When bedtime came my boys asked why we were going to read a Christmas story and I told them Christmas will be here in about 2 months and this story will help us to get ready. I then ready this book The Sparkle Box to my two youngest boys who are 5 and 6 that night at bedtime. The book kept their attention the whole time and they kept asking if they could open the sparkle box. At the end of the story, they found out what the sparkle box is for. A box to put our good deeds when did for Jesus. I loved the discussion I was able to have with my boys at the end of the story about good deeds. They came up with wonderful ways we could help people at Christmas time. I then placed the sparkle box on their dresser to remind them to think of more ways we could help people. We will then write them down and place the slips of paper in the box after we do the good deed. What good deeds does your family do at Christmas time?
About The Sparkle Box - A Gift with the Power to Change Christmas
Sam is so excited about Christmas! He's thinking about his Christmas list, looking forward to holiday parties, and puzzling over one very mysterious gift: a sparkly box sitting on the mantel. In the midst of the festivities, Sam and his family participate in various acts of kindness to others. On Christmas morning, when Sam finally opens the Sparkle Box, he finds only slips of paper that record the family's good deeds. Sam's mom explains that the things that they've been doing are, in fact, a gift for Jesus, for Jesus said that whatever we do for those in need, we do for Him.
