Could I survive five days of fasting? I love eating food so I knew it was going to be tough but I had to do this for my readers and for my body.
I am not one who likes to go on a diet ever! I love food ~ creating healthy recipes ~ eating delicious plant-based food ~ eating the occasional fish ~ and of course chocolate! I have to eat breakfast daily or my stomach growls. I am a snacker and I tend to graze all day. I don't like missing meals and have to have a snack before bed or I can't fall asleep. So don't mess with my food as I might get cranky!
So you may be wondering why I am choosing to go on a fast, especially when I don't need to change my body size and I feel that my body is healthy. I am a body-positive person. I agree that we need to stop body-shaming and tell people to stay far away from that scale. I also tell people don't let a number define you. I am all about putting the focus on a healthy body with exercise and healthy food.
I also know that many of my readers are needing some help in changing the way that they do things with the health of their bodies and they are trying things like fasting. I have seen many friends be successful with intermediate fasting and keto in changing their old unhealthy body habits. So I have nothing against the short-term use of eating programs if it is helping you make new lifestyle choices with the health of your body. So I wanted to experience a 5-day fasting program to share my experience. I also was curious about the benefits of the program to see if it could help me with aging and lean muscle building.
I know that changing habits to gain health is a hard thing to do. I have been through many of the same struggles that you have been through. I like to experience different food plans so I am better able to help people. So doing this fast may benefit me in understanding fasting and it could also be good for my body to do a simple detoxing.

Choosing the best time to do a 5 day fast
There really isn't a good time to do a fast. So I had to first get my mind prepared for this fasting thing. That took me a couple days as I was not ready to give up eating my favorite foods. I also had to select 5 days when I would not have any social events that involved food. I decided to do my fasting program Monday - Friday. My thought process was I could stay upstairs in my office/bedroom and away from the kitchen. I would also be busy with work so it would help me not think about food.
So the night before my ProLon Fasting Mimicking Diet, I gathered everything that I needed for this fast. I brought the kit upstairs to my beach-themed home office. I also grabbed a bowl, spoon, and plenty of water. I was glad that I had a portable cooking pot to heat up the water for my soup and tea. That way I had no reason to go downstairs near the kitchen. I also instructed my family to keep the kitchen clean by loading the dishwasher and wiping the counters.
Day One of the ProLon Fast
I was not looking forward to starting my fasting program but I gave myself a pep talk. The first box of meals had three L-bars, 2 packets of soup, crackers, olives, tea, and some supplements. I thought to myself this is the amount of food that I eat for breakfast and a snack. I told myself that this fast would be good for my body and that it was only going to last 5 days.
I decided to begin my day with a short workout. I am not sure if exercise is recommended during a fast but I needed my time on my elliptical for my well-being. My morning fitness time helps me wake up and gets my mind ready for the day. So I did a lighter workout since my calorie intake was going to be less. After I did my exercise, I drank some water and ate my first meal of an L-bar and some hot tea. I was glad that I was able to chew some food and the L-bar tasted quite good.
I have not had soup in a while so my lunch of soup and crackers was enjoyable. I just wished that it had more bulk to it, like pieces of veggies in it. I am not going to lie, I was hungry. So I drank plenty of water between meals to quiet my stomach. I also told myself that I could not give up until I ate all the food that was in the day #1 box. I was glad that I had plenty of work to do that day to keep my mind off of food. I was also happy to see that all the items of fasting food were plant-based, so I did not have to worry about my dairy allergy.
I gave in to hunger pains
I did quite well with the fast but at 10 PM, the hunger pains became intense. All I could think about was eating. I knew that I would not be able to sleep with my hungry stomach. I tried for an hour to ignore my growling stomach but it would not settle. So at 11 PM, I gave in to my food cravings and ate a couple of wheat crackers and spicy red pepper hummus. Then I was able to fall asleep.

Day Two of the ProLon Fast
I woke up and I was not hungry, thanks to my late-night cheat snack. I decided to start again with the fast and decided to not eat until 11 AM. I went on a walk and had plenty of energy. Then I came home and drank some water, made with L-Drink. I was able to ignore my hunger until 10:30 AM.
I was thankful that this fasting plan came with a schedule of when I could eat the different food items. That way I was able to pace myself on eating. If I had it my way, I would eat everything all in one meal. The plan also allowed me to switch up the order of the food, as long as I only consumed the items from the same box. So I could only eat box number two food items for today.
This day had a new item in it called the L-Drink. This drink was based on one's weight, so I just mixed up the amount in my water bottle that was based on my weight. Speaking of weight, I did weigh myself before I started the ProLon program. That way I could see if this fast helped me lose weight or fat. Day Three of the ProLon Fast
This day the hunger really set in around breakfast time. Then I noticed that my boxes contained less food. So I focused on drinking plenty of tea. I also notice that I had brain fog and it was hard to focus on work. So that is the reason that Prolon recommends no driving during this time. I could not take the hunger pains and my head started to hurt. So I ate the package of kale crackers before lunch. I did also weigh myself and noticed that I lost 2 pounds.
Day Four of the ProLon Fast
I did not make it to the 4th day as my body could not take this fasting. My head was hurting and I could not even concentrate due to the brain fog. I was starving and I had to go back to eating more food. I broke the fast in the afternoon on day three. I may have not received the full benefits of the fast but I feel that even 2 and a half days gave me a recharge. I broke the fast with a healthy mindset to choose to eat better foods for my body. I was happy with my 2-pound weight loss.
My overall opinion of The ProLon 5 Day Fast
I am not in favor of diets that restrict your food and calorie counts below a healthy number, especially long term. When one feels deprived of food and is hungry, they tend to overeat later in the day. Also, restrictive diets do not change eating habits for long term, and many people go back to unhealthy food once the diet is done. I am pro in substituting good food for the unhealthy food in your meals. For example swap out whole-grain crackers for chips or water for soda. One of the best ways to lose weight is to add more fiber foods like fruits, veggies, and whole grains into your meals. These foods will fill you up faster so you will eat less and they give your body nutrition.
The ProLon diet is not long term which is good and it can help you with food cravings. The website says that people will large amounts of weight to lose will benefit most from this program. So for some, it might help you get your body and mind in the right direction for healthy eating. Five days of fasting was hard for me to do and I wished that it was only a one-day fast. I liked that I was able to eat food with this fasting plan as that made things easier. I think to make this easier, I would combine this fast with a spa vacation. So I would also give my body some pampering and rest. Restricting my food intake made it hard for me to concentrate so not having to do any work during this time would have made things easier.
I was proud of myself for doing three days of the fasting program. These three days still had benefits to my body and gave my body a restart.

This is interesting. I've heard of intermittent fasting and fasting for a day, but I haven't heard of fasting for a week. I'll have to look into Prolon.
I have never even thought i could last one day let alone five. If it is healthy it is something I might consider some day.
I couldn't do it. I like to eat wayy too much and like 3 hours in I'd be a total witch. But I can see how this would work for people with discipline.
Intermittent fasting has variations. I have worked out what works for my body.
I need to try this. I been wanting to fast again and I haven't found another method good enough for me. This seem fitting also. I'll check it out deeper. Thanks for sharing!

It's great that you got mentally prepared first. That's an important step. I do intermittent fasting and have done random bouts of fasting throughout my life. I always feel my best around those times.
Good for you! I don't think I could do this. I already do Intermitant Fasting and that's probably the most I can do. This program sounds good though.
5 days sounds really hard. But if this kit would be helpful,why not. Thanks for sharing your experience with this product.
This is not fasting. Not even close. Fasting is having only water with only ice in it, if anything, black coffee, if any. The hunger will pass quickly if you stick to this. If you're eating sugar and carbs in your daily routine, that makes starting to fast harder. Cut down on sugar and carbs before starting fasting to make it easier, but it's not entirely necessary. Again, though, this is not fasting. Fasting is free.
I like fasting sometimes. And if this kit would make it easier. I'll go for it.
I love your point of view. I think sometimes our body is too ful and needs a break, that's why I love fasting. I feel better after doing it!
It sounds like an interesting product. If it helps cut down fat around the waistline it might be something I'd try.
I never heard of this diet program before. It seems as though this is a hard programs to follow.
It was a program that mimicks fasting. I dont eat a lot of carbs and sugar. It was hard to not eat that much food and made me realize that I would have a tough time on a real fast.
Same here I get hangry.
