How To Make A Volcano With Discover With Dr. Cool

My two younger boys just love to make things, including messes. They also love learning about how things work. I love when I can combine learning and art into one great adventure. They were thrilled when I told them they were going to make a volcano. They just could not wait to do this project. This project was perfect for the rainy day we were having.

I received a cool volcano kit from Discover With Dr. Cool and this kit made a wonderful rainy day activity. My boys and I were excited to learn about volcanoes. The kit included everything we needed to make a volcano. I loved that there was info and activity books included so my boys were able to learn more about what a volcano is made of of and what makes it erupt. It even included some rocks that were formed from volcanic ash.

My boys first read the adventure guide to me and even I learned some new info about volcanoes. Then the fun began, the making of the volcano. The kit included plaster and a plastic mold so we could make the volcano. My son had fun mixing the plaster with the water.

Then we poured the plaster into the mold. We waited 30 minutes for it to set. Then we un-molded the volcano and put it in the oven to dry.

When the volcano came out of the oven, it was painting time. My sons loved painting the volcano with the included paint. The kit included red, yellow and orange. My sons and I though brown or black would be great colors to paint the volcano but there was none of these colors in the kit. So they combined the colors together to make an awesome looking volcano.

Once the paint dried, it was time for the best part. My boys were so excited to make the volcano erupt. The kit included the chemicals needed to make the cool reaction. My boys loved watching the "lava" flow down the volcano. The kit include enough chemicals for two eruptions but you can use baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring for more eruptions.

Discover With Dr. Cool Volcano kit made for a great fun learning adventure on a rainy day. This kit includes: Volcano Mold, plaster, paints, brush, eruption powder, and 3 real specimens, including: a real geode, an obsidian arrowhead, and a floating piece of volcanic rock called pumice.  This kit is perfect for a science fair project or gift for kids 6-12 that are interested in volcanoes, earth science, or geology. The full color info and activity guides were written by teachers and are filled with cool science facts about volcanoes and puzzles to solve. Check out the Discover With Dr. Cool website to learn more about this science kit and many others that they sell. My son wants to discover The Break Open Geode kit for our next learning adventure.

Take a look at Discover With Dr. Cool website and tell me a product you would like to buy for you child. What kit would make a great gift for your child?

Sweet! Sometimes, I request toys even though I have no children, just so that I can play with them. This one would be too much effort for this adult child! :)
