Learning About My Ancestry With Nebula Genomics DNA

What do you want to learn from DNA genetic testing?

Sponsored post with Nebula Genomics DNA

Have you always wondered about your ancestry? Do you have questions about your race and where your relatives came from? The United States is a huge melting pot and composed of so many different races. So many races, that people wonder what country their ancestors came from.

I am sure that you have heard the stories from your parents or grandparents of how your distant relatives arrived in America and from what countries they came from. For me, when I was younger, I remember hearing about my great-grandma, on my mom's side of the family, who was from Germany, and how my great-grandpa was from England. Then on Saint Patrick Day, my mom would say that I had a pinch of Irish in me. So when people asked me about my race, I would say that I was half German, half English, and a pinch of Irish.

Do you really know your ancestry?

Then with the technology of computers and the internet being available to most in the '90s, my mom started to do some research on our relatives and where they came from. I know that I am dating myself here as I remember the AOL CDS that came in the mail. I think it was in 1995, that I received one of the advertisements inviting me to explore the worldwide web. I did not even own a computer back then. It was in the year 1997 that we bought our first computer and discovered the internet.

My mom enjoyed looking up death certificates of her relatives and of my dad's relatives. She also explored ancestry sites to learn more about our family history. It was then that she discovered that we had more Irish in our blood.

I decided to learn more about my family history

Two years ago, my dad passed away. So my mom has had more time to talk on the phone. I have been enjoying our long phone calls and listening to my mom talk about her life as a kid. Through these conversations, I have been learning about my grandfather, who died when I was 2, and about my mom's relatives. So that has sparked an interest in knowing about what countries my relatives originated from.

So I decided to test my DNA. I have seen so many of my friends and family post online about their genetic testing and have always thought it was cool to learn about your family history. I never thought that I would be writing about getting my DNA tested. To be honest, I never thought that I would get my DNA test. I just never had a desire to know about my DNA or family history.

I decided to get my DNA tested so my mom could learn more about her family's ancestry. I know that family history and ancestry trees are something that excites my mom. My mom would never do a DNA test or genetic test, so I decided to help her with learning more about her family tree.

State-of-the-art Deep Genetic Ancestry

So I did my research on DNA testing, to find out the best place to get my DNA tested. I wanted something simple and affordable. I also wanted a DNA test that gave me the most information about my DNA. I discovered Nebula Genomics as a place that could test my DNA with an easy-to-use at-home DNA testing kit.

The most accurate DNA test in the world to examine your ancestry, health, diet, and physical activity

When I read that a DNA test from Nebula Genomics could examine not only my ancestry but also look at my Whole Genome Sequencing. This was a DNA test that I liked. I decided to get my DNA testing from Nebula Genomics.

What Is Whole Genome Sequencing?

Whole Genome Sequencing decodes 100% of your DNA and fully unlocks your genetic blueprints. Other DNA testing companies only decode less than 0.02% of DNA. It is your genetic blueprint that helps you discover things like where your ancestors lived so you can discover more about your ancestry. Knowing your full DNA can also help you discover genetic mutations and other things about your health. Maybe my knowing my DNA blueprint might help me continue to manage my asthma naturally.

A genetic test that decodes 100% of your DNA is called Whole Genome Sequencing. It includes the sequencing of all genes (coding regions), regulatory genomic regions, the Y chromosome (for males), and mitochondrial DNA. You can learn more about Whole Genome Sequencing (and genetics and genomics in general) on the websites of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health.

The Results of My DNA Testing

So I collected my DNA for the DNA test and sent it off to be tested a couple months ago. You can read more about my DNA experience HERE. I recently received the results of my DNA testing from Nebula Genomics and I was amazed at all the information about my DNA sample. It is truly amazing that a simple swipe of the tissue from the inside of my mouth can give me so much genetic information.

This genetic DNA test is like reading an encyclopedia of my genetic makeup. This DNA test gave me so much information. So much that I am still understanding all the genetic results from my DNA test. I did learn that I have ancestors from Germany, England, and Ireland. I also learned things like I have a high genetic predisposition to resilience to Alzheimer’s disease and a below-average genetic predisposition to Parkinson’s disease. Which is great news as I have seen the effects of these two diseases on my husband's parents.

The Nebula Library allowed me to continue learning about my genetic blueprints. This library helped me to understand so many things about my health. Things like asthma and high cholesterol are things that run in my gene pool. I also learned that my plant-based diet and eating fish is good for me based on my genes

I also got confirmation that I have the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap. My DNA testing also showed confirmed high cholesterol being in my genetics. The Nebula Library has 274 personalized DNA reports so I could learn about my genetic blueprints. I was glad that I decided to get my DNA testing from Nebula Genomics. I am just amazed at all the information that is available to me from getting a sample of my DNA.

Knowledge is power. Learn about your DNA makeup with Nebula Genomics.

Oh wow, I'd surely love learning about my ancestry as well. More than that, it can help us determine our possible health risks as we age.
