God’s story is unstoppable when it is in the heart language of a people group. JESUS: a Deaf Missions film, uses Deaf actors to bring the story of Jesus to life from a Deaf perspective for a Deaf audience.
Many thanks to Deaf Missions for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.
Imagine for a minute what it is like to be deaf and watching a movie in a movie theater. You watch the movie but have no clue what the actors are saying as most movies in theaters do not have closed captions. Some deaf people may be able to read lips but that may be an impossible thing to do when watching a movie. So most people who are deaf can not experience watching a movie in a movie theater.
If you don’t understand what’s being said on the screen, what’s the use of watching it?
Even watching a movie with closed captions can be hard for some. As you have to multi-task. You have to read the words at the bottom of the screen and focus on the movie at the same time. Most people, like myself, like to relax while watching a movie, and this is not very relaxing.
JESUS: a Deaf Missions film is a history-maker as this film about Jesus entirely in ASL.
Something exciting is happening in the movie business and the non-hearing folks can now enjoy a movie that is entirely in American Sign Language. The movie Jesus: a Deaf Missions Film even uses deaf actors along with a Deaf led production team!

About The Movie
For the first time in history, a Deaf audience will have the unique opportunity to experience the story of Jesus presented as a feature film entirely in American Sign Language. JESUS: a Deaf Missions film will take you on a journey with Jesus and his disciples. Witness His miracles, His transformative power, and His challenges to the religious elite in a time of high tension under Roman rule in Judea. The Jews were anticipating a Messiah, but Jesus was not what they expected. What the religious leaders orchestrated to be Jesus’ end instead changed the world forever. Immerse yourself in Jesus’ love as He offers hope, forgiveness, and eternal life. Don’t miss this historic film—produced for Deaf by Deaf—with a cast fluent in American Sign Language. Deaf producer/director Joseph D. Josselyn (of Deaf Missions) and Deaf producer Michael Davis (of GUM Vision Studio) bring the movie to life for Deaf audiences. The film includes a soundtrack and English subtitles.

No I don't know anyone who is deaf.
I knew of a deaf lady in my town about 15 years ago. She kept to herself, and so our paths understandably never crossed, even in my tiny town of about 300 people, before she moved away. I personally don't know anyone who is deaf, but I am glad there exists movies with the deaf very much in mind.
