people go on mission trips and bring shoes to these poor kids. The problem it is hard to know what sizes these kids need so not everyone gets shoes. If the kids do get shoes they outgrow them fast.

This week I am wearing an amazing shoe that grows to raise awareness to a company that distributes shoes to kids in need. This company makes a shoe that grows with the child, up to five sizes. I think it is cool that they make these shoes in lots of colors. I choose the pretty pink ones to wear.

A shoe that grows five sizes and lasts for years.  With this shoe, a kid can always have a pair of shoes that fit.  They can stay healthy and happy – ready to take the next steps to their future.

Check out this company and their mission to give kids in need shoes

Now that you know about the shoe- head over to my page and help me fundraise for this awesome company so that these kids in need can have shoes.
