Moms Need Exercise So Stop Making Excuses!

Getting my running in at the park while the kids play.

This past week the boys were home from school all week. I love that I work from home so I can be there when my boys have no school. When the boys are home, I cut back on my work schedule as I find it impossible to write with a bunch of noisy boys. I just can't concentrate on my work with the boys home. I did get some work stuff done as I allowed my boys to play on the computer for an hour. I may do less work when the boys have no school but the one thing I will not compromise on is my running. Running keeps me in shape and happy. Running is the way that I get my exercise and exercise is a top priority for my health just like eating right. If one wants to be healthy, it is important to get exercise 3-5 times a week.

This mom was not going to make excuses about I can't exercise because I have kids. I want my boys to know the importance of exercise so I make sure to set the example by working out even when they are home from school. So we went to the park. I like that our park has a walking path that goes around the whole park. I laced up my new Mizuno Wave Rider 21 running shoes and ran laps around the park while the boys played. I find that listening to music helps me run my laps better. I also use my running time to clear my head and plan my writing.

While I am running, the boys are also getting their exercise it, they just don't realize it as they are having fun climbing trees and swinging on swings. Sometimes the boys even run a lap or two with me. Sometimes I even climb and swing with them.

When I get new running shoes, I find that doing an easy run at the park helps break them in. My old running shoes needed to be replaced so I replaced them with another pair of Mizuno Wave Riders. This time I decided to try the WAVE RIDER 21. The 21 represents the Wave Rider's 21st birthday! I thought it was cool that this style of shoe has been around for 21 years. I have been wearing Mizuno running shoes for about two years and they are my go-to shoes for running. I just love how these shoes conform to my feet. I also like how light they are. I just hate running in heavy shoes. Buying new shoes is easy for me as I know Mizuno will fit my feet the way I want them to. I used to think that having high arches meant having to wear special shoes or special inserts but once I tried this neutral running shoe, I never buy any other running shoe.

I get that running may not be for you but there are many other ways that you can exercise with kids. So don't let kids be your excuse for why you do not exercise. Need some inspiration for ways to exercise when you have kids? Check out some other ways this mom gets her much-needed exercise time in. Many of the exercises you can do with younger kids/babies.

Yes, there are times that I don't feel like running/exercising but I always feel so much better afterward. I also like the way running keeps my body healthy. This healthy body can then keep up with my active boys. Now stop making excuses for not exercising and lace up your exercise shoes. These Mizuno Wave Rider 21 shoes are great for new and experienced runners.

  1. I have been exercising pretty regularly and because of that my shoes are getting worn down. I think I will have to check these out. They look like they would be perfect for what I need.

  2. I totally agree moms need to exercise - and they need to have fun doing it. This is exactly why we own four horses. Sure it is great exercise horseback riding but those chores - I can't imagine my life without them. Excellent hard work and exercise.

  5. It can get so easy to find excuses to not workout. However, we only hurt ourselves when we do that.

  11. Running and Jogging are the best exercises and better than going to the gym. Its good that you prefer it more than anything else. I am sure its more fun to go with the boys and they will also start learning to make it a routine in their lives as well.

  13. I like the idea that your kids are going to be your excuse not to exercise, but rather your opportunity TO exercise. That makes a lot of sense, and I'm sure they appreciate the engagement!

    1. The other day, I was being lazy and the teen told me to get to the gym. He is a runner and he now inspires me to run more.

  14. Being a mother is not so easy so we don't really need to make excuse because our mother knows what's best for us.

  15. I admire the fact that you fit exercise into your life! I wish I had the time, oh wait I think I'm making excuses! Seriously the biggest excuse is the ugly weather, it's snowing buckets and miserably cold to get out. Think it's time to join a gym!

    1. I know the weather makes it hard. When the kids were younger, I would put on music and dance or go up and down the stairs.
