Sweet Zzz Weighted Blanket Review: How To Promote Sleep In Children

My youngest son is a restless sleeper. So we decided to try a weighted blanket to see if that could help with his sleep.

I received a weighted blanket from Sweet Zzz to facilitate this post.

My youngest son has never been a good sleeper from the day he was born. As a baby, he would wake up way too many times during the night and I don't think he slept through the night until he was three. When he did sleep, he would move around in his sleep. Sometimes he would even talk in his sleep. I remember the times when we went on vacation and the two youngest boys would share a bed while we stayed at a hotel. I felt sorry for the older one as my youngest son would move around so much that the older son would fall out of bed. It got to the point that the older one would rather sleep on the floor than share a bed with his younger brother. I don't blame him one bit as who likes to be pushed around in bed.

My younger son is simply a restless sleeper and still is at age 11. This boy frequently wakes me up in the middle of the night when he bumps into the wall that is by his bed. This wall is connected to my bedroom. I would move his bed away from the wall but since he sleeps in the loft, this is the only place the bed will fit. I can't move him to another bedroom as the ones with doors belong to his older brothers and since they are older they get priority on those bedrooms.

Sleep apnea was a cause of his sleep problems

I actually prefer my youngest son to sleep in the open loft so I can hear him when he sleeps before I go to bed. He has asthma and will sometimes start coughing. The funny thing is he can sleep through a coughing episode so I have to wake him up to use his inhaler. This child has been through a lot with sleep issues. When he was five, he would cough all night and make it hard for me to sleep. He would sleep through the coughing episodes as he was a deep sleeper. It wasn't until several doctor appointments later and a sleep study that he was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. The sleep apnea was caused by enlarged tonsils and adenoids. Thankfully having his tonsils and adenoids removed corrected things and his sleep apnea went away.

Thankfully after a long month of recovery from tonsil removal, it allowed both of us to get some much-needed sleep. My son at age 11 is still a restless sleeper and it can affect his behavior. I think that his restless sleep also causes him to wake up way too early in the morning. My son doesn't have trouble falling asleep, he just does not stay still when he sleeps. Several days a week, as I am dosing off to sleep I get aroused as he rolls into the wall that is near my bedroom and that makes a loud noise that startles me.

Sleep supplements don't help him sleep

I have tried giving my son natural sleep supplements like magnesium to help with his sleeping problems. Sleeping aids tend to make it hard for him to fall asleep. I have also tried these 12 sleeping tips to help my son sleep better but most of them don't help with his restless body that moves around while he sleeps. The sleep tips also don't help with his sleep talking and loud breathing.

A weighted blanket was the answer to my son's sleep problems

So I decided to try a weighted blanket to see if that would help my son stop moving so much in his sleep. When I told my youngest son about the idea of trying a weighted blanket, my oldest son just said to strap him in bed with some cargo straps. My oldest son even offered to get some from his truck. Note to self: do not let the older brother babysit the younger kids. My oldest son is the one who likes to rough house with the younger boys. My younger son had questions about what a weighted blanket was.

What is a weighted blanket?

A weighted blanket is a blanket that is a heavy blanket that feels heavier than a normal blanket and can feel like a big hug. I have heard positive things about weighted blankets and how they can help people sleep better, especially people with restlessness. So when a company asked me to review a weighted blanket, I thought that this might help my son sleep better. I know that in the winter, I sleep much better when I have my heavier plush comforter on me.

It seems that a plush thick blanket just feels so good for sleep. So my son agreed to give the weighted blanket a chance to see if it could improve his sleep. I was ready to see if this organic certified weighted blanket could also improve my sleep since my son would be sleeping better.

Adult weighted blankets may also be a great option for those who struggle with anxiety, insomnia, or other sleep issues. The added weight can provide a sense of security and calmness, aiding in relaxation and promoting better sleep.

A Weighted Blanket simulates the feeling of being hugged (scientifically known as Deep Touch Pressure) and its benefits are:

- Reduces restlessness and helps with anxiety.

- Helps with Insomnia and improves sleep quality.

- It helps to increase focus for ADHD and manage symptoms of Autism.

- Reduces Fibromyalgia Pain.

- It improves mood and gives a feeling of calmness.

- Reduces symptoms of PTSD and Panic Disorder.

- Acts as a drug-free pain killer.

Weighted blankets help with Anxiety, Stress, Insomnia, ADD, ADHD, Autism, and Restlessness.

How the weighted blanket felt the first time my son tried it

When the package arrived with the organic certified weighted blanket from Sweet Zzz, the first thing we noticed was how heavy it was when folded. My son placed the SweetZzz Weighted blanket around his body and said the weighted blanket felt like a big hug. My son also said the Sweet Zzz weighted blanket was soft and felt silky.

I read about the main benefits of the weighted blanket and I liked that it was safe for kids. I also liked that the soft weighted blanket was made from 100% organic bamboo and 100% organic cotton. I also liked that the blanket evenly distributed the glass bead fill in sewn sections so the beads would not shift and be all bunched up at the bottom of the blanket. This blanket also came a 100 Night Risk-Free with free return shipping if the blanket does not work out for my son. I am thinking if my son does not like the blanket, I will give the blanket a chance. If the blanket is a success and helps my child sleep better, then I am happy that it comes with a 5-year Warranty.

This weighted blanket has a patented 7-layer design, the glass beads make no noise and stay in one place.

How the weighted blanket felt the first night

My son said that the weighted blanket felt so soft and silky. I felt the weighted blanket and agreed that it was soft. My son liked how it made him feel so comfortable. The weight of the blanket felt like someone was giving him a hug. I noticed that he was more relaxed when I said goodnight to him.

I stay up later than my son so I typically can hear him move around while I am downstairs. The house is quiet after my son goes to bed and most nights, I hear my son move around and make noises in his sleep. The first night that my son used the Sweet Zzz Weighted Blanket, I noticed that he moved around less while he was sleeping. Instead of several hours of moving around in his sleep, my son was only restless for about 20 minutes. When I went to bed several hours later, I did not hear my son hit the wall while I slept.

The next morning I asked my son how he slept. My son actually slept in that morning and woke up when his alarm clock went off. My son said that the weighted blanket felt comfy and warm. I think the weight of the blanket helped my son keep his covers on while he slept. This Sweet Zzz Weighted Blanket now means that we are both going to start sleeping better.

The glass beads like the cover, are not-toxic hypoallergenic and odorless making for a very green and clean sleep experience

I must say that I learned the value of sleep, perhaps too late, wonderful when a good product can help with this.

I have two of the weighted blankets. As someone with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and some other health issues, these have helped with sleep.

My version of a weighted blanket was an old heavy army blanket between to soft nice blankets. It worked well at the time, but I like yours much better!

I will get this for my husband. Has trouble sleeping because of his chronic pain. A weighted blanket is not that popular in a tropical country, but if this will help my husband get a restful sleep, I am all for it. I will just have to adjust the thermostat on the air conditioner.

I love my weighted blanket! The only issue is that it's 11kg and I can barely life my cat who's 4!

Never thought weighted blankets could do all these amazing things, I have always thought that they are too heavy and perhaps uncomfortable. Thanks for the review, glad your son is sleeping better 😊

I can see myself quickly falling asleep in that. A weighted blanket is all we need to make our rest times way better. This is a pretty good suggestion.
