Supplements For Healthy Cortisol Levels

Cortisol is a hormone released from your adrenal glands with many essential functions for your health. Having the right cortisol balance is important for your health. Producing too much or too little cortisol can cause health problems.

What comes to mind when you hear about cortisol levels? For me, I have associated cortisol with stress, sleep, and weight gain. I have also heard so many health experts say that high levels of cortisol can cause certain health problems, but they never tell you how to reduce your cortisol levels.

Some people will say stress or lack of sleep may be the reason for high cortisol levels, but again, they never explain how to lower your stress or how to get a restful night of sleep. I guess one just needs to tell their body to fall asleep or to be less stressed. Like that is going to happen!

There can be many factors why your cortisol levels are unbalanced. One needs to first understand more about cortisol before they can get to the root problem of the health issues associated with high cortisol levels.

+ Information gathered from here

What is cortisol?

Cortisol is a steroid hormone made by your adrenal glands, located on top of each kidney. When you feel stressed, your body releases more cortisol into your bloodstream. Having the right cortisol balance is important for your health. Producing too much or too little cortisol can cause health problems.

The many functions of Cortisol

This hormone has many functions for the body:

+ Helps with the metabolism of glucose

+ Controls heart rate and blood pressure

  + Reduces inflammation

  + Helps with stress

+ Mood-related items like depression and anxiety

What happens when your cortisol levels are unbalanced?

For the most part, our bodies produce the right amount of cortisol, but there are diseases that cause the body to produce too little or too much cortisol.

Symptoms of too much cortisol may include:

  + weight gain

+ thin and fragile skin that is slow to heal

  + acne

+ female facial hair and irregular menstrual periods

  + reduced fertility

  + emotional changes

Symptoms of too little cortisol include:

  + constant tiredness

  + nausea and vomiting

  + loss of appetite

  + weight loss

  + muscle weakness

  + pain in the abdomen

Don't Self-Diagnose

If you have any of the above symptoms, don't play doctor and self-diagnose. These symptoms can be related to so many health conditions. Instead, ask your doctor about a blood test to measure your cortisol levels.

Supplements For Healthy Cortisol Levels

Since most people do not have diseases related to unhealthy levels of cortisol, the best way to have healthy cortisol levels is to eat healthy, exercise, get 7-8 hours of sleep, and reduce your stress.

In a perfect world, your body cooperates, and you are able to do all of the above. For real-world people, there are supplements that may help regulate cortisol levels.

The top three supplements for healthy cortisol levels

1. Ashwagandha: An adaptogen that has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, lowering cortisol production.

2. Magnesium: Plays a role in calming the nervous system and promoting relaxation, which can help reduce cortisol levels.

3. L-Theanine: An amino acid found in green tea that has calming and anti-stress effects, making it beneficial for reducing cortisol.

My healthy routine for Healthy Cortisol Levels

As a person who has struggled with sleep and losing weight in my midsection, I have always wondered if my cortisol levels were balanced. When I attended the Newtopia Now conference last month, I stopped by the Ridgecrest Herbals booth. I love using their ClearLung supplement and was interested in learning about their newest supplements.

After a discussion of the sleep problems that I was experiencing, not able to fall asleep due to my mind not shutting off. They gave me a sample of SereniZen® gummies. They told me that this supplement could help with balancing my cortisol levels, which could be related to my sleep issues.

I have been taking the SereniZen gummies every day, and it has been helping me fall asleep quickly. I have also noticed that my mind no longer stays in thinking mode.

I also increased my infrared sauna time to 4 times a week, thanks to being able to purchase a home infrared sauna. Benefits of using an infrared sauna include improved sleep, and the deep heat therapy aids in lowering stress levels and balancing hormones that affect sleep patterns.

While I don't know for sure if my cortisol levels are in a healthy range, I need to do a blood test to know. I do know that I am sleeping better, and I no longer have anxiety during the day. I am also able to concentrate better. So what I am doing must be working.
