Dairy Free Protein Chocolate Donuts with Superfood Glaze

These donuts are a healthy alternative to store bought donuts

I do love a donut once in a while as they do taste so good. The problem is they tend to be fried in oil, making them a not so healthy treat. The other problem is they contain dairy, oh the joys of a dairy allergy! So since I like being able to breathe, (my dairy allergy causes my asthma to flare up), and avoid all that fat, I decided to try making donuts at home. I just bought a donut pan and had to try making donuts again. I made them last year without a donut pan and they resembled a mini cupcake. While my other donut recipe was delicious, it had pumpkin in it and was not vegan. While the pumpkin gave the donuts a good taste, my family knew it was in there and some members would not eat them. I also wanted to make the donuts a bit healthier as my other recipe had more oil and 3 eggs in it. So while I was on the quest to make some healthier and delicious donuts, I decided to use a different protein powder in this recipe. I discovered a vegan superfood protein powder , that has digestive enzymes, MTC oil, and a fruit & veggie antioxidant blend in it, at my last conference. I was excited that this protein powder had veggies in it as that makes getting my daily greens in super easy. This Superfood protein has a delicious chocolate taste so I knew that it would give my donuts a great chocolate taste.

This vegan protein is also great in chocolate pancakes

Use a chia egg to make vegan donuts

Is it a donut if it has no hole?

If you do not have a donut pan, you can still make these delicious treats. Just use a mini cupcake pan. If you want them to look like donuts then you really need to get a donut pan. I am glad that I bought a donut pan as I really like the donut shape. This pan makes awesome low-fat donuts! I always use a pastry bag to fill the donut pan with the batter. If you do not have a pastry bag, then a zip lock bag comes in handy. Just fill the bag up and snip off a small corner on the bottom.

To frost or not frost

Donuts are delicious without frosting but I wanted mine with frosting and since my frosting uses that amazing superfood protein all is good. Now sprinkles are a whole different story. I say treat yourself to some sprinkles as the donut has plenty of nutrition in it to counteract the sugar. I used a chocolate glaze for these delicious donut treats but you could use other flavors of glaze. I decided to play around with different color glazes and made a pretty pink glaze with MacroLife Miracle Reds Superfood powder. This nutritious powder is loaded with red and purple fruits so it gave the glaze a nice fruity taste. If you really want to be adventurous, then you could make a green frosting with the Macro Greens. The Macro Greens gave the icing a delicious taste and a pretty color. I love the power of green in my Dairy-Free Lean Green Pineapple Smoothie when it comes to getting my daily greens. This green drink is so creamy & smooth and has no green chunks in it. The Macro Greens superfood powder contains 5+ servings of fruits and vegetables so there is no need to add any kale or spinach, and it gives me awesome energy! I don't know about how you make a green smoothie but I have found that kale never gets smooth enough in a smoothie and it always clogs up my straw.

                                        The delicious power of green!

I love the color of these donuts!

I never realised that you can bake donuts. In fact, I never knew that there was such a thing as healthy donuts that is diary free. It is such an interesting concept for me.

Not a big fan of doughnut as the last one I ate was very oily. This one looks so much better. Should buy a doughnut tray and try them out.
