My Review of Unbroken: Path to Redemption

This movie was a great family movie!

Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255:  “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”). I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

My family and I had an opportunity to watch Unbroken: Path to Redemption before it came to theatres. I love movies that are based on a true store and that are ones we can watch as a family. My boys are pre-teens so there are some PG13 movies that I will allow them to watch and this faith-based movie was one that I approved of. This movie has a PG13 rating as there were some scenes in that were flashbacks that showed some violence from the Japanese war camp. These scenes were tough to watch. Some of the violent scenes made me jump but my boys were fine with them. Other than the scary parts of the war camp, I really liked this movie for a family movie night. This movie brought up some great discussions afterward with the whole family.

The movie was about World War II hero Louis Zamperini who was a prisoner war camp survivor that blamed God for the torture that he endured. This makes me think of people who say "how could God allow such bad things to happen!" Louis turns to alcohol to escape all the flashbacks from the camp. This movie opened my eyes to the true suffering of PTSD that many war people suffer from, a term that is being so loosely used by people for other things. Louis meets his future wife Cynthia in Miami when he has orders for R&R to try to give up his addiction to alcohol. She falls in love with him and has no idea of his PTSD. These flashbacks focus on the torture that Louis endure in the prisoner camp and all the alcohol does is make him a violent person that his wife is so afraid that she wants out of the marriage. A friend invites Cynthia to a Billy Graham crusade and through her new faith she realizes that she must help her husband find the peace that only God can give. Louis eventually surrenders to God and learns to forgive those that hurt him.

This movie really moved my family and after the movie, we had plenty of questions about Louis's true story that lead me to the internet searching for answers. That lead to a history lesson and a faith lesson for my boys. I loved the real footage of Louis and Billy Graham at the end of the movie. It is truly amazing the lives that Billy Graham touched through his ministry. This is a movie that I want to watch again. I have not seen the first Unbroken movie that was released in 2014 but after seeing this movie, I want to view that one.

ABOUT THE MOVIE

WHEN THE WAR ENDED, HIS BATTLE BEGAN.
Based on Laura Hillenbrand’s bestselling book, UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION begins where the hit movie Unbroken concludes, sharing the next amazing chapter of the unbelievable true story of Olympian and World War II hero Louis Zamperini.

Haunted by nightmares of his torment, Louie sees himself as anything but a hero. Then, he meets Cynthia, a young woman who captures his eye—and his heart.

Louie’s wrathful quest for revenge drives him deeper into despair, putting the couple on the brink of divorce. Until Cynthia experiences Billy Graham’s 1949 Los Angeles Crusade, where she finds faith in God and a renewed commitment to her marriage and her husband. Now, her most fervent prayer is for God to help Louie find the peace and forgiveness he so desperately needs.

In theaters September 14, UNBROKEN: PATH TO REDEMPTION brings to life the rest of this powerful real-life story of forgiveness, redemption, and amazing grace.
