Having a sick child or one with special needs can be stressful. As a parent, you want your child to get the best health care treatments, services, or equipment. No child should be denied access to good health care simply because their parents can not afford them. A parent should focus on helping their child get better, not on medical bills. I want to share some information to New Mexico families about a wonderful organization that cares about children.
The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation helps families pay for children’s medical expenses not covered, or not fully covered, by a commercial health insurance plan. Qualifying families can receive up to $5,000 per child, through a wonderful grant that has a lifetime maximum of $10,00 per child. Families can use this money to help pay for medical services and equipment such as physical, occupational and speech therapy, counseling services, surgeries, prescriptions, wheelchairs, orthotics, eyeglasses and hearing aids.
The UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation is seeking grant applications from New Mexico families in need of financial assistance to help pay for their child’s health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by their commercial health insurance plan. To be eligible for a grant, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States and have a commercial health insurance plan. Grants are available for medical expenses that families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs. Families do not need to have insurance through UnitedHealthcare to be eligible.

In New Mexico, UHCCF awarded more than 5 grants since 2011 and is hoping many more local families apply this year. This wonderful organization has awarded over 10,000 grants to children and families across the United States. That is more than $29 million since 2007 that has helped children with medical conditions such as cancer, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, diabetes, hearing loss, autism, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, ADHD and cerebral palsy. These children received the treatments they needed thanks to UHCCF.
These pictures show some of the many children who received these UHCCF grants. To learn more about these children and more, please visit the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation's website at www.UHCCF.org
