Does Waxing Your Legs Hurt?

I tried waxing for the first time

I received samples to facilitate this post

I had never waxed my legs before but I had heard a lot of good things about leg waxing so I decided to give an at home waxing a try. I wanted to experience the silky smooth skin on my legs and not have to shave for eight weeks. My husband would be thrilled to have my smooth sexy legs next to him too. I did my research on leg waxing and decided to use all-natural sugar wax kit. The kit I choose came with everything that I needed to wax my legs and I liked that it was water soluble. That way if I chicken out during the process, I could just wash the wax off my legs without a mess. After I selected the wax kit that I was going to use, I had to let my leg hair grow. I was just fine with that as I hated shaving. Thankfully, my leg hair is blonde and unnoticeable. I am one of those lucky girls that can shave once every two weeks. I do shave about once a week as I (and my husband too) like smooth legs. It took about three weeks for my leg hair to grow long enough to wax. My husband was anxious for me to try the wax kit on my legs as he enjoys my smooth legs.

Tips to make waxing less painful

Since this was my first time waxing, I did plenty of research about the best technique and ways to minimize the pain. My thinking was I could handle a little bit of pain for the reward of not shaving for 8 weeks. Through my research, I learned some tips to make at home waxing easier and hopefully pain-free.

             1.  About 30 minutes prior to a wax, take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
             2.  Use an exfoliating scrub on the areas you’ll be waxing.
             3.  Let your hair grow to one-quarter of an inch before waxing.
             4.  Never get waxed right before or during your period. (you are more sensitive then.)
             5.  Wash your legs with warm water before waxing to remove any oils.
             6. A light sprinkling of talc powder on the legs will help the wax remove the hair better.
             7. Holding skin taut with one hand while removing the strip helps too.
             8. Soothe skin after waxing with an aloe based lotion or gel that was stored in the fridge.

All natural ingredients

So now that I had all these helpful hints, I was ready to start the waxing process. I took the lid off the BodyHonee’s all-natural Sugar Wax and placed it in the microwave for 30 seconds. The wax looked like honey, it looked delicious. No, I did not eat any but if I did, I would be OK as it was made with pure cane sugar, sea salt, and lemon juice. While the wax was heating up, I laid out my hair removal paper strips that came with the kit. Once the wax was heated up, I stirred it with the wooden spatula and applied a thin layer of sugar wax to my leg. I am glad I decided to do my waxing in the bathroom as it was a little bit messy. I then applied the paper strip to my leg and quickly removed it. I was amazed that the hair came out with just a little bit of pain. I then applied the Post Wax Oil to my legs. The oil soothed away the pain and inflammation that comes with pulling hair out of your legs. This was not as painful I as thought it would be. The key is to pull the strips up fast like pulling a bandage off.

I like that BodyHonee sells different types of wax kits according to the type of hair your legs have. My legs have fine hair so the all-natural Sugar Wax was perfect for me. The extra strength hair removal kit might be better for my underarm hairs. There is also a video on their website and FAQs which helped me learn how to wax my legs. I think the best part of waxing is the silky smooth legs that I will have for up to eight weeks.

Have you done an at home waxing before?

I would definitely try this! I have waxed at home before, but it's been a while. Then there was that time I talked my husband into letting me wax his back. He screamed like a little girl. :) Waxing doesn't bother me that much.

Ouchie. That is what I ALWAYS think when it comes to waxing. But I would LOVE to have hair free legs for 8 weeks. Heck, I'd buy this for my 13 yo because she thinks she has to shave every.single.day.

8 weeks! My hair would start growing in in 3 days, after a week I would have to shave again! I did love how smooth it made my legs! Now that I am older I don't have nearly as much hair LOL!

Waxing is so scary and painful! I'm thankful I don't have to do it too often

I dont really use wax anymore, I use an epilator instead and then use honey for soothing

It would definitely be better to do waxing at home, it's more convenient that way! I think this is pretty cool. I haven't tried any home kits yet. I'd love to give this brand a try.

I have never tried waxing! I hate shaving, especially during the winter because it dries out my skin way to much. Maybe I will try waxing this winter instead.

I waxed once a long time ago. It wasn't water soluble so it wasn't pretty. I didn't even know there was water soluble on the market. I may give this a try. I think I'm over the past experience now (it's been about 15 years, lol).

I would definitely plan to try this. I love the idea of not having to wax for a couple of weeks because every time I shave it grows back with in 2-3 days.

I have never tried waxing before. I don't care for shaving either, but I actually love using Nair. I'm not sure I could ever use wax.

I've never tried it at home before. But it definitely hurt when I had it done at the spa.

I hate waxing, I guess I've had really bad luck. But my skin is super sensitive so that probably doesn't help.

My answer to the question is YES! My experience with waxing (both at home and professionally) was painful. However, I think the extended hairlessness is cool.

Honestly I have never waxed my legs so far as I have always been fishy about the sensitive nature of my skin as they are usually painful. May be I will give it a try sometime again!

I had a bad experience with waxing, so I have been nervous to try again . I might have to give this stuff a shot.
