The best way to cook onions
I am going to show you how easy it is to make caramelized onions and transform your onions to a great taste. If you can saute an onion, then you can make caramelized onions. To make the best-tasting onions, you just need a white or yellow onion. You can slice up one onion or as many as you want. The best part is caramelizing the onions allows them to be stored in the fridge for a least a week. For longer storage, you can even freeze the caramelized onions. I like to freeze the onions in small recipe size batches. So go ahead and make a big batch of caramelized onions as they are great in so many recipes like pizza, bread, and more, anywhere you would add onions. I even use the caramelized onions in my homemade hummus recipes. Making caramelized onions is so simple. Once you make them you will be hooked.
The first step is to chop your onion into desired size pieces. Then place in a pan with one tablespoon of vegetable oil.
The next step requires patience as it can take 15-20 minutes. Over medium-high heat stir the onions in the oil until they are light brown. This is a great time to listen to music or talk on the phone, as you need to keep stirring the onions for 15- 25 minutes. The time is well worth it!
Wait for the golden brown color
I love to use my caramelized onions on a cheese pizza with rosemary. The onions are also great in dishes like millet with parmesan cheese and rosemary. I love the way rosemary and caramelized onions complement each other. Other uses for caramelized onions are with cooked vegetables, in soups and casseroles, and even on a cheese sandwich!
