Yoga For Beginners- How Not To Be Embarrassed

Sponsored Post: I was compensated to write an honest review about Glo.com

I decided to try yoga but I had no clue where to start

It seems like everyone that I know is doing yoga, even my son is doing yoga in gym class. My older sister is even doing yoga many times a week and she really enjoys it. I have heard that yoga is supposed to be great for strength and toning, those are two items that I can always use more of. Then there is the stress relief part of yoga that sounds really good to me. So I started thinking to myself, maybe it is time that I start exploring some yoga classes. While I was at my gym last month I started watching some yoga classes while I did my weight machines. I was amazed at all that these ladies could do and they seemed so strong and flexible. These ladies also had great coordination and I kind of felt intimidated. This brought back bad memories of my clumsy self when I took aerobic classes and how I always was ten steps behind everyone else. I think that is why I like running as I do not have to do all those different steps that aerobic classes require.

Stuck inside the house with hyper kids

I really wanted some flexibility and strength in my body as I can't even touch my toes. I thought to myself that maybe yoga might help strengthen my core muscles. So I told myself that I would look into taking a yoga class at my gym. Then I remembered that I did not want to be the one holding the class back as I am trying to learn the basics. I also did not want to feel embarrassed in the yoga class. Did you know that it is frown upon to ask a question in a yoga class? So I decided that I would try yoga in the comfort of my own home and looked online for yoga for beginners. I stumbled upon a 7-day free trial of online yoga classes and knew that winter break would be a perfect time for me to try yoga. With the cold weather and the boys being home, it would be hard for me to get to the gym anyway.

Fast forward to a winter storm

I am glad that I decided to a yoga class online as my town got hit with a two-day snowstorm that made the roads too icy to drive on. I was really stuck in the house with two hyper boys that tried to enjoy the snow but it was bitter cold outside and you really can't do much with an inch of snow. Yes, when you live in Albuquerque, the town shuts down with one inch of snow as they don't have the equipment to keep the roads safe. So I decided to check out the best online yoga classes to learn about yoga. I invited my boys to join in and watch a yoga video class with me, that way they might work off some of that extra energy that they always have. I placed my tablet into my tablet stand and selected a class that introduced me to the different yoga stretches. I loved that I could adjust my tablet stand so I could see the yoga video from the floor. I selected an online yoga class that was taught by a man so my boys could see that yoga is for everyone. My youngest son even brought me a yoga mat from the camping supplies.

IS YOGA RIGHT FOR YOU?
Yoga is accessible for everyone, no matter what you look like, how old you are, how you dress, how much you weigh, what you do for a living, where you live or what religion you practice.

Lots of classes and different levels

I was amazed at all the selection of beginner yoga classes that I could select from. Glo had online yoga for every level, from beginner to yoga teachers. The best part was no one was going to laugh at me when I did the yoga poses wrong, well maybe my kids did laugh at me but I am able to handle that. I also did not have to leave my house in the cold weather or try to get to the gym before the class filled up. I could also do my yoga class whenever I wanted. Why is it all the classes at the gym never fit my schedule?

Yoga is fun

The boys and I had fun learning the different yoga poses. Sure there were times that I had to deal with them clowning around but as a mom, to four boys I am used to that. Once the boys got their wiggles out, they encouraged me to get my body form correct. My one son already knew how to do many of the poses from his school gym class.

Learning yoga at my pace

I liked that I could pause the yoga video class as I was learning the yoga techniques. That way I did not feel rushed to learn the different yoga stretches. Pausing the yoga class also helped me to practice my deep breathing. The online yoga teacher also did a great job of explaining how to do the different yoga poses and helped me get the right yoga body form.

Even the most basic yoga stretches require clothes that can stretch or move, so wear the most comfortable outfit that allows you to move around easily.

Yoga made me feel strong

All my weightlifting at the gym really helped me with some of the yoga stances. I could really feel my arm muscles getting a good workout. The boys even challenge me to see how many push-ups I could do. They also reminded me that I needed to have my arms go down more with each push-up. I think yoga will help with my arm strength. The pose above felt good in my back muscles. Next time that my husband complains about back pain, I will have him perform this yoga pose.

Yoga is great for runners

I even discover a couple of yoga poses that will be great for running. Before I run, I like to stretch my leg muscles well as I don't want to experience another hamstring tear like I did two years ago. So I will incorporate many of the yoga poses into my before and after running time. Yoga helped me stretch my leg muscles. I will get my cardio from running and my stretches from yoga.

Yoga will be great before bed
By the time I was done with my online yoga class, I felt very relaxed. I do have to admit that I really do not like the slow pace of yoga so I may have to do my yoga class at nighttime when I have less energy. Yoga would be a great way to help me destress and get my boy relaxed for sleep. The online yoga video classes did help the boys be less hyper so I saw less rough-housing from them that day.

THE BENEFITS OF YOGA

Speed recovery from training
Help with stress
Help with balance
Increase your sense of happiness and well being

Yoga classes to fit your schedule

It is not easy to get the exercise in when you are a mom. Even if you belong to a gym, the child care center always has limited hours or your kid complains that they don't want to go. So I like that I can exercise whenever I want with these online yoga classes, even at 2 in the morning. I select the class that I like and just press play. If I don't like that class, I can leave and choose another class without feeling guilty or losing any money. I also do not have to worry about a crowded gym or finding a parking spot. So I like that I can exercise with yoga at home, especially when my kids have no school.  So be good to yourself this year and check out the Glo 7-day free trial of online yoga classes. You can learn/do yoga at your pace without feeling embarrassed or intimidated. You also do not need any fancy yoga clothes for the best online yoga. These online yoga classes are perfect for stay at home moms!

So happy to come across this post. I have wanted to try yoga for so long, but always lacked the confidence to do so. I really appreciate your advice, and reading the benefits, I know I definitely need to give it a try.

I have tried going to the gym and do yoga classes but I didn't feel that it was for me. Maybe it was too advanced, I just didn't like it.

Love how you got your boys involved! Interesting that they are teaching it in gym class now - I think that's great! I enjoy yoga from time to time but have slowed down doing it since having kids.

Yoga is amazing! I recently discovered how beneficial it is to my fitness goals. Last year my goal was to get my back bend (wheel pose) and I got it! This year I want to get a handstand!

I hated yoga the first couple times I did it - I made the mistake of being in a class way to advanced with moves that I just couldn't get into with my lack of flexibility. Now I do some moves on my own, beginner moves, and I feel a good difference.

I can't take yoga seriously. I tend to just get the giggles. I just jog now, but I know tons of my friends like yoga.

I have to admit it has been a long time since I did yoga, I think if I was to do it again I would like to do it from home for sure. Yoga seems to have so many benefits as well.

Yoga before bed? That makes complete sense! I hadnt heard of it before but thinking of it, yoga would be perfect as quiet time with the kids before they go to bed too.

I think it's great that you are teaching your kids how to cook. They will be grateful once they start living on they own. Like you said cooking is a very important skill.

Hi, I've never tried yoga before. Recently I've come across Ashtanga Yoga and having read about the procedure, I wish to explore it and help myself connect with my body my mind and my surroundings. I am a working professional and I wish to do yoga in my home.

Can you guide me whether Ashtanga yoga is the right way to start with? Or if there is something else to explore before first? I'm deeply looking for guidance.
